Chapter 485 - 339: Fighting (2)
When Gordon heard this was why the boss wanted to see him, the knot of anxiety in his chest loosened, and his tense shoulders finally relaxed.
But a moment later, he realized that for him, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
An opportunity to firmly establish himself in the Crown Territory.
More than that, it was a chance to become a capable right-hand man for the boss, just like the deeply trusted Yves, David, and Alvin.
At this thought, Gordon didn’t dare slack off for even a second and quickly collected his thoughts.
He mentally reviewed everything he had seen, heard, and felt while working on the plantation.
He tried his best to connect it all with his experiences knocking around the city, attempting to offer some valuable insights.
He might not have a head for business, but as someone who could pull off poaching, he had some worldly wisdom, at least.
After a moment of contemplation, he spoke slowly, his expression cautious.
"Boss, I think the plantation can definitely make a lot of money. Take these vegetables, for example. I’ve eaten vegetables from other places, but none of them are as delicious as the ones grown in the Crown Territory. The difference in taste is night and day."
He paused, glancing down at the lush green plantation below before continuing.
"Right now, the plantation is still expanding, and its scale is getting bigger and bigger. But the camp’s current population can’t possibly consume this much produce. A lot of the vegetables and strawberries rot in the fields before we can even pick them. It’s such a shame, all of it going to waste."
Feng Mountain already had a vague idea in mind, but he deliberately feigned a thoughtful expression. "So, how do you think we should solve this?"
"Sell them, of course," Gordon blurted out, a confident light flashing in his eyes. "Vegetables this outstanding would definitely make a fortune if we sold them in the city."
"The rich folks in the city are particular about their quality of life. They have extremely high standards for the taste and freshness of their ingredients. Our vegetables are exactly what they’re looking for."
"Oh?" A faint smile played on Feng Mountain’s lips as he beamed at Gordon. "Then how about I give this job to you?"
"You were caught poaching in the Crown Territory and are staying at the camp to work off the damages, but everyone has seen your performance during this time. If you can handle this job well, we’ll wipe the slate clean on that past incident."
"Really?"
Gordon’s eyes widened in an instant, his eyebrows shot up, and his face showed a mixture of shock and delight. He couldn’t believe his ears.
After a moment of astonishment, he nodded repeatedly, his tone filled with eagerness.
"I can give it a try."
As soon as he agreed, Gordon began to privately mull over his potential customer base.
He recalled that back in his poaching days, he did have a number of regular clients.
Those tycoons were willing to pay high prices for animal pelts, so they naturally had deep pockets and immense purchasing power.
If he contacted them and offered to sell them the high-quality vegetables from the Crown Territory, there probably wouldn’t be much resistance. They might even give him extra business out of consideration for their past dealings.
Seeing Gordon’s confidence, Feng Mountain decided to give him the opportunity.
After all, the camp was at a critical stage of development. There was only a limited number of capable and reliable men available, and everyone was already swamped with their own tasks.
As for the remaining options, he couldn’t very well have Jenny lead a group of women out to do the public-facing, grueling legwork.
"Then it’s settled. Go to Jenny later and get an advance of 100,000 US dollars as start-up capital for selling the vegetables," Feng Mountain instructed with a serious expression.
"Yes, thank you, Boss!" Gordon was overjoyed. A glint of ambition shone in his eyes.
Having settled the next step for the plantation’s development, Feng Mountain called for Xiaohua and the other two to get ready to leave.
Before long, Xiaohua and the other two came over to join them. Hu Zi was carrying a wicker basket filled to the brim with strawberries, their color vibrant and luscious, exuding a tempting fruity aroma.
"Are you going to be able to eat all that? If you want more, we can come back and pick them anytime," Feng Mountain teased with a smile.
"I told him it was enough, but Daniel insisted on picking more. He even kept muttering that the basket was too small," Hua Weixiao pouted, feigning annoyance. But her expression held not a trace of embarrassment, only the smug delight of getting a good haul.
"Alright, let’s go!" Feng Mountain looked at Xiaohua’s adorable act, a doting expression appearing on his face involuntarily.
Then, accompanied by Gordon, the group walked out of the plantation at a leisurely pace.
When they reached the bridge, Feng Mountain subconsciously looked back. The vast plantation stretched out before him, completely unobstructed. Anyone could come and go as they pleased without any hindrance.
Feng Mountain frowned slightly. ’This really isn’t ideal; it could easily lead to chaos in management.’ He turned to Gordon.
"When you have a moment, install a fence around the plantation. As for materials, just tell Yves. He’ll know what to do."
"That’s great! I’ve been wanting to install a fence for a while now." A happy smile instantly blossomed on Gordon’s face when he heard this.
A fence would not only stop uninvited guests from trespassing but also make daily work on the plantation feel more secure.
After leaving the plantation, just as they were walking back into the camp, they saw Fiona running toward them, stumbling along with a panicked look on her face.
She was shouting at the top of her lungs as she ran.
"Uncle, it’s terrible! Tyson and Cigar are fighting by the river! You have to come quickly!"
’What?’
’Tyson and Cigar are fighting?’
Feng Mountain’s brow twitched. Without a second thought, he took off like a shot, sprinting at full speed toward the outskirts of the camp.
By the time a frantic Feng Mountain arrived, a large crowd had already gathered, standing three layers deep to watch the spectacle.
From the center of the crowd came an intermingling of tiger roars and horse neighs, mixed with Loki’s noisy squawking as he continuously fanned the flames.
"Ms. Cola, beat up Ashes!"
"Ashes, you gotta be a man! Kick Tyson!"
"Tyson, Ashes is bullying Ms. Cola! Don’t be scared, I’ve got your back!"
Feng Mountain’s face was as dark as storm clouds gathering before a tempest. Without a word, he pushed through the crowd and squeezed his way to the front.
After finally muscling his way to the front, he saw the Tiger Pack and the horse herd facing off menacingly by the river.
The tigers’ fur was bristling as they let out low growls, crouched on the grass in a ready-to-attack posture. The horses, meanwhile, pawed at the ground with their front hooves, snorting heavily as their manes flew in the wind, their eyes filled with fury.
A huge battle seemed imminent.
Meanwhile, Coca-Cola was crouched on Tyson’s broad back, one paw pressed firmly on his head.
Tyson seemed to be restrained by this paw; the moment Coca-Cola let go, he would charge forward without hesitation.
"What’s going on?"
Feng Mountain strode quickly between the two tense groups of animals. His gaze first fell on the Tiger Pack, and he instantly noticed their claws were out, glinting coldly in the light.
Even though these tigers had always been raised in captivity, their fundamental nature was hard to change. Once their innate wildness was provoked, it was no laughing matter.
If they really started fighting the horse herd, given the horses’ numbers and charging power, Ashes’s side would definitely be at a disadvantage.
Seeing his master appear, the once-menacing Ashes seemed to find his pillar of support. He immediately grew docile and trotted over, burying his head in Feng Mountain’s arms with an aggrieved look and letting out whimpering sounds, as if pleading his case.
Seeing this, the rest of the Tiger Pack also dropped their aggressive stances. Their arched backs gradually straightened, and they stood up, returning to a relatively calm state.
Tyson also looked as if he had been greatly wronged, his head hanging low as he stared pitifully at Feng Mountain.
When Loki saw his dad emerge from the crowd, he acted like a clever little imp. With a WHOOSH, he dropped from the air onto Feng Mountain’s shoulder, affectionately rubbing his head against Feng Mountain’s cheek and cooing,
"Dad, they wanted to fight, but Loki didn’t let them."
’You little shit.’
’You call that not letting them fight?’
’I could hear you fanning the flames from a mile away.’
However, Feng Mountain didn’t have time to deal with the little bastard Loki right now.
He crouched down and called Tyson over, his gaze gentle yet tinged with seriousness.
"What really happened? Why were you fighting?"
