Magi Craft Meister
45-26 Steer Arena Part 1
Former magician of the Kingdom of Cellular (Magicraftsman), Stearena, once exiled to the Empire of Shouro and later joined Alchemist Toa Eschenbach.
Now he lives mainly in the Eschenbach mansion and occasionally advances his favorite research in Penglai.
Saki, Toa's only daughter, also serves another. I never said anything about my father's marriage.
"How about you, there?
"Mm-hmm. I'm trying a lot with Saki's help."
Toa was now in a lot of trial and error trying to develop a blue dye.
"Purple gun-run juice only stains light colors."
It is a purple gun run juice (anthocyanin as a pigment) that changes into different colors by adjusting acidity to alkalinity, but was unsuitable for dyeing dark colors.
Saki was touring the wild mountains, collecting various grass flowers and bringing them home.
"This' Tuyuksa 'flower dyes a beautiful blue color, but it's not light resistant and fades quickly."
"Well, really?"
"This one is a fruit of flowers like 'Rabbit', but this is also not light resistant"
"You are.... Can't you use blue stones? Like Lapis."
Lapis lazuli, a stone that serves as a raw material for pigments called ultramarines. The mineral name is Blue Gold Stone (Razrite).
They called it 'Ultramarine' in the sense that it would be imported from across the ocean.
"That's a beautiful blue color, for sure, but it's a pigment. It's not for dyeing cloth."
The pigment is a pigment used in paint, paint, etc., and has an underlying color cover-up.
Dyes are used to dye fabrics and yarns, with weak concealment.
There is also a classification that dyes are soluble in liquids such as water, but pigments are not.
"It's hard."
Stearena sighed small.
"Magic dyes are used for expensive clothing and yarn, but they are generally expensive."
It exists on the island of Penglai in ten tonnes, but it should be difficult if this is flown into the market.
"I'm trying to find a cheap blue dye."
"Yeah, I get it."
"Dyes picked from natural flowers are prone to fade. I think it would be faster to improve this."
"Well, that's one way to do it."
And Steerina also makes her point.
"And then... synthesis, maybe?
Toa nodded.
"Mm-hmm. That's the pinnacle of the alchemist."
The chemistry of modern times, the primitive form of which can also be called alchemy.
"It's not a magic dye, make synthetic dyes. That's another goal."
Footsteps sounded there, and Saki turned up.
"Dad.... oh, you had Mr. Stearena too"
Saki offered the basket in his hand.
"Dad! I found it in Kaina Village and I think these nuts can be dyed blue!
Inside the basket was a glass of round fruit with blue on it.
"It sounds like in Kaina Village they say 'icego'. I'm too sinister to eat, but crushing this fruit produces blue-purple juice."
"Hmm. Looks like it's worth a try"
Toa quickly took the fruit into the breast bowl and tried to crush it. I do get blue-purple juice.
If filtered, it became a dark blue-purple liquid.
When I put it on a small brush and wrote it on wood paper, I could write quite dark colored letters.
"Hmm, looks like we could use it"
"The rest is light resistance, Dad."
"Hmmm.... but if you say greed, it's going to be a little brighter blue"
Saki came up with an idea for it.
"Why don't you try acidity or alkalinity?
"Um, sure."
So Toa took a small amount into another plate and diluted it with water. Because it doesn't have to be dark to see how acidity and alkalinity change color.
"Acid first"
As a nearby acid, try dripping vinegar. Then the blue and purple color water changed red.
"Uhm, you're just like purple gun runs"
Next, add the sergeant to the light colored water made on another plate.
"Oh, this looks good"
Then it changed from blue purple to bright blue.
"Sounds like the sergeant is working."
So far, Heavy Cao has been extracted from natural Heavy Cao Springs. The main region of origin is the northern part of the village of Kaina.
"How about some ash juice?
I also tried the cheaper ash juice than the sergeant and now it turns blue and green.
"Hmmm... looks like this is the same type of dye as purple gun runs again. Did I say 'Amen and Amen'?
Anthocyanin turns green to yellow in strong alkalis such that the pH exceeds 13, so it is also not impossible for the coloured water with the ash juice to turn green.
"And when you do, adjust the color with the sergeant to see if you can fix it..."
Since a fairly dark solution can be picked from the icego, it becomes practical, but the problem is light and weather resistance.
It's good to be stained, but because it's not practical to fade in a few weeks or get wet and colored by rain.
"Hey, is using magic to fix colors a bad way after all?
Steerina opened her mouth, watching her father and daughter experiment in silence until now.
"Magic?"
"Yeah. Engineering magic" hardening "or" toughening "is magic that eventually strengthens the bonding power of molecules to make them less fragile, right? The color fades, not because the dye turns into another substance, so to speak?
……
Toa and Saki tried to rebut Stearena's words.
"Hmm, sure, maybe the dye molecules will fade in color"
Saki also opens her mouth here.
"But Mr. Stearena, engineering magic" hardening "or" toughening "strengthens the bonding power between molecules, right? It doesn't make the molecule itself harder to break, does it?
"Yeah, that's right. So all you have to do is create new engineering magic. It's like making the molecule stronger."
It seems easy to say, but the Magic Engineer Magicraft Jazz doesn't have to know, and it is quite difficult for ordinary magicians (Magicraftsmen) to create new magic.
Nevertheless, the Steer Arena is not a 'normal' magician (Magicraftsman).
"We don't have to change the structure of the molecule itself, do we? The principle is the same as" hardening. "
That said, she began to think with all her heart.
"Hmmm... it's the atoms that make the molecules, so if we strengthen the bonding power between atoms... ah, but then it could turn into another substance..."
Toa and Saki decided to keep their mouths shut for a while to keep out of the way of such a steering arena.
"In short, you just have to wrap it up with free magic (ether) and immobilize it... immobilize it, huh? Let's try it. Doing so..."
Apparently the Steer Arena came up with something, salt to try... I hung the new engineering magic 'Stabilization (Stabilization)' on sodium chloride.
"What do you think?
Stabilization is a magic that increases molecular stability. A water-soluble substance will no longer dissolve in water, nor will it be difficult to degrade with ultraviolet light… should.
And the salt hung with "Stabilization" stopped dissolving in water.
"Success!
The Steer Arena was delighted with all the leaps up.
"Oh, this can be applied to other dyes!
It follows that dyes that are prone to fading have also come to the forefront of practical application.
Without magic, there was no way, but for one thing, there was a vision to make the 'blue' dye practical.
