He didn’t expect Anne Sutton to still remember that.

Of course, he wasn’t about to admit it now. "No way, Anne. You’re overthinking it!"

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton and asked, "He mentioned me to you?"

Anne Sutton nodded. "Mhm, he did. Back then, I even wondered if he had a crush on you!"

Nathan Fawcett was speechless.

’Absolutely not!’

He looked at Caleb Summers. "Care to explain?"

Caleb Summers said, "No... It was a misunderstanding on Anne’s part! I didn’t say anything like that."

He had genuinely disliked Anne Sutton back then, and he’d felt uncomfortable seeing how protective Nathan Fawcett was of her.

But now...

Knowing how she had defended Ethan Linden yesterday, and also knowing what an excellent cook she was, he no longer felt any animosity toward Anne Sutton!

...

After dinner, Justin Shields looked at Anne Sutton and said, "By the way, Anne, there’s something I want to talk to you about. Let’s chat alone."

Anne Sutton nodded. "Okay."

Seeing that Justin Shields seemed to have something important to discuss, Anne Sutton didn’t refuse.

’It’s not like I have anything to hide!’

She and Justin Shields were just acquaintances, after all. There was no secret, sordid relationship between them.

So, Anne Sutton and Justin Shields went outside for a walk.

Caleb Summers stood beside Nathan Fawcett, watching the two of them leave. He said worriedly, "Should we follow them? I have a bad feeling about that Shields guy. I don’t think he has good intentions!"

Nathan Fawcett looked at Caleb Summers. Seeing that he had voiced his own thoughts aloud, he put on a stern face and said, "You, come with me. I have something to discuss with you."

Caleb Summers followed Nathan Fawcett upstairs and into the study before asking, "What’s up?"

Nathan Fawcett stood by the window, from where he could see the figures of Anne Sutton and Justin Shields.

While keeping an eye on the pair, he asked Caleb Summers, "Let’s put Justin Shields aside for a moment. What’s with you? You’re not still thinking of making a move on my wife, are you?"

Caleb Summers said, "If I recall correctly, she isn’t actually your wife yet, right? In any sense of the word."

Whether it’s Ethan Linden or Nathan Fawcett, neither of them has any official relationship with Anne Sutton right now.

Anne Sutton is a free agent at the moment!

Nathan Fawcett’s gaze turned cold, and he looked incredibly dangerous. "What did you just say?"

Seeing how much Nathan Fawcett cared about Anne Sutton, Caleb Summers laughed. "I’m just kidding! You know what kind of person I am. How could I ever covet my brother’s woman? That Shields guy, on the other hand, is a different story!"

Caleb Summers stood next to Nathan Fawcett and peered out the window. The sight of Justin Shields infuriated him. "What’s that Shields guy’s deal? Is he trying to steal Anne away right in front of you? Want me to step in?"

Seeing how eager Caleb Summers was to act on his behalf, Nathan Fawcett couldn’t tell if he genuinely wanted to help or if he had ulterior motives.

"No need," Nathan Fawcett said.

Caleb Summers said, "I hadn’t met Anne before, so I was a bit prejudiced against her. But now that I have, I see she’s actually alright! If you want to be with her, I don’t think I have any other objections."

"Really?" Nathan Fawcett didn’t quite believe him.

Caleb Summers said, "Really. But... can I come over for free meals in the future? Her cooking is seriously delicious."

Nathan Fawcett said, "You can come over for meals, but you probably won’t get to eat any. Her hands aren’t meant for cooking."

Caleb Summers exclaimed, "Already so protective! Tsk tsk... How come I never knew you had this side to you? Though, if it were me, I’d probably get hooked too."

He said admiringly as he watched Anne Sutton talking with Justin Shields.

The moment the words left his mouth, Nathan Fawcett stepped on his foot.

He quickly yelped, "Ethan, you’re stepping on me!"

Nathan Fawcett ground his foot down twice more, his expression impassive. "Am I?"

"If you’re going to be jealous, go take it out on that Shields guy! Why are you taking it out on me? I’m innocent!"

Caleb Summers felt wronged.

Nathan Fawcett stared at the two people talking downstairs, wondering what they were saying.

Justin Shields asked, "What’s the situation between you and Nathan Fawcett now?"

Anne Sutton replied, "There’s no situation. Why?"

"It’s just that he seemed a little different today," Justin Shields said. "I also heard that your injury was related to him."

Anne Sutton nodded. "It was, a little."

"You don’t hate him anymore?" Their progress was faster than Justin Shields had imagined. "Have you forgotten all the hatred from these past few years?"

He still remembered how much Anne Sutton had hated Nathan Fawcett for deceiving her before her arrival in Veridia.

After all, what happened with Ian was a huge deal!

It had caused her so much pain.

He never would have thought that the two of them would now be on the verge of getting together!

Hearing Justin Shields’s reminder, Anne Sutton said, "I don’t know! I just... I don’t want to see others wrongly accuse him. I didn’t really do much for him."

Justin Shields said, "If you truly decide to be with him, then I’ll wish you well."

Anne Sutton looked at Justin Shields and said, "Thank you."

Justin Shields saw the light in her eyes. When Nathan Fawcett was mentioned, her gaze was undeniably different.

’Looks like she likes him too!’

Justin Shields said, "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about your family. Before you came last time, didn’t you have someone help your dad? Charles Prescott had someone acquire his company. Now he’s taken the money and washed his hands of everything. I heard he’s planning to give it all to his son from another relationship. Your mother is very upset. Do you want to ask about it?"

"..." Hearing this, Anne Sutton said to Justin Shields, "I see. Thank you for telling me."

She hadn’t been close with her family these past few years, so they were reluctant to call her directly about their problems, afraid of bothering her.

Justin Shields said, "I know you have things to handle here, so I can only do my best to help look after your family."

"Thank you." His kindness made Anne Sutton feel a bit embarrassed.

Justin Shields said, "Between us, there’s no need for thanks. Even if... you’re not willing to be with me, I hope we can still be friends. Anne, I want to be your friend."

Hearing his words, Anne Sutton said, "If it weren’t for Stella Shields, maybe we could have been very good friends."

Justin Shields laughed. "Alright! What can I do, having a sister like her?"

He looked at her and said, "Well, I’ll head back for today then. As long as you’re recovering well, I can rest easy."

Anne Sutton said, "Okay."

Justin Shields stood up, looked at her, and said, "If one day you feel wronged at the Linden Family’s home and don’t want to be with Ethan Linden anymore, you can come to me. I’ll always be waiting for you."

"..." Anne Sutton looked at him, not knowing how to respond.

Since she had no romantic feelings for him, she really didn’t want to be indebted to him.

His promise to always wait for her just put a lot of pressure on her.

Justin Shields knew Nathan Fawcett didn’t want to see him getting close to Anne Sutton, so he left after finishing their conversation.

Anne Sutton remained seated on the wooden bench. It was a bit cold outside, and the wind was strong.

Nathan Fawcett walked over and draped a jacket over her shoulders. "Are you cold? You came out without even putting on a coat."
