Henry stood on the balcony, the sun and a gentle breeze brushing against his face. His thoughts were as fleeting and uncertain as the distant clouds.

How he handled his relationship with the First Prince would directly affect the pace of his future plans.

’An attitude of disdain? That posture might show my confidence and strength, but it could also provoke the First Prince and lead to unnecessary conflict.’

Although his power was constantly growing, he was still "weak" compared to the entire empire.

He wasn’t ready for an all-out war with the empire, nor was he prepared to govern it. He needed more time to accumulate power.

Training new recruits with Overlord Training also took time.

’I have another idea,’ Henry thought. ’I could constantly kill enemies or perform other daily skill-based tasks to gain experience points and level up, and massively boost my four attribute points.’

’I wonder if I could take on an entire nation by myself if my Life Level reaches the third tier?’

Henry shook his head slightly, his thoughts returning to the First Prince.

’Treating him as an equal might maintain a certain degree of respect and distance, but it could also make the First Prince feel threatened, leading him to believe I harbor treacherous intentions.’

’Feigning loyalty? That might be the safest option, at least in the short term. By showing loyalty to the First Prince, I can use the time to build my strength.’

This strategy would require superb acting and careful planning, but if it succeeded, it would grant him the most precious resource of all—time.

Henry wasn’t lacking in anything but time. He had been in charge of his fief for too short a period—two and a half years at most.

He needed to maintain his independence during the war while also showing respect for the First Prince.

He would act as a powerful lord to avoid direct conflict.

’Deceiving the old emperor is still deceiving, and deceiving his eldest son is no different. You might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb. I’ve already fooled the old emperor, so what’s his son?’

Henry was lost in his thoughts until a gentle voice interrupted his contemplation.

Turning around, he saw a maid standing respectfully at the entrance to the balcony, carrying a tray with some toiletries on it.

"Lord Baron Henry, your breakfast is ready."

The maid’s voice broke his train of thought. She continued, "Also, Her Ladyship, the Countess, has awoken. She is currently washing up and will join you for the meal shortly."

Henry nodded, acknowledging her words.

When he saw the toiletries in the maid’s hands, he suddenly realized he hadn’t washed up yet and might still have some "traces" on his face.

He smiled slightly and said to the maid, "Please take me to wash up. Thank you."

The maid led Henry to the washroom. Henry washed himself quickly and thoroughly, rinsing away the smell of last night’s alcohol.

He neatened his appearance, looking refreshed and invigorated.

When he reappeared in the banquet hall, Ratifa was already there waiting for him.

She was wearing a simple yet elegant long dress, her hair was neatly combed, and she wore light makeup, looking both energetic and charming.

"Good morning, Henry," Ratifa greeted him with a smile.

He wasn’t sure if it was because they had drunk their fill last night, but Ratifa’s tone today was noticeably more relaxed and cheerful.

’And she didn’t use my title. Maybe that proves our relationship has gotten a little closer?’

"Good morning, Ratifa," Henry replied. His gaze lingered on her for a moment before shifting to the food on the long table.

Although this meal wasn’t as sumptuous as last night’s banquet, it was still utterly extravagant.

The table was laden with fresh fruit—diced watermelon, grapes, and strawberries—colorful and mouth-watering.

’Huh? Where did all this fruit come from in the chilly Northern Lands?’

’Is this what it’s like to be rich?’

Beside them were exquisite pastries, including some desserts made with honey and nuts, as well as some bread baked with flour and butter.

At the other end of the table were some piping hot dishes, including fried eggs, roasted sausages, and some herb-seasoned vegetables.

’Never mind commoners, even an ordinary Viscount wouldn’t dare to eat like this.’

Henry and Ratifa sat facing each other. Maids poured them fresh juice and then quietly retreated to the side.

Ratifa picked up a slice of bread, spread some butter and jam on it, and handed it to Henry.

"Try this. It’s a specialty bread from around here. The texture is very soft."

Henry looked at it, took the bread, and tried a bite. He nodded in approval. "It really is delicious. It seems your domain not only has a powerful army but also outstanding bakers."

"Hahaha, and since you’ve arrived, a powerful drinker as well."

The two chatted as they ate, the topic of conversation shifting easily from last night’s banquet to the day’s plans.

Henry mentioned Ratifa’s proposed training plan for the new recruits, while Ratifa shared some of her insights on managing her domain and her views on the political situation in the Northern Lands.

Henry and Ratifa were both probing each other, trying to fish for information they didn’t have.

After Henry and Ratifa finished their meal, they decided to head to the military camp together for an inspection.

Sunlight shone down on them, and the air was filled with the freshness of early morning.

The two rode in a carriage, proceeding slowly along the stone-paved road. Before long, they arrived at the temporary camp where Henry’s army was stationed.
