Chapter 138
The roar that left Dron’s mouth shook the walls.
He pressed the indicator again to call Tempest, but just like before, he was unable to reach her.
All at once every fear that he had surfaced.
He’d left her on her own. Only with Gerax and Mexyn to keep her safe.
No. That wasn’t true; he left her with Rynax.
That scab would do what he could to change her heart. He would do anything to take what was Dron’s and make it his. It was a bad idea. He knew it when he went to ask Rynax to help him but he hoped that Tempest would be strong enough to resist.
Dron turned in the large room, his eyes already focused on the wood wall. He rammed his hand through the surface. The wood splintered as if it were already rotted through the second Dron pushed his fist through.
How could she do this to him? How could she have already run off with the next alpha while Dron was deep in the forbidden lands trying to figure out who was going against them?
He would just have to go back. He’d tell Mark Chief Tuliq that there was nothing to find here. He’d go back to Thraqe and find Rynax. He’d find that alpha and rip his head off for taking what was his.
The anger boiled in his veins and as he paced back and forth in the room he thought of all the different ways he would inflict pain on Rynax. All the ways he would make him scream in agony before he took the man’s life.
A sinister chuckle exploded out of Dron’s mouth.
It would be something to see. In fact he might just do all the torturing of Rynax in the main square. Everyone could stand by and watch.
Dron grabbed hold of one of the chairs in the room and tossed it across the room. The destruction did little to quell the rage building up in his system.
Dron tried his best to take a few deep breaths. It wouldn’t do him any good if he didn’t have a good plan. Dron knew that Rynax was a good fighter and would more than likely realize that once Dron figured out what he’d done he’d be on his way.
That wouldn’t do.
Dron wanted to catch Rynax by surprise.
Something for off sounded. Like a knock. Dron wouldn’t pay attention to it. There was too much for him to do. Too much for him to get in order before he started on his way back to Thraqe.
Another knock.
Dron roared at the sound. He wished it would stop. He grabbed another piece of furniture and hurled it at the source of the sound.
Dron could feel wetness on his brow, and when he wiped at it, he realized that he was sweating.
His heart was beating so fast his chest began to hurt. His alpha instincts were running wild.
Dron tried again to take another breath, but it did nothing to calm him. He closed his eyes, and an image of Tempest assaulted him.
Literally.
Just the sight of her in his mind’s eye was enough to cause a severe stabbing pain in Dron’s gut.
He groaned and fell to his knees.
The pain was intense and nothing like he’d ever felt before.
This must be what betrayal felt like.
He snarled and gritted his teeth against the pain. Dron refused to let this stop him from his new mission. Nothing felt more important now. He had to get back to Thraqe and kill Rynax.
For a second, Dron’s consciousness tried to tell him that he was overreacting, but his internal alpha pushed the thought away.
What else could be the reason for Tempest not answering? She thought that she could make him fall in love with her. To show him what he could have with a mate and then give it to someone else. There is no way that he could survive this betrayal, at least not without vengeance.
Even in his insane anger, Dron didn’t even dare think about doing anything to hurt Tempest. She was innocent in all of this. It was Rynax’s fault that she was tempted in the first place.
Rynax and Dron’s fault together.
Rynax should know his place, and Dron should’ve never left her on her own in the first place.
Dron couldn’t change the past, but he could at least prove to Rynax that he’d made the wrong decision.
There was another knock and then something squeaking.
Dron’s entire body trembled, ready for a fight. Someone was here to stop him.
He roared, turned and crouched.
"Dron?"
Dron’s eyes couldn’t focus on what was in front of him. Everything was a haze.
"Dron, can you hear me?" The person spoke again.
"You won’t stop me. I have to get to her. I have to get to Tempest."
"What? What are you talking about? We are nowhere near Thraqe. Your mate isn’t here."
"I will get to her!" Dron screamed and lunged at the figure.
"Moon goddess, no!" The figure darted out of the way.
Dron shook his head and blinked a few times, trying to focus his gaze.
"Dron, you have to stop. What is wrong with you?" The person spoke, but it went in one ear and out the other for Dron. He wouldn’t stop. Not ever.
"He’s completely taken over by his alpha instincts."
Someone else spoke. Dron sniffed the air. It wasn’t an alpha. He didn’t care who it was.
"Why? We’re not going to be able to break him out of that." Dron’s target continued to speak.
Dron lunged in the man’s direction, but the opponent tossed a piece of furniture in the way.
Dron raised his foot and brought it down on the wood. It broke to pieces.
"Call the rest of the crew. We need to hold him down." The other person in the room spoke.
"Hold him down? What is that going to do but make him more angry." The opponent called out before he tried to make his way to the door.
Dron knew he had to get to him before he left.
"Dron look at me. Look at me." The other person in the room stood in the way. Dron blinked a few times, and he slowly realized that it wasn’t just a random person in the room. It was Tine. She wasn’t a threat, but she was in the way.
"Move." He ordered her.
"No. I can’t move. If I let you go out into the town like this, you’ll cause too much destruction, and it’ll take that much longer for me to get the people here to trust you."
"I don’t care about the people here. I need to get back to my mate."
Tine gulped hard and took a step back. "I feared this would happen, but I didn’t think it would happen this quickly or be this intense."
Dron was confused. His thoughts swung violently between desperately needing to get to Tempest and all the different ways he would kill Rynax. There was no slowing it down.
"I need..." Dron started again.
"You need Tempest. I know. It’s the fated mate bond. It’s affecting your mental status." Tine gulped hard again.
Could it be true.
Dron had never felt anything like this before. He’d also never been so far away from Tempest for so long before.
It didn’t matter.
If getting close to Tempest was what he needed to do in order to get this pain and rage to stop, that is what he would do.
He tried to move past Tine but she stepped in his way again.
He roared in her face, and she cringed away. Dron stepped around her, but before he could get to the door, several alphas burst in.
Finally a real fight.
Dron crouched again and spread his arms to get ready for the battle.
They didn’t wait for him to attack first. Instead, they jumped him. All the alphas grabbed hold of Dron and wrestled him down to the ground.
Dron screamed and pushed back. Every time he pushed one off, another scrambled up his body to get purchase and hold him down.
After a few moments, Dron felt something sharp prick his neck.
He stretched and tried to mitigate the pain. It went away in seconds, and he felt his stomach turn.
"It’s not working." One of the alphas called out.
Another prick, this time in his side.
Dron swiped at the area.
Another prick.
And another.
Slowly, his strength and rage began to ebb, and he felt himself falling into a deep slumber.
Dron’s thoughts switched back to Tempest’s face, "I have to get back. Tempest. I need Tempest. Tempest." He said her name over and over again while the pile of alphas kept him pinned down to the ground.
Dron, finally able to think somewhat straight, realized what was going on. He was going through a fated mate sickness. He was going crazy.
Without Tempest, Dron wouldn’t make it.
