Chapter 132
Dron looked around at his men.
He didn’t know what was going on, but he knew that they were outnumbered. Even if there wasn’t another alpha amongst the people that surrounded them, Dron knew there were too many people for his small group of soldiers to go through. It was going to be a problem if there was a fight to break out.
"You may know who I am, but I have no idea who you are or what is going on here. Is that beast under your control?" The older woman scoffed and then shrugged her shoulders.
"Under my control? It’s always about control with you Thraqens. Anadi isn’t under anyone’s control. She saw you chasing the children. She has a very strong maternal instinct."
Dron’s eyebrows bounced up to his hairline. That thing was a woman? He just couldn’t believe it.
"We weren’t chasing them." Dron spoke but then looked away. It’s true they weren’t chasing them, but he assumed following could be put into that category.
"Whatever it was that you were doing, it seemed as though you had ill intentions. She wasn’t just about to let you hurt them. She only stepped in so they could get away."
"We had no intentions of hurting those children. We only wanted to see where they came from."
The woman whistled again, and the rock monster pulled herself from the side of the rock, extended a hand, and helped the woman down from where she was standing high above.
Dron stood tall as the woman got down off the hand of Anadi and continued walking in his direction. She stopped right in front of Dron and looked up into his eyes.
"Wanted to see where they had come from because you didn’t think they could exist. Am I right?"
Dron didn’t want to give too much away, but there was no denying that. He was still in shock that there were so many people here.
"Correct."
The woman flipped her hand in the air as if she were dismissing the idea. "It’s never anything new. You lot think just because someone has told you that nothing else exists, that it’s the ultimate truth. As much as it pains me to tell you, cursed one, Thraqe is not the center of the universe." The woman puts out her hand, waiting for Dron to take it.
He’s so off guard that he simply stares at her for a few seconds, not sure of what to do.
"Krazek is injured. We don’t have a choice." Krex murmurs from where he is standing behind him.
Dron knew that this could be more of a trap, but he was just going to have to take a lot on faith.
He rose. his elbow and let the older woman grab hold of him. He waited for a second for her to recoil, but she didn’t. "You have no qualms touching me?" Dron asked, wanting. to know if the legend of his curse had infiltrated the people here in Skoq.
"Will touching you cause my hand to fall off?" The woman asked, looking up into his eyes once again.
"No."
"Will I contract an incurable disease?"
"No."
"Then I could care less what the people say about your so-called curse." She huffed and continued to walk.
Dron followed along with her for a second before he realized she. was going to walk right by Krazek.
"I can’t leave him here. He’s part of my team. I need to get him help."
The woman darted. Here’s to the grunting, panting alpha Dron had hidden behind some rocks.
"As you wish." She raised her other hand and waved. to a group of civilians who were a few paces back by the perimeter. Quickly they rushed forward and at once picked Krazek off. the ground and began moving toward the rocks.
"Where are you taking him?" Dron looked over his shoulder as he continued to follow the woman in the opposite direction.
"We are taking him to our doctors. That is what you wanted, is it not?"
Dron nodded his head without thinking.
"A nod. You really have let that human woman into your world, haven’t you? I’m happy to hear it. Based on what I’ve heard it’s been nothing but hardships for that species since they’ve been introduced to our people."
Dron stopped at that. He opened his mouth to talk. ButZeqon spoke first.
"Other humans? You have humans here?"
Dron remembered the rumors about their being a human camp in the forbidden lands, but he still had his doubts.
"You’ll see for yourselves." The woman continued walking. Leaving them all with more questions than answers. The suspense was eating away at Dron. He wanted to know what was going on here. Wanted to know. if it had anything to do with what happened. at the poor class. So far all he’d learned was that he was completely unprepared for what he found. Out here.
Slowly, the group of them came to the very base of the mountain. It seemed solid.
Dron didn’t know what the woman wanted him to see there. He looked down at her, but she simply hummed and swayed from side to side. She didn’t seem like she was confused or worried. in the least bit. Honestly with so many people around her it made sense that she wasn’t worried.
Even if Dron wanted to do something that would hurt her, he would be attacked by what looked like hundreds of people in an instant.
Just as he was about to ask the woman what they were doing. A deep rumbling, scrapping noise assaulted his ears, but just as quickly as it started, it ended. Then right in front of his face, the seemingly impenetrable stone cliff in front of him slowly moved to the side, showing a brightly lit tunnel.
This is where the kids had come from. This is where they had all come from. Dron was confused as the tunnel didn’t seem like it could hold all the people outside. Still, he didn’t want to say anything until he knew for sure.
"Mark, Chief, this doesn’t feel right." Krex whispered behind.
"Of course it doesn’t feel right. You are walking into the unknown with a bunch of people you all assumed. to be savages. Being wrong never feels right." The woman continued to walk, leading them deeper and deeper into the tunnel.
A second later there was a blinding light, and another door slid open. Dron and the woman stepped out into a large open space.
It was more than just a clearing. It was a town. A bustling town full of people and creatures. All of them staring at Dron and his crew of soldiers as if they were the monsters in their midst.
