Nicole didn’t answer. Her gaze turned a little flustered and helpless, and she quickly lowered her eyes to hide everything.

Nicole stared at the indifferent Jose Floyd, her expression pausing, a cold clarity in her eyes. "I heard your voice with my own ears on the phone with my brother! I also heard the gunshot with my own ears. By the time I got there, my brother was already dead! Jose Floyd, you’re telling me you didn’t kill my brother?"

"I said the investigation results will be out in a couple of days! Nicole, if I didn’t kill Wade, then you owe me a life! Don’t forget when you stabbed that knife into my chest back then! If it turns out Wade’s death has nothing to do with me, you remember this—you owe me that life!"

"If my brother wasn’t killed by you, Jose Floyd, I’ll pay you back with this life! I’ll return the debt I owe you from back then!"

Jose Floyd’s long fingers clamped around Nicole’s chin, his tone cool and flat. "If Wade wasn’t killed by me, then this life of yours belongs to me for the rest of this lifetime. Other than me, no one has the right to take it."
