Lord of Perverted Ladies

Chapter 41: Relief

Sponsored

The drive back to the academy was quiet.

Rainwater still clung to the roads, reflecting the morning sun in long streaks of silver as the sedan rolled through the city. I rested my head against the window, watching familiar streets pass by one after another while my thoughts refused to settle.

The mansion was behind me.

The factory was behind me.

Neither of them felt finished.

Yuna had put the knife down, but that didn’t mean she was suddenly fine. Lila had apologized, but apologies couldn’t erase years of resentment. Everyone had left that lounge carrying something different from what they’d walked in with.

Some carried relief.

Some carried guilt.

Some carried hope.

I wasn’t sure what I was carrying.

The Fragment of Lust sat quietly inside me, almost dormant. It hadn’t whispered a single word since the confrontation ended, and honestly, I preferred it that way.

The academy gates came into view just before noon.

The driver pulled over near the main entrance before stepping out to open the rear door.

"We’ve arrived, Master Adrian."

"...Just Adrian is fine."

The older man smiled politely.

"I’ll remember that."

I thanked him before stepping onto the pavement. The sedan disappeared back into traffic a few moments later, leaving me standing in front of the academy with my backpack slung over one shoulder.

Everything looked normal.

Students crossed the courtyard carrying books, clubs were already recruiting near the central fountain, and someone from the baseball club was loudly trying to convince first-years to join.

It almost felt strange.

Less than twelve hours ago I’d been standing in front of a girl holding a knife.

Now someone was handing out flyers for the cultural festival.

Life had a weird sense of humor.

"...Adrian!"

I looked up.

Ryan came jogging across the courtyard with Ethan right behind him. Noah and Marcus followed at a much calmer pace while Daniel carried what looked like five different convenience store bags.

Ryan stopped in front of me, hands on his knees.

"There you are!"

"You disappeared yesterday."

Ethan crossed his arms.

"We went to your apartment."

"No answer."

"Then Ryan started saying you’d been kidnapped."

Ryan pointed at him.

"It was a valid theory."

"It wasn’t."

"It absolutely was."

Marcus sighed.

"You also said aliens."

"I was exploring possibilities."

Noah adjusted his glasses.

"We were about to file a missing person report."

I rubbed the back of my neck.

"...Sorry."

"My phone died."

Technically...

That wasn’t entirely a lie.

Ryan narrowed his eyes.

"You look tired."

"I am."

Daniel tilted his head.

"...Did you even sleep?"

"...A little."

"How little?"

"...Enough."

Ryan looked unconvinced.

"...That sounds like someone who definitely didn’t sleep."

Before anyone could question me further, the academy bell rang across the campus.

Students immediately began making their way toward the classroom buildings.

Marcus looked toward the nearest building.

"We should move."

"If we’re late again, Professor Haynes is going to make us clean the gym."

Ryan shuddered dramatically.

"I still have nightmares from last time."

"The floor wasn’t even dirty."

"That’s what made it worse."

We started walking together through the courtyard.

The conversation quickly shifted away from me, mostly because Ryan discovered a promotional poster for an upcoming horror movie taped to one of the notice boards.

He stopped walking immediately.

"Guys."

"You seeing this?"

Ethan leaned over.

"’The Last Passenger.’"

"Looks interesting."

Ryan shook his head.

"Forget interesting."

"Look at the rating."

Daniel whistled.

"Eighteen plus."

Marcus looked unimpressed.

"You judge movies by age ratings?"

"I absolutely do."

"They usually spend the budget somewhere."

Noah quietly studied the poster.

"It’s based on an urban legend."

Ryan immediately looked interested.

"Seriously?"

Noah nodded.

"The original story was about a train that never reaches its final station."

"If you board it..."

"You disappear."

Ryan grinned.

"...We’re watching it."

Marcus immediately answered.

"We’re not."

"We absolutely are."

"We’re not."

Daniel laughed.

"I’ll bring snacks."

Marcus looked betrayed.

"You switched sides too?"

"I switch sides whenever snacks are involved."

Ryan pointed triumphantly.

"See?"

"I’ve already got support."

The familiar back-and-forth continued all the way to the classroom building.

I found myself smiling without really thinking about it.

Compared to everything else that had happened recently...

Listening to five idiots argue over a horror movie felt strangely comforting.

We reached our classroom just before the second bell.

Most of the students were already inside.

As I walked through the doorway, dozens of conversations continued without anyone paying much attention to us.

Someone complained about homework.

Another group argued about a football match.

Near the windows, two students were comparing handheld game consoles.

Normal.

Completely normal.

I almost relaxed.

Almost.

A small blue window quietly appeared at the edge of my vision.

______

I frowned.

"...That’s unusually specific."

Another line appeared beneath it.

______

"...I don’t like the sound of that."

______

[Response]

Neither does the system.

______

The window vanished before I could ask anything else.

I slowly sat down at my desk.

Ryan immediately leaned over from the seat behind me.

"So..."

"You wanna watch that movie on Friday?"

I looked at him.

Then at the empty blue sky outside the classroom window.

Then back at Ryan.

"...Yeah."

"I think I’d like that."

Whatever the system meant by "forty-eight hours" could wait.

For now...

I just wanted one normal day with my friends.

Deep down, though, I already knew normal days didn’t last very long anymore.

Ryan grinned the moment I agreed. "Done. Friday after class. Daniel brings snacks, Ethan complains they’re unhealthy, Marcus pretends he doesn’t want to come, then shows up anyway, and Noah spends the whole movie pointing out plot holes." Marcus rolled his eyes. "I don’t pretend." Ryan immediately pointed at him. "See? He’s already doing it." Daniel laughed from the next row. "I’ll bring enough snacks for everyone this time." Ethan leaned back in his chair. "Just don’t buy the spicy chips again. Ryan almost died." Ryan clicked his tongue. "My mouth was on fire for ten minutes. That’s different."

The classroom gradually filled until almost every seat was occupied. Conversations overlapped from every corner of the room, creating the familiar morning noise that somehow made the academy feel alive. Someone near the windows was arguing about a new online game update, another group was discussing a football match from the weekend, and a few students in the back were trading comic books before the teacher arrived. I rested my chin on my hand and let myself sink into the ordinary atmosphere. After haunted factories, system missions, and a knife-wielding maid, listening to classmates argue over games felt almost therapeutic.

Just as I started believing today might actually stay normal, the classroom door slid open. Professor Haynes walked in carrying a stack of papers under one arm, his usual stern expression already making half the class sit up straight. Without saying a word, he placed the papers on his desk, adjusted his glasses, and slowly scanned the room. The chatter died almost instantly. Ryan leaned toward me just enough to whisper, "Why does he always look like he’s about to announce the end of the world?" I fought back a smile and quietly opened my notebook.

Professor Haynes picked up the attendance sheet, cleared his throat, and looked at the class. "Before we begin today’s lesson, I have an announcement. In three days, the academy will be holding its annual inter-club exhibition. Attendance is mandatory for every student, whether you’re in a club or not. Those without a club must choose one before the exhibition begins." Around the room, students immediately started whispering among themselves. I instinctively glanced toward Noah. His Mystery Research Club had only just been approved... and something told me this announcement was about to complicate my life again.
