Chapter 1342: Scheming for a Daughter-in-Law (Part 1)
"Nicole, eat more."
Nicole gave a faint smile and responded with a nod.
At that moment, Jose Floyd’s phone rang. Celine Sutton joked, "Jose has been extra busy lately. What’s he busy with? His phone keeps ringing during meals. Don’t wear yourself out too much."
Jose Floyd took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID, his eyes turned cold, and he pressed decline.
The phone rang again persistently, making Nicole, who was already feeling heavy-hearted, curious about what call Jose Floyd was so reluctant to answer, and she inadvertently glanced at his phone.
When she saw the text message was from ’Andrea Greenwood,’ her fingertips twitched slightly, and a peculiar look flickered in her eyes.
Without even looking, Jose Floyd intended to turn off the phone, but considering recent affairs, he only set it to silent mode and shoved it into his pocket.
Jose Floyd put down his bowl and chopsticks and went upstairs to deal with important matters.
Nicole caught sight of him going upstairs from the corner of her eye, feeling a deep sense of unease in her heart, and decided to get up and head upstairs.
"Nicole, what’s Jose been busy with lately, leaving early and returning late? And who just called him? He didn’t look too happy," Celine Sutton asked quietly.
Nicole pressed her lips together, remembering the message she saw earlier from the sender, and smiled lightly at Celine Sutton, replying, "His fiancée— maybe... the two of them had a fight. Godfather and godmother, take your time eating. I’m heading upstairs first." Nicole stood up, smiled at Stuart Floyd and Celine Sutton, "Godfather and godmother, I’m likely going back to City C next week. Thank you for taking care of me during these days."
Nicole went upstairs.
Celine Sutton put down the bowl and chopsticks, looked at her husband Stuart Floyd, and sighed quietly, "Do you think there’s something strange between Nicole and Jose? If Nicole goes back next week for her wedding... will there still be hope for Jose and her?"
Stuart Floyd’s gaze shifted to the second floor, "Celine, we really need to give them some opportunities within this week, or else Jose might truly miss his chance with Nicole. Jose has a fiancée, and Nicole has a fiancé. These two, sigh..."
"What should we do? Watching them like this makes my heart wrench, worried that they’ll miss each other for the rest of their lives."
Stuart Floyd was silent for a moment, then spoke quietly to Celine Sutton, "We do this..."
-
Nicole recalled the message from Andrea Greenwood she glimpsed at the table, her eyes slightly flickering, lying on the bed in her room, lost in thought.
She was deep in thought when the door was knocked.
"Come in."
Celine Sutton pushed the door open, filled with a burning anger, looking visibly upset.
"Godmother, what’s wrong so late at night?" Wasn’t she fine during dinner?
Nicole stood up, greeted Celine Sutton, and asked.
Celine Sutton’s face was solemn, her tone bursting with anger, "I kindly made him a midnight snack, and he said it didn’t taste good! Men spoil everything! I bore him a child, cared for him meticulously, and he still nitpicks. I’m furious!"
Nicole furrowed her brows slightly, looking at the furious Celine Sutton, trying to comfort, "Godmother, maybe godfather didn’t like today’s food, or perhaps he’s too full from dinner and didn’t want more. Don’t be angry; these are small matters."
"I don’t care! When Joshua Floyd returns, I’m leaving! I’ll take Joshua with me! Let him live alone! I’m really angry now!" Celine Sutton refused to be consoled.
"Godmother, don’t be impulsive. Your relationship with godfather has always been good. I’ll ask godfather to apologize to you tomorrow, okay? Calm down."
