Anne Sutton said, "We just came out for a meal since we were in the area. You don’t have to overthink it. That Ms. Yorke is very beautiful. She’s a good match for you."

"Is that so?" Nathan Fawcett said. "Yeah, I think she’s beautiful too. Much better than you!"

"..." ’Why does he have to make it a personal attack?’ The jab made Anne Sutton uncomfortable.

Anne Sutton said, "How could I possibly compare to her? Congratulations. I hope you two start a family soon. When that happens, you can give Ian back to me, right? Or how about this, just give Ian back to me now! Otherwise... if you’re going to marry someone else, it won’t look good for you if people find out you have a child."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. Her intentions were so obvious it was like she was spelling them out for him.

’Does she really think I’m an idiot?’

Nathan Fawcett said, "At least Ian won’t be mistreated with me. I can’t say the same if he’s with you. Who knows if you’ll get tired of him one day and abandon him again? After all, you were the one who wanted to abort him."

Nathan Fawcett’s words twisted the knife in Anne Sutton’s heart.

She was clearly the victim in that situation, but how could she prove to him that she hadn’t wanted to abandon Ian? That she had been forced?

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "What if I told you I never wanted to give Ian up? Nathan, have you ever considered what kind of life I had to live, facing Miles and Charles Prescott after you left? Do you think they’d treat me the same way with you gone? When you were around, you had my back. But when you weren’t, what was I supposed to do, a woman all alone? Forget it! You never thought about any of this. You think I’m a bad person, so just go on thinking that!"

Anne Sutton felt a surge of frustration.

She gave Nathan Fawcett one last look and walked away.

She strode past him without a backward glance.

Nathan Fawcett watched her receding back. Anne Sutton quickly reached the private room’s door, where Anna Linden was already getting ready to leave.

Since Nathan wasn’t there, she was waiting for him to get back before she left.

Seeing Anne Sutton walk in, Anna Linden didn’t say anything.

Anne Sutton sat down, gathered her things, and said to Anna Linden, "I have some things to take care of at the hospital, so I’m heading back first."

She looked to be in a terrible mood.

Anna Linden watched her, a small smile playing on her lips. It looked like Anne Sutton was clearly provoked.

’Perfect...’

’The whole reason I brought her here today was to provoke her!’

She was keeping Anne Sutton close precisely to make her see just how impossible things were between her and Nathan Fawcett.

Soon, Nathan Fawcett returned as well.

Seeing him walk in, Anna Linden said, "We’ll be heading out now! Ethan, I’ll leave Faye in your hands!"

After speaking, she walked out the door. Anne Sutton was already outside the private room.

She had wanted to leave this place for a while now, to get as far away as possible.

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton’s back. Faye Yorke, watching him, thought he was looking at his mother and smiled. "What’s wrong? Why don’t you go see Mrs. Linden off?"

"No need." Nathan Fawcett sat down and glanced at Faye Yorke.

’As my true self, Nathan Fawcett, I have absolutely no desire to deal with these people.’

But he was currently using Ethan Linden’s identity, so he had no choice but to play along.

Faye Yorke looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "By the way, Ethan, Mrs. Linden told me you’re still single. What do you think of me?"

"What do I think of you in what way?" Nathan Fawcett asked, looking at Faye Yorke.

Seeing his confused expression, Faye Yorke said, "I just think that our families have a good relationship, and our financial situations are compatible. If we were to get together..."

Nathan Fawcett said, "Sorry, I’m not interested."

Faye Yorke looked at him, embarrassed. "Is there something about me you’re not happy with? If you think I’m being too forward, we can take things slow."

Nathan Fawcett said, "You’re great. The problem is with my body."

"I know," Faye Yorke said. "Mrs. Linden mentioned before that you were sick and had surgery. But medicine is so advanced now, and with Mrs. Linden here, you’ll be fine! Your illness will get better."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "It’s not about the surgery you mentioned. It’s an illness that’s... difficult to talk about. The kind that’s hard to bring up, you understand?"

Hearing this, Faye Yorke froze for a moment. After a while, she looked at Nathan Fawcett, her eyes immediately filling with sympathy.

’A physical problem, and one that’s hard to talk about? Could he... have a problem in *that* department?’

Nathan Fawcett said to her, "If you’re done eating, I can take you home. I have something to do this afternoon."

Faye Yorke nodded, stood up, and followed Nathan Fawcett out the door.

「...」

Anne Sutton sat in Anna Linden’s car. Anna looked at her and said, "What do you think of Faye Yorke? Her family is well-off, she’s capable, and she’s never been married... In every respect, she’s a great match for Ethan! I like her a lot."

Anne Sutton said, "If you brought me out today to try and intimidate me, Ma’am, there’s really no need. I’ve already told you, I’m not interested in Ethan Linden."

"Not interested, yet you insist on staying here?" Anna Linden looked at her, clearly not believing a word she said.

Anne Sutton said, "If you can get Ethan Linden to give Ian to me so I can take him back to Westhaven, I’ll leave immediately. I won’t stay here a day longer."

"..." Anna Linden knew, of course, that Nathan Fawcett would never give up the child!

’Anne Sutton is clearly making things difficult on purpose.’

Anna Linden said, "It doesn’t matter. If you want to keep hanging around here, be my guest. Sooner or later, you’ll realize everything you’re doing is meaningless. Ethan will marry someone else, and you... you’ll be nothing more than Ian’s mother."

"..." Anne Sutton replied, "I’ve already said all I have to say. For me, my child is more important. So what if the Linden Family is rich? It has nothing to do with me."

Seeing Anne Sutton’s stubborn facade, Anna Linden said nothing more.

Anna Linden was in a good mood today, so she didn’t give Anne a hard time. Anne Sutton got off work on time. She was about to head home when she remembered that Nathan Fawcett had already taken Ian that morning.

After work, instead of going anywhere else, Anne Sutton went to a car dealership. She wanted to buy a car, and a house too. If Ian was going to live with her in the future, having a car and a house would make things much more convenient.

She sat in the dealership, listening to the salesperson explain the car’s features, not understanding a single word.

Just then, someone walked over.

"Mr. Shields," the salesperson greeted Justin Shields politely upon seeing him.

Anne Sutton looked up, surprised to see Justin Shields standing in front of her. "What are you doing here?"

Justin Shields said, "A friend of mine is over here, so I came to take a look. Are you here to buy a car?"

"..." Anne Sutton nodded. "Yeah."

Justin Shields sat down and said, "What kind of car are you looking for? Have anything in mind?"

"Nothing fancy," Anne Sutton said. "Just something to get around in."

"Have you seen Ian?" Justin Shields asked with concern.

At the mention of Ian’s name, Anne Sutton’s expression grew complicated.
