In the dead of night, Dion scaled down the side of the apartment building, once more using a makeshift blood rope.
He bounced slightly, floor by floor, his attention on the ground.
’How is it that the only things that Mr. Jameson had clean left over are his work clothes?’ Dion grumbled internally.
The apartment that he had just left had its main living room light off. Neither Anastasia nor Adam were in there anymore, and he now knew exactly what he needed to do.
Dion’s feet finally landed on the ground and the blood rope unlatched itself from the top, swiftly withdrawing his blood into a single blood wrist band on his right.
He was wearing different clothes now, though even these ones were still tight on him.
He woe brown dress pants and a long-sleeved shirt, and is shoes remained black but they were now dress shoes.
His immense growth spurt had let left all the clothes and shoes that he should have had useless, so that was another thing on his list of necessities.
Feeling remarkably claustrophobic, Dion had to unbutton two of the highest ones, leaving him looking rather sleazy.
’For now, I should focus on getting what I need to, and finding Sue before I focus on increasing my dimensions. By daytime, things might become harder to find as more people form survivor groups for scavenging.’
With that thought, Dion began on his way, hurrying through the alleyways between the apartment buildings.
The West District, where he currently was, is where the people of Lullin largely lived.
Student accommodation here had been cheaper because of its distance from Golden Valley in the North District, and because of its distance from there, the majority of people who lived in this district were everyday people, with the student body being more concentrated towards the North.
Top-achieving students like him had been given the freedom to choose wherever amongst the college’s associated lodgings that they wanted to live, and he had chosen here for the purpose of saving some of that allowance for his own needs.
Thus, Dion travelled at a careful pace away from the apartment, essentially inching his way down. He had recovered his mana, but especially now, he could not afford to waste it.
"Seriously..."
Dion now stood embraced within one of the alleyways.
He was facing the nearest gas station, and likely the one that Norman’s group had intended on coming to plunder.
And just as he had feared, people had already ransacked the place, and worse off, there wasn’t a car in there.
While at the same time, all of the cars that were on the street were either toppled over and crashed in one way or the other, or there was smoke wafting off of them, and worse off, there were some that had exploded, with the flames still illuminating the area along with the moonlight.
’I have to find another one.’
With that thought, Dion hurried.
There were only two other gas stations that he knew of in the area.
Otherwise, he would have to just go along a different way, and directly headed for the East District.
And much to his dismay, the first one that he got to had been looted as well.
’What the hell happened here?’ He wondered at the sight of the gas station that was currently enflamed.
Dion had hidden himself behind a tall garbage bin within the alley of two other apartment buildings, peeking over its top.
There were zombies trudging through the flames as if they were nothing.
This whole time he had been using his senses to help him avoid as many zombies as he could, even despite the fact that he had noticed by now that they had some other way to sense things.
Then, suddenly, he ducked his head lower. One of the zombies had snapped its head directly in his direction and halted in its tracks.
His eyes had been slightly strained in their slit form as he started at the ground, keeping his much larger profile as small as possible.
’It’s either mana, vital essence, or soul essence that these things are able to sense. If not that... the wildest guess would be that they are able to sense awakened because of our capacity to interact with prana and aetherel.’
Dion gradually retreated from the garbage bin. still crouched with those thoughts running through him, and his body disappeared into the darkness, leaving his only the glow of his red eyes visible through it.
Eventually, he rushed out of a different alley. His long strides ate the ground, covering distance at a speed faster than humans should have normally been capable of.
His attention had been focused ahead of himself, to the flickering lights of the gas station.
There were three cars stuck in the gas station, and prowling amidst them, there were a dozen zombies.
The blood shifted over his arm, and he transformed it into a single arrow. Its new form whistled through the air, and then their heads. Blood sprayed through the air, as well as chunks of bone and brain matter.
{You have felled a Level 10 Destitute Zombie, harvesting its essences.}
{You have felled a Level 9 Destitute Zombie, harvesting its essences.}
{You have felled a Level 9 Destitute Zombie, harvesting its essences.}
The system messages ran through his head as he killed them, and still none of them crossed the threshold of level 10.
While his blood arrow killed those zombies, he didn’t stop at one of the cars immediately to try to fill its tank.
He already knew that the gas stations in this area were all self-service ones, and he hadn’t carried enough cash on him in his wallet to fill a tank for what would be a drive that could last up to any time up to hours considering the noise would attract both gnolls and zombies, and he had to navigate through the streets littered with corpses and toppled over cars.
