Chapter 158: As It Was
Doctor Eleanor continued to answer up to twenty questions by the attendees.
Doctor Eleanor answered them without stuttering or a long pause. It showed how proficient she was in her own thesis.
Eventually, the Grand Medical Councilor stood up, ending the discussion at once.
He said, "The questioning period has concluded."
"Director Eleanor Vale of Chambers Hospital has submitted her findings, evidence, treatment methodology, and formal motions before this council."
He smiled at Doctor Eleanor and turned towards the attendees.
"For nearly a millenia, Sleeping Hollow Disease has remained among the most poorly understood disorders within our medical records."
"Countless physicians investigated its cause."
"Countless patients entered irreversible comas."
"No confirmed cure was ever recorded."
The councilor then turned towards Doctor Eleanor and said, "Today, Director Vale has presented evidence challenging several long-held assumptions within modern medicine."
"Of course, we must also thank the very individual who introduced this cure, Felix Hill."
The presentation display then showed Felix Hill standing and waving at them.
Doctor Henry briefed him earlier that the councilor would call him and he only had to wave at the camera.
Felix was a bit embarrassed but since he was not directly facing the attendees, he did not panic and calmly smile at them.
The attendees clapped in response, admiring the individual, who was not involved in medicine, but suddenly introduced the cure out of nowhere, claiming it came from his summoned.
Although it was not Felix Hill who directly provided the cure, if it was not for him, the cure wouldn’t have come to light.
The Grand Medical Councilor nodded in approval at Felix, saying, "He’s a young man with a bright future. His young sister will soon follow him."
He was aiming to have the attendees acknowledged Felix as an individual deeply. He believed that Felix deserved the benefits that would be thrown at him.
The presentation display then shut down, allowing the Grand Medical Councilor to continue with his message.
He said, "I will speak on behalf of the council."
He coughed.
"The council finds that the existence of structured meridian pathways has been demonstrated through sufficient observational evidence.
The council further finds that the relationship between meridian degradation and the progression of Sleeping Hollow Disease warrants official recognition and further investigation."
He swept his gaze and said, "Everyone will get to have the rights to vote for the motions."
He raised his index finger and said, "Motion one. Recognition of Meridian Science as an Approved Medical Discipline.
Those who approve, raise their hands."
Most of the attendees raised their hands and the Grand Medical Councilor nodded in approval.
He didn’t need to ask for those who disapprove and abstain.
He continued. "Motion two. Reclassification of Sleeping Hollow Disease as Spirit Meridian Withering Syndrome.
Those who approve, raise their hands."
This time, the Grand Medical Councilor was elated that everyone approved. In other words, even those who were narcissistic physicians were convinced.
"Motion three. Authorization of the Four-Beast Meridian Reforging Ritual for regulated clinical use.
Those who approve, raise their hands."
This time, there were some who did not raise their hands, either they were opposing or abstaining. Nevertheless, the majority voted for the approval of the third motion.
The Grand Medical Councilor was pleased. He raised his hands and said, "By the authority vested in this council by the National Beast Medical Council..."
He turned towards Doctor Eleanor and smiled.
"The submitted thesis entitled Meridian Integrity as the Foundation of Consciousness: Reclassification and Successful Reversal of Sleeping Hollow Disease is hereby accepted into the National Medical Archive.
Its findings shall be distributed to accredited hospitals, research institutions, and medical academies throughout the nation."
Doctor Eleanor beamed a smile and her body trembled in excitements. She whispered, "Thank you," to the Grand Medical Councilor who nodded in response.
He turned towards the attendees and said, "Effective immediately, the disease formerly designated as Sleeping Hollow Disease shall be entered into national medical records under the classification:
Spirit Meridian Withering Syndrome."
A wave of applause echoed in the symposium. Doctor Eleanor bowed in different directions four times, while her body was shaking.
It was successful! She thought, her mind was in a mess.
The Grand Medical Council also joined in their applause.
Once everything settled down, he has now decided to conclude the Annual National Medical Assembly.
"Medical progress is rarely born from certainty.
It emerges when physicians are willing to question what they believe they already understand.
Today, we have not witnessed the end of a debate.
We have witnessed the beginning of a new field of study.
Let this symposium be remembered not for the cure alone, but for the knowledge that made the cure possible."
He swept his gaze around and beamed a smile. "The ruling of the council is final. This session of the National Symposium of Beast Medicine is hereby concluded."
The ceremonial bell struck and the attendees rose with applause, instantly swallowing the thundering noise of the ceremonial bell.
It was definitely a historical presentation.
An incurable disease was no longer as it was.
Doctor Eleanor, the main character of the event, suddenly disappeared, returning to her preparation room.
They were dismayed, as they were hoping to establish deeper connection with her.
She might not be the one to discover the cure, but she was definitely the most proficient one. She studied it earlier than them, so she must have definitely formulated ideas on her expansion of her groundbreaking thesis.
Some of the physicians had the same idea as them, but they didn’t need to consult Doctor Eleanor with it.
They wanted to research and collaborate with more other efficient physicians. They believed that Doctor Eleanor was simply given a chance and what she had presented was the result of pure luck.
There were some like that, who shone in just a very brief moment, before their brightness dwindled after their luck had run out.
They believed it would be their turn soon and Doctor Eleanor would simply remain in the history of the medicine field...
