Chapter 171: Cliff Shadow Howlers
Ember’s breakthrough to 2nd Tier Rare rank was very significant for Felix, especially when they were facing tide of demonic creatures at the peak Commander rank, equaling to 5th Tier of Rare rank.
Although it was a minor rank, Ember’s energy core, which came from her Solarflare Heaven Phoenix’s bloodline expanded, and the most important was she gained memories from her bloodline.
Embers’ proficiency in controlling her flames increased.
Felix was pleased.
Felix could hear the discussion earlier in the Obsidian Wing, where a lot of beasts died from the flood of demonic creatures.
It was inevitable.
It was precisely why they were grateful for Sky Marshal Kaelor’s breakthrough.
Although they lost a beast, they still had remaining beasts for them to cultivate to reach higher rank.
If they lost all their beasts, they were as good as dead.
They were not like Felix, who also practiced the way of weapons.
He turned towards Krisha and saw Sparkle had a breakthrough, as well.
He was pleased.
Now, it was turn for them to hunt.
He first called Moon, who dealt with their stalker.
When the stalker’s companion, who radiated a strength comparable to Master Shen, he held back and had no choice but to let them stare at him with extreme killing intent.
When it abruptly disappeared, leaving behind the demonic creature that Moon dealt with, Felix was satisfied.
At the same time, he was alarmed.
There were indeed inhabitants that possessed the same intelligence as them.
Felix understood what they were. The demon race. The race that annihilated Flame Sovereign’s fellow humans.
Felix frowned. He wondered if they were able to withstand their attacks if they ever tried to ambush them.
Although Felix was aware, he did not return to the Obsidian Wing to inform Sky Marshal Kaelor.
Sky Marshal Kaelor’s senses were definitely stronger than him. He might already be aware, but he did not make a move to avoid startling them.
As Moon arrived on his right shoulder and Ember landed on his left shoulder, he walked towards Krisha.
Krisha was carrying PengPeng in her embrace as usual, while Sparkle ran around her feet, following her around.
Krisha asked, "Where do you prefer? Below the cliffs or the plains?"
"Below the cliffs." Felix sighed. "You fought against creatures from the plains, what do you think?"
"Nothing much." Krisha shrugged. "But the plains are covered with ash, very little visibility there. It’s also as if it’s already near the edge of this world.
Very peculiar."
Felix nodded. "Below the cliffs then."
They walked alongside each other and chatting casually, while their beasts surveyed their surroundings on their stead, especially Sparkle.
Sparkle had developed spirit perception.
His senses evolved beyond the physical world.
He could perceive disturbances within spiritual energy, detect concealed auras, identify invisible creatures, and distinguish genuine life from illusions or constructs.
As the bloodline matured, this perception continued to expand.
Hence, his senses were far better than Moon.
Eventually they neared the black cliffs.
They stood at its edge and glanced below.
Sparkle shuddered when he noticed countless demonic creatures sticking into the walls and unto the large terraces that interrupt the vertical cliffs.
Past that was already beyond their vision could peer through, as the abyssal energy was extremely dense that it turned into fogs.
They could only stare at the creatures on the cliff walls and the broken ledges.
Felix could not see through compared to Sparkle, but judging his reaction, it seemed whatever resided below were more terrifying than the flood of demonic creatures they faced.
Felix allowed Sparkle to handle his emotion, while he chatted with Krisha.
"It seems it will be difficult to fight below with swords."
Krisha nodded. "We have to force them to fight us on the plateau."
Felix smirked. "Ashen can handle it. But we need Sparkle’s cooperation."
Krisha turned towards Sparkle and lifted him up.
She comforted Sparkle for some time, understanding that Sparkle was still just an inexperienced child.
It took her a while to calm Sparkle down, even went as far as having to close his eyes to prevent his spirit perception from overwhelming him.
Felix wasn’t bored waiting, though. He also sensed Ember’s emotional turmoil feeling overwhelmed by the density of abyssal energy below the black cliffs.
When both of their beasts finally cooled down after their master’s comfort, they returned to their normal state.
Sparkle would then finally manage to open his eyes and observe the creatures on the cliff walls.
The cliff walls went as far as 800 meters deep.
Afterwards, Sparkle would provide information for his master.
Krisha said to Felix, "Sparkle saw five different creatures hanging into the cliff walls.
First were packed of lean shadow-cloaked predators. Long forelimbs armed with obsidian claws allowed them to hang on the cliffs like nothing.
The second resembled a bat and they were the most numerous organisms inhabiting Cliff Walls. However, they lived inside cave systems and only emerging from time to time.
The third was perhaps aerial predators, living in their enormous nests atop isolated obsidian pillars..."
Krisha continued to name the different creatures, until Krisha herself suggested that they should target the lean shadow-cloaked creatures, as she named it as "Cliff Shadow Howlers."
Felix agreed. Without hesitation, Felix raised Ashen and pointed at the lean shadow-cloaked predators.
The Cliff Shadow Howlers were numerous. They did not follow a leader, but they were like ants.
Once they sensed their foods, they would immediately run and tear their foods apart.
Felix pointed at one of the Cliff Shadow Howlers packs, seemingly lying low, waiting for their prey to appear.
Unfortunately, Felix, who used Ashen, the peak Unique rank weapon, wouldn’t allow them to peacefully wait.
Felix did not fully draw the bow. As soon as he pulled the string, a fiery arrow instantly materialized and suddenly bolted towards one of the Cliff Shadow Howlers in their pack.
The fiery arrow successfully landed, startling the entire pack.
When they glanced at their companion who was struck by the fiery arrow, they noticed its injuries were not severe.
Their abyssal eyes darted around until they noticed a distinct aura in the plateau, staring at them.
Discovering that the terrifying aura of a king was not with them, the entire pack immediately sprang into action and rushed towards them in hordes.
The other creatures were startled and hid on their caves.
The Cliff Shadow Howlers were after all, the undisputed terrestrial apex predators of the upper cliffs.
The number of Cliff Shadow Howlers alone in the pack consisted of half a hundred.
Seeing their numbers, Felix and Krisha glanced at each other and finally jogged backwards, wanting to fight in the ground.
Felix and Krisha scattered, while ordering their beasts to be ready.
Once they reached a certain place, they turned around and saw the Cliff Shadow Howlers rushing towards them from the cliffs.
Felix stored Ashen on his soul space and summon Rain instead.
Rain rejoiced, his aura exploded alongside Felix.
Felix glanced at Ember, who was frightened and summoned a compressed fireball.
The longer she compressed the fireball, the terrifying the density of its fire energy.
When there were only quite a distance left for the Cliff Shadow Howlers to reach them, Ember released the compressed fireball.
Upon impact, it was as terrifying as the fully drawn Ashen, astonishing Felix.
Felix did not forget to praise her, boosting her morale.
Ember also noticed how powerful her fireball was. It actually managed to disable the Cliff Shadow Howlers, affecting the other Cliff Shadow Howlers from the impact.
With Felix’s instruction, Ember now had an idea how to help her master.
She watched as the Cliff Shadow Howlers divided themselves into two—as the other rushed towards Krisha.
Her master raised Rain and fought against the group of Cliff Shadow Howlers with astonishing agility and lethality, astounding her.
But the Cliff Shadow Howlers were numerous. Seeing her senior sister attracting the other Cliff Shadow Howlers and took them out one after another, she followed her master’s instruction and didn’t hesitate to execute them.
She flapped her wings rapidly and maneuver around, boosting her flight to bait the Cliff Shadow Howlers to follow her while releasing heatwaves.
Felix, Moon, and Ember fought against more than a hundred of Cliff Shadow Howlers without getting wounded.
Felix was completely focus, with Rain’s coordination, he cut through the body of the Cliff Shadow Howlers like tofu.
He was unstoppable—every swing, no matter how thin the spaces to maneuver around, were gracefully executed, disabling the Cliff Shadow Howlers to stop him.
If the beast tamers witnessed how he fought, they would be dumbfounded.
Felix was fighting with his swords, with his life on the line.
Many times, the obsidian claws of the Cliff Shadow Howlers nearly wounded him, but his footwork was fluid and impactful.
In an instant, the Cliff Shadow Howlers, who thought they were the predators found themselves enraged for failing to catch even a strand of his hair.
Moon was the same. Although she did not attract a lot of their attention similar to Ember due to their size, her claws and agility surpassed even the Cliff Shadow Howlers.
With the addition of the chilling mist constantly released by Moon, the Cliff Shadow Howlers did not notice how slow they were because of it.
The Cliff Shadow Howlers were in disbelief. Moon’s aura was not as terrifying as them, but her speed and agileness, enhanced by her size, made it difficult to catch even her fur.
Ember was the same, albeit she did not attack at all and simply attract the Cliff Shadow Howlers while releasing heatwaves.
Although the heatwaves could barely affect the Cliff Shadow Howlers, their attention were attracted by the heatwaves, causing them to follow her blindly...
