Chloe Chase nodded. "Okay."

With that, she went to contact the other parties.

Nathan Fawcett had just finished a meeting when he received a call from his mother. She told him that Faye Yorke had rejected the marriage proposal and no longer wanted to pursue a relationship with him. She had already arranged for someone else and wanted Nathan to go meet them.

Nathan was about to refuse when Anna Linden added, "Anne Sutton will be there too."

"..." Hearing this, Nathan had no choice but to agree.

Anne Sutton followed Anna Linden to the private dining room. Anna hadn’t even bothered to change the venue; it was the same place as last time. Anne had no idea who they were supposed to be meeting.

’But with the Linden Family’s status, finding a woman for him to marry should be quite easy.’

A moment later, Nathan Fawcett arrived. He saw Anne Sutton, then his gaze shifted to his mother. "Why have you been spending so much time with her lately? Didn’t you say you disliked her?" he asked.

Anna Linden glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "She works at the hospital now. I was with her and just asked her to come along when I saw her."

Hearing this, Nathan glanced at Anne Sutton. He didn’t really understand the situation at the hospital.

Nathan sat down and asked his mother, "So which family’s daughter did you set me up with today?"

Anna Linden said, "You’ll know when you see her."

Nathan sat to the side, unconcerned. He had been wondering how to break things off with Faye Yorke, so he was surprised she had taken the initiative herself.

A few moments later, the door to the private room opened. Chloe Chase walked in from outside, went to Anna Linden’s side, and whispered a few words to her. Anna’s face darkened. She looked at Chloe and asked, "Did they really say that?"

Chloe Chase nodded. "Yes. They’ve heard about... the situation. No one is willing to come have dinner with the young master!"

Hearing this, Anna Linden’s temper flared. She glared at Nathan Fawcett, seething with anger, then stood up and stormed out.

She had completely lost her appetite for this meal.

Nathan Fawcett watched his mother’s angry departure, then glanced at Chloe Chase. "Mrs. Chase, what happened?"

’I already listened to my mother and came to this blind date. What is she so unhappy about? I’ve been perfectly cooperative with this whole matchmaking business, haven’t I?’

Chloe Chase looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Somehow, the word has gotten out. They’ve heard that you... have a hidden ailment, Young Master. None of them are willing to let their daughters marry you."

Nathan Fawcett: "..."

Anne Sutton, sitting to the side, looked at the man. She knew better than anyone that Nathan Fawcett had no such "hidden ailment."

’Still, he must be speechless to be unfairly blamed like this!’

Anne Sutton pursed her lips, desperately trying not to laugh out loud.

Chloe Chase looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Well, I’ll be going now."

She felt bad that things had turned out this way, but she had no choice but to follow after Anna Linden.

Anne Sutton remained seated, her lips twitching. Nathan Fawcett stared at her, his gaze unwavering, until she finally couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out laughing.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Is it that funny?"

Anne Sutton picked up her glass, trying desperately to compose herself. "It’s nothing. I just think it’s funny you’re so famous now! No wonder Faye Yorke went to the hospital to call off the engagement with your mother. It seems you didn’t... ’satisfy’ her."

Nathan Fawcett’s face darkened. "What nonsense are you talking about?"

He had just been honest with Faye Yorke last time, telling her he had a physical problem.

He did have a physical problem—he felt unwell and had allergic reactions whenever he got close to a woman. So far, Anne Sutton was the only exception.

But he never expected Faye Yorke to twist his words like this!

And now the rumor had spread everywhere, to the point that everyone knew!

Anne Sutton said, "It wasn’t me who spread it, so why are you blaming me?"

Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. "You, of all people, should know whether I can ’perform’ or not, shouldn’t you?"

"..." Anne Sutton glanced at him, then looked away, refusing to engage with his crude comment.

After they finished eating, Nathan Fawcett stood up, looked at her, and said, "I’ll take you home."

"No need. I can get back on my own."

"Ian is still at your place. I’ll pick him up while I’m at it."

"..." Hearing that he was going to pick up Ian, Anne Sutton felt a pang of reluctance. But Ian had come over the day before yesterday and had already been with her for two days. It was perfectly reasonable for Nathan Fawcett to take him back.

Since they were separated, it was a given that the child couldn’t stay with her forever.

Anne Sutton got into Nathan Fawcett’s car. During the ride, she was silent. Nathan looked at her and said, "I hear you’ve been getting pretty close to Justin Shields these past couple of days."

"I already told you, what I do is none of your business."

Anne knew he must have heard it from Ian!

In reality, she hadn’t had that much interaction with Justin Shields.

But she just didn’t feel like explaining herself to Nathan Fawcett!

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, wanting to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out.

’The family situation still isn’t sorted out!’

Back at her apartment, Ian was playing contentedly. Though the place wasn’t large, he was happy staying there.

When he saw Anne Sutton return, he said, "Mommy, you’re finally back!"

Anne Sutton said, "I’m sorry."

’I meant to come back earlier, but Anna Linden dragged me out to dinner!’

Anne Sutton was starting to realize something: whenever things didn’t go smoothly between Nathan Fawcett and other women, Anna Linden would push the blame onto her, making her life miserable too.

Ian saw Nathan Fawcett standing next to Anne Sutton and said, "Daddy, what are you doing here?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at him and said, "I came to take you home. What, you don’t want to go back?"

"Will Mommy come with us?" Ian asked, looking at Anne Sutton.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Why don’t you ask her if she’s willing?"

He knew Anne Sutton wouldn’t be.

Anne Sutton said, "If I went to your house, your mother would eat me alive."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and asked worriedly, "My mother didn’t give you a hard time at the hospital, did she? Anne Sutton, maybe you should just go back to Westhaven! Don’t stay here. I’m afraid you’ll be treated unfairly."

Hearing his words, Anne Sutton retorted, "Right, so you’re trying to chase me away again! Don’t tell me it’s ’for my own good’!"

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, sighed, and said to Ian, "Let’s go home."

"Can’t we leave a little later?"

"You’ve already been playing here for two days. You still don’t want to leave?" Nathan Fawcett said as he picked up his son.

Anne Sutton said, "I’ll see you out."

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and said, "Never mind, don’t. I’m afraid Ian will cry."

’And I’m afraid she’ll cry, too.’

Anne Sutton remembered the last time she had to part with Ian, and a wave of sadness washed over her.

She stopped in her tracks and just said goodbye to Ian at the door.

Nathan Fawcett took Ian back, but he didn’t take the nanny with them. He left her there with Anne.

Anne Sutton looked at the nanny who had originally come with Ian and asked, "Why didn’t you leave?"

"Mr. Fawcett told me to stay here and take care of you. He said it’s not very safe for you to live alone, so he asked me to keep you company."

Anne Sutton: "..."

During all those years Nathan Fawcett was away, it was this same nanny who had always stayed with her!

If she hadn’t come to Veridia, she wouldn’t be living with the nanny again.

Now that the nanny wasn’t leaving, Anne Sutton didn’t have the heart to send her away.
