Old Wang, the groom driving the carriage, raised his whip and shouted, "WHOA~"

The carriage carrying Lu Yuan and Su Liyan came to a steady halt at the Lu Mansion’s entrance.

The groom, Old Wang, spoke to the carriage behind him, "Nephew Master... oh, no, Mr. Lu, we’ve arrived."

Lu Yuan’s slightly breathless voice came from inside the carriage: "Just a moment!"

"Of course, Sir!" Old Wang the groom put away his whip and sat outside the carriage’s curtained door.

Inside, Lu Yuan and Su Liyan were busy getting dressed.

Su Liyan, wiping Lu Yuan’s ’vomit’ off her clothes, complained softly, "Honey, look at this! You should have just kept it inside. Why did you have to pull out? It got all over my clothes."

Lu Yuan muttered under his breath while straightening his own clothes, "Darling, it’s only been a little over a year since Bengbeng was born. I was counting the days... I was worried it wasn’t safe."

Su Liyan asked in disbelief, "Honey, you know about that?"

Lu Yuan looked up, a smug expression on his face. "Of course. It usually comes once a month, for five or six days. Am I right?"

Su Liyan nodded. "You’re right... and you’re wrong."

Lu Yuan was confused. "What’s that supposed to mean? What do you mean, ’right... and wrong’?"

Su Liyan replied, "Well, then tell me, dear, how often does it come for a snake? And for how long?"

"Er... I actually have no idea about that!" Lu Yuan thought for a moment. He really didn’t know. ’Why would I have ever studied snakes?’

Su Liyan smiled faintly and reminded him, "Honey, I’m a Snake Woman of the Half-demon Race. Of course I’m different from you of the Human Race."

Hearing this, Lu Yuan slapped his thigh in regret and sighed. "If I’d known, I would have just finished inside. So, darling, how often does it come for you?"

Su Liyan finished wiping the mess off her clothes. "I’m not telling you, hehe. Alright, dear, let’s get out of the carriage."

"Okay!" Lu Yuan agreed, then helped Su Liyan out of the carriage.

The groom standing nearby twitched his nose, wondering to himself, ’It’s the dead of winter. Why is there a smell of heather?’

The groom pinched his nose and muttered to himself, "I’m getting old. Even my nose isn’t working right anymore."

Lu Yuan and Su Liyan held hands and stepped through the main gate of the Lu Mansion.

Su Liyan, having overheard the groom, flushed red. She pulled a small bottle of perfume from her robes and spritzed herself.

"Honey, the perfume you made smells so good~"

"I’m glad you like it. When you run out, I’ll make you more. I guarantee it’s much better than those fancy brands like Chan*l or Lanc*me."

"Okay!" Su Liyan took Lu Yuan’s arm, and they entered the Mansion Gate.

One of Lu Yuan’s trusted men walked over to Old Wang the groom and clapped him on the shoulder. "What are you still standing here gawking for? You’ve forgotten the rules? No stopping in front of the gate for long. Take the carriage to the stables!"

Old Wang bowed and said with an apologetic smile, "Yes, yes, of course. It’s been so long since the Master and Madam required my services, I’m getting forgetful."

With that, Old Wang led the carriage away.

「Meanwhile, in the Yan Mansion in Yandu」

King Yan, Gu Di, was pacing back and forth in a panic. Not a single one of the soldiers he had dispatched had found that audacious Gu Gaoxu.

"My lord, where has our son gone?" King Yan’s wife asked anxiously.

King Yan, Gu Di, replied, "How should I know? If I find out where that rotten brat has taken a squad of soldiers, I’ll be sure to give him a good whipping."

「Little did they know」

Gu Gaoxu had led a squad of soldiers along the back roads and had already arrived at Elephant Island.

Elephant Island was part of King Lu’s fiefdom. The guard had just been changed in the last few days, and the one leading the new garrison was King Lu’s Sixth Son, Gu Zhaolian.

Normally, a son of King Lu wouldn’t need to personally lead the troops for a guard rotation. Such a minor task would usually be delegated to one of his generals.

Gu Zhaolian, who was on patrol on Elephant Island, watched several large ships approach and wondered, ’Why are merchant ships heading here? There’s no trade or business on this island.’

Gu Zhaolian studied them carefully. ’I can’t afford any slip-ups right now.’

Gu Zhaolian shielded his eyes with his hand, blocking the sun. He could see glints of silver from the ships—the reflected light of Armor.

"Isn’t that Gu Gaoxu? What’s he doing here?" Gu Zhaolian muttered.

Before the merchant ships had even docked, an impatient Gu Gaoxu leaped from the deck and landed on Elephant Island.

Gu Zhaolian led a few soldiers forward to greet him with a smile, clasping his hands in salute. "Cousin, what brings you here?"

Gu Gaoxu glanced around and said nonchalantly, "I’m here for some sightseeing."

"Sightseeing?" Gu Zhaolian repeated, confused.

Gu Gaoxu stared at Gu Zhaolian. "That’s right. Just touring around, taking a look."

"Cousin, what about..." Gu Zhaolian trailed off, gesturing toward the soldiers on the merchant ships.

Gu Gaoxu came up with a lie on the spot, draping an arm over Gu Zhaolian’s shoulder. "Little brother, you don’t understand. My old man worries about me. See? He insisted on sending these few hundred men to protect me. It’s not too much, is it? You don’t have a problem with that, do you?"

Gu Gaoxu had invoked his father, leaving the low-born Sixth Son of King Lu with nothing to say.

With his left hand behind his back, Gu Gaoxu waved to the soldiers on the ships. Receiving the signal, they began to unload boxes from the ships onto the island.

Gu Zhaolian forced a smile. "Cousin, how could you say such a thing? Since it was Fourth Uncle’s arrangement, how could I dare to defy my own elder?"

"Cousin, Taiping City isn’t far from here. Why not go look around there? I heard you get along well with Thirteenth Uncle," Gu Zhaolian asked probingly.

Gu Zhaolian was just trying to figure out how to get Gu Gaoxu and his men to leave. ’If you want to go sightseeing, go do it somewhere else.’
