Chapter 498 - 346: The Will
In fact, this all started when Frank first mentioned it on the runway.
Combined with the letters and documents his grandfather had left behind, as well as that batch of old Russian guns in the cave...
All the signs pointed to the marriage contract being more than just an empty rumor.
Feng Mountain already felt in his heart that there was a seventy percent chance it was real.
But he felt a strong sense of repulsion deep down for this bizarre marriage contract that had fallen from the sky.
He was used to his free and easy life in the Crown Territory and didn’t want to be shackled by a piece of paper, much less be forced to accept a fiancée he had never met.
Natasha sat up straight, her enchanting and alluring curves on full display under the light. She elegantly produced a letter, placed it on the arm of the sofa, and lifted her chin slightly as she spoke softly.
"Uncle Frank, you may begin."
Frank stepped forward at her words and picked up the envelope. His gaze slowly swept across the room as he said with a serious expression...
"I will now announce another testamentary document from Mr. Feng Kailu. All uninvolved parties, please leave."
"I’m not an uninvolved party! I’m Brother Shan’s sister." Xiaohua’s eyes gleamed with a thirst for gossip. Afraid of missing any of the juicy details, she quickly stood up and loudly declared her status.
"That’s right, that’s right! We’re Brother Shan’s brothers," Hu Zi and Black Hide chimed in, not to be outdone, each staking their claim.
"I’m not leaving either. I’m Feng’s woman." Erica struggled out of Jenny’s arms, a fierce look in her eyes. She then pointed smugly at Jenny and declared loudly, "She’s Feng’s woman, too. We’ve slept with Feng. How about that?"
The moment she said it, a dead silence fell over the living room.
Everyone was stunned speechless by Erica’s audacious words, their eyes wide with disbelief.
Frank gave an awkward cough or two, tacitly accepting her statement.
Maria and Demi glanced at each other, then looked around the room.
Only then did they realize that they were the only two uninvolved parties in the house.
Even though they also wanted to sit down and listen, a sense of propriety compelled them to stand up. They walked out of the wooden cabin, glancing back reluctantly with every few steps.
As the wooden door creaked shut, the lively atmosphere inside was temporarily cut off from them.
Feng Mountain, his face dark, sat down on the sofa in exasperation. He glared at Frank and said irritably,
"Just read it!"
Frank shrugged, an "I’m innocent" expression on his face, as if to say that none of this had anything to do with him.
Then, he unfolded the somewhat old will in his hand, cleared his throat, and began to read.
"I, Feng Kailu, being near the end of my days, have considered the matters I leave behind. Of all things, the marriage contract of my grandson, Feng Mountain, weighs most heavily on my heart, and for this reason, I set down this testament."
"My grandson has been clever and quick-witted since childhood, and is of a pure and good nature. I grieve that his parents died young and lament that he was lost to the world. By heaven’s grace, the Feng Family was blessed, and I found my grandson before my own passing. Alas, my journey to the west is imminent, and my heart cannot bear it. Therefore, I have established this marriage contract."
As the contents of the will were revealed, the expressions of the listeners grew increasingly solemn.
"I have found a young woman for my grandson. Her name is Natasha Nikolaevna Romanova. This woman is gentle and virtuous, knowledgeable and reasonable. Her features, too, show she is a person of good fortune. When she stands beside my grandson, they appear as if a match made in heaven."
Hearing this, Natasha raised her chin slightly, a flash of smugness in her eyes, while Feng Mountain’s brows furrowed in reluctance.
"In this day and age, though new ways of thinking are emerging, the matter of marriage concerns the continuation of the family line and the well-being of future generations. I absolutely cannot stand idly by. These old bones of mine do not have many days left. My only wish is that after I close my eyes, I may see the two of them joined in joyous union."
Frank continued to read, his tone tinged with a hint of emotion.
"In my life, I have weathered many storms and seen the world’s joys and sorrows. I know well that a true heart is hard to find, and a good match is easily lost."
"My only wish is that my grandson and granddaughter-in-law will support one another for the rest of their lives, sharing in both sweetness and bitterness, and live a life of harmony and happiness."
"I hope that the descendants of our Feng Family will heed my words, carry on our family’s values, and strive forward in unity."
"Only then can I rest in peace."
"Testator, Feng Kailu."
Frank finished reading the will, which was filled with classical Chinese prose.
Feng Mountain, Xiaohua, and Hu Zi could barely make out the meaning. After all, it was their native language, which made it relatively easier to comprehend.
Jenny could only understand a small part, but she got the gist of it. She frowned slightly, a hint of worry in her eyes.
Only Erica was scratching her head, pacing around anxiously. When it came to Chinese, she was completely clueless.
She had listened to Frank drone on and on, but she couldn’t understand a single word.
"Any questions?"
After he finished reading, Frank raised his eyebrows slightly, his gaze sweeping over everyone’s faces.
He then handed the marriage contract to Feng Mountain.
Feng Mountain shook his head gently and reached out to take the will, his eyes quickly scanning the paper.
He then recalled the handwriting from the notes his grandfather had left at the bus camp and carefully compared the two in his mind.
The comparison made his heart sink.
It was definitely his grandfather’s handwriting. The familiar strokes and writing habits were unmistakable.
He slowly raised his head, his gaze falling upon the smiling Natasha.
At that moment, Natasha was sitting elegantly on the sofa, a confident smile on her lips and a hint of smugness in her eyes.
Feng Mountain looked at her, a wave of doubt rising in his mind.
’Could Grandpa’s eyes have been failing him?’
’Where did he get the idea that she was gentle and virtuous, knowledgeable and reasonable, and had a face that promised good fortune?’
’She was just brawling with Erica a moment ago. That aggressive demeanor had absolutely nothing to do with the "gentle and virtuous" woman described in the will.’
Xiaohua and the two boys quickly huddled around Feng Mountain, their heads close together, all of them peering at the will.
After reading it carefully, they all turned in unison to look back at Natasha, their faces twisting into extremely awkward smiles, as if they had just eaten bitter melon.
