Lisko's American life
Chapter 181 186. Zhang Li's First Experience of Herding
After reading quietly for a while, Lisco saw David waving from the window.
"Hi, David, I almost forgot." Lisco remembered that today was the day the cows went out to graze, he had planned to be along this morning, and I could tell that David had been waiting for a while.
"It's all right, sir, it's not too late."
Lisco looked off to the side at Chang Li.
"Come on, let's see the grazing together, shall we?"
"Yes." Zhang Li was a girl with an adventurous bone in her body, and she was curious about anything she hadn't seen before.
Lisko saw that his outfit was fine, and he wasn't going to change his clothes.
Taking one side, Chang Li followed David's footsteps to the ranch barn, where all the cowboys were assembled.
"Sir." wasn't a neat greeting, and Lisko waved and signed over one side of the horse Jimmy was pulling, which he had just pulled out temporarily.
David didn't tag along, Lisko's job was to finish up instead of Hammer, and David and Hammer patrolled the skies in a helicopter.
David was arranging things over the intercom.
"Wes leads, Jimmy on the left, Hans on the right, Onegin on the flank, and Mr. Finishing up in the back,"
Lisko's side had already strapped on his gear, and his legs were strapped to the dacha.
Protecting the legs from sharp branches and tricky shrubs doesn't get them scratched either. And the northern cowboys not only used it to protect their legs from scratches, but also because of the climate it also served as insulation, protection from wind, rain and snow.
The old style of the dacha was a large piece of cowhide, which had been much better looking with modern improvements, and had become leggings, linked at the waist to a belt, with a pant leg length just below the knee, and hollowed out in the style of the triangular part of the trousers.
Lisko got on the horse first, tried the position, found no problem, took one side of the rope, and extended his hand to Zhang Li.
"Here, I'll take you."
Zhang Li hesitated, looking at the cowboys in full gear, but eventually intense curiosity won out.
Lisco took the fair hand and pushed, and Zhang Li came up with one foot in the stirrup.
"Vis, pick a better path."
Lisco arranged to walk ahead of Vis, as Zhang Li didn't have a dacha with him, and if he followed his usual route, he might cut his shin that was leaking out when he passed through the bushes.
"No problem, sir," Vis nodded that he understood.
A loud whistle sounded as Lithgow put his finger in his mouth and the cowboys turned their horses around and shot into formation as instructed.
"Ready," Wes gave the signal, and Jimmy on one side stood in front of the fence and pulled the rope.
As the fence opened, Jimmy bolted to his own horse at a furious gallop, and if he was slow, he might be trampled under the hooves of the swarming herd.
As Jimmy got on his own horse and into the formation, the herd came out in a frenzy with the head bull leading the way.
"Wow~" Zhang Li, who was sitting in front of Lisco, exclaimed as he looked at the incessant brown herd of cattle.
Every time Lisko saw the herd of cattle running wildly, he also felt that it was very spectacular, no wonder there was a fire bull formation during ancient battles.
An unlit herd running without fire already looked like a herd of cavalry running, and if a fire was lit, it would really smash everything in front of it.
Vis in front was already leading the head cattle into the ranch, and the cowboys in the back were beginning to get their bearings in case any of the cattle ran loose from the herd.
Lisko waited until all the cattle were out of the corral and sat on his horse looking inside the fence to make sure there were no more cows in the barn before he started driving his own horse.
"How many cows is this?"
Zhang Li looked at the group of crowds in front of him, like a moving mountain ridge.
"More than a thousand," Lisco's face was full of pride, remembering that last year, there were still hundreds of cows inside the ranch, and this year it was directly up to a thousand.
"A lot of money." Although Zhang Li did not know the exact price of a cow at the ranch, but according to the domestic price, this thousand cows was a lot of money.
"The quality of our ranch's beef is quite superior, and the rating is a bit higher, so the price will be a bit higher as well, and it is currently mainly supplied to large supermarkets and high-end restaurants."
While driving the horses to keep up with the speed of the cattle, Lisko introduced the ranch to Zhang Li.
"Aren't other people's ranches mixed cattle and sheep?" Chang Li was confused, she hadn't seen any sheep at the Lithgow ranch.
"I can't stand the smell of sheep so I don't breed them, if I want to eat one, I always catch one from the next pasture, next to our pasture is Rooster and Colt's pasture, we are hairy."
Speaking of Rooster and Colt, Lisco got the call yesterday that the two of them and Maggie would be visiting the castle today and casually sharing lunch together.
They hadn't been over for a visit since Lisco's castle was built and they had to talk with Lisco about Colt and Golly's wedding date, seeing as their bellies were getting bigger, it wasn't good for the world to drag on.
After passing through the woods, Wes took a half hour longer than usual today to lead the way around to the grazing area.
Lisko's purpose today was to show Zhang Li the process of ranch grazing, something that was new to her as a child growing up in China.
Estimating the time, the dressmaker from England had already arrived, and Lisko had no desire to wait for the cows to return with her.
After greeting David, Lisko turned his horse around and prepared to go back to the castle.
"Sit tight, we're going back to the run up." Lisco prompted Chang Li, hugging her tightly from behind her armpits and grabbing the reins.
"All right."
"Okay." Chang Li swallowed, straining for a reply.
Lisko shook the reins, the long ride and the horses beneath him understanding what he meant, and began to trot along the front.
"Whoops." As the horse's speed grew faster, Zhang Li felt the same comfort, and excitement as she did on the locomotive.
She was excited to see the target ahead of her getting closer and closer, and the wind was blowing against her face, disrupting the hair on the sides of her temples.
Lisko was happy too, Chang Li liked this life, it was good for him.
Making his way back to the ranch at a much faster pace than he'd gone, Lisco tied his horse to the side to graze and hugged Chang Li, who was still not over the excitement of the horse.
"How was it?"
Lisko fixed Chang Li's windblown hair, then touched her somewhat pert cheek.
"Love it." Zhang Li tried to calm down her rapid heartbeat.
"Then you'll have to learn how to ride a horse, and next time you'll be able to ride your own horse Mercedes." Lisko teased.
The good thing about being at the ranch was the endless supply of meat, and the random gallop of riding a horse.
