"They’re both living at the Fawcett residence, so they’re bound to run into each other. And they were together in the past, after all. But from what I can see, because of what happened back then, Nathan doesn’t care about Anne Sutton. Her foot has been sprained for the past two days, and he hasn’t even gone to check on her. He’s not the type to get wrapped up in romance. You really don’t have to worry. As for everything else, it’s best not to dwell on it, don’t you agree?"

Chloe Chase was at her wit’s end trying to maintain the relationship between the mother and son.

After Ethan Linden passed away, he was the only son Anna Linden had left.

As for Nathan Fawcett, he hadn’t grown up by his mother’s side, so living with her now was, of course, the best possible outcome.

She didn’t want the two of them to have a falling out over Anne Sutton.

Anna Linden said, "Then let’s put him aside for now. How is Stella?"

Chloe Chase said, "Don’t worry! I’ve already spoken to her and told her not to cause trouble with Nathan. That’s just his personality—the more of a scene you make, the more he’ll dislike you."

Anna Linden said, "I have no idea what he’s thinking. What’s wrong with Stella? She’s much better than that Anne Sutton! But he just has to keep thinking about that heartless woman!"

Stella Shields had stayed by her side and kept her company for the past few years.

She was even more thoughtful than her own son, Nathan.

Plus, she had known Ethan Linden back in the day.

She was deeply in love with him.

That’s why Anna Linden desperately wanted them to be together.

But Nathan stubbornly refused, which left her utterly exasperated.

Chloe Chase said, "Things like this are best left to fate. Perhaps Nathan and she simply aren’t meant to be."

Anna Linden said, "Fine. I’m not going to worry about them for now."

...

Anne Sutton’s foot felt much better today. That afternoon, since Nathan Fawcett was out, she took a trip to the hospital to check on her mother.

Before she even entered the room, Anne heard voices from inside.

It was a woman’s voice, and it sounded faintly familiar.

"I’ve been with him for ages! So what if you married him? Can you bear him a son? All these years, you’ve been by his side and only given him two daughters. Honestly, if I didn’t want to fight you for the title, do you really think you’d still be Mrs. Sutton?"

Hearing this, Anne’s expression instantly darkened. She pushed open the door and strode into the room. Just as she’d expected, Maya Evans was standing by her mother’s bed, a smug look on her face.

Mrs. Sutton, lying in bed, pointed a trembling finger at Maya Evans and said weakly, "Get... out!"

Tapping her high heels, Maya Evans sneered, "Tsk, tsk. How pathetic. Mr. Sutton has been with me the last two days, too busy to come see you. Honestly, you’re really something else. Sick as you are, you still insist on clinging to him. Don’t you find yourself annoying?"

Anne walked in, and seeing Maya Evans’s smug arrogance, she felt the resentment she had suppressed for so long finally boil over...

’I thought that if I just kept this from Mom for now, she’d never have to know. I never imagined this woman would actually find her way to the hospital just to gloat in Mom’s face!’

Seeing Anne, Maya Evans said, "Oh, look, Anne is here! If it isn’t the esteemed Miss Sutton."

She recognized Anne from having seen her in Sean Sutton’s office before.

The thought that Anne had managed to get her daughter kicked out of the Fawcett Group filled her with rage.

She was here today to make trouble!

’They crossed me, and I’m going to make sure this mother and daughter both suffer for it.’

Anne said, "Who sent you?"

"Your father is busy, so he sent me to look after your mother," Maya Evans said. "No need to thank me. We’re all one big happy family, after all."

"’Family? You?’" Anne stared at Maya Evans, her eyes blazing with fury. "’You don’t deserve to use that word.’"

Maya Evans retorted provocatively, "What’s with that look? It’s not like I wanted to come! But since you’re here, I have a question for you. Was it you who got my Yvonne fired from the company?"

"So what if I did get her fired?" Anne retorted. "Someone like her even thinks she’s worthy of working at the Fawcett Group? And using my name, claiming to be my sister? The thought alone makes me sick. You get it?"

’My own sister, Sharon, never got special treatment like that. The nerve of Yvonne Evans to run her mouth off like that!’

Maya Evans shot back, "Anne Sutton, don’t push it! If you’re going to be such a bully, then none of us will have a moment’s peace!"

All these years, the thought of having to hide from this family, even after giving Sean Sutton a son, had left a bitter taste in her mouth.

When Sean Sutton first got Yvonne into the company, she hadn’t planned on making any moves.

She could have tolerated it!

But this time, Anne had gone too far. She couldn’t take the bullying anymore, so she decided to come here and settle things!

Anne let out a cold laugh. "Oh, really?"

’I hadn’t even come after her yet, and she has the audacity to show up at my door!’

’She was the most shameless mistress I’ve ever seen!’

Maya Evans glanced at Mrs. Sutton on the hospital bed, then turned back to Anne. "Look at your mother. How pitiful! It’s a shame Mr. Sutton only has me in his heart. He doesn’t love her at all. Whose fault is that? She’s the one who couldn’t give him a son! If I were her, I’d just die from this illness and get it over with!"

Anne could no longer hold back. She raised her hand and slapped Maya hard across the face.

Maya, not expecting Anne to resort to violence, staggered and fell to the floor.

Staring at Anne in disbelief, she shrieked, "You... you actually hit me! Anne Sutton, believe me, I’m going to tell your father about this!"

"Go on! Go tell him."

Anne took out her phone. "Or better yet, why don’t I call him for you?"

Without waiting for a reply, she dialed Sean Sutton’s number.

"Anne, what is it?" Sean Sutton asked.

"Your woman is here in my mother’s hospital room. I want to know if you’re going to do something about it or not."

Sean Sutton was silent.

...

Maya scrambled to her feet. Recalling the slap and realizing she was no match for Anne in a fight, she turned her vicious words toward Mrs. Sutton on the bed. "You raised a daughter with a temper like that. No wonder she married into the Fawcett family only to end up a widow!"

Anne’s situation had always been a sore spot for Mrs. Sutton.

Maya’s words were meant to be a fatal, soul-crushing blow.

Anne grabbed the woman’s arm, dragged her out of the room, and threw her into the hallway.

Passersby were startled by the commotion. "Miss Sutton, what’s happening?"

Knowing Anne worked at the hospital, Maya started to cause a scene, yelling, "Help! A doctor is attacking someone! A doctor is attacking someone!"

Just then, Sharon Sutton arrived with David Miller. Seeing the scene, Sharon rushed over. "Sis, what’s wrong? What happened?"

A crowd had gathered, and Sharon was taken aback. She looked at the woman on the floor and asked, "Who is she?"

Anne stared at the woman, not knowing how to explain her identity.

Maya Evans, however, recognized Sharon immediately. "You’re Sharon Sutton?" she asked.

"You know me?" Sharon asked, taken aback.
