Chapter 505 - 276: I Can’t Bring Myself to Kiss a Middle-Aged Man
Su Changliang muttered to himself as he observed the scene, his voice just loud enough for everyone present to hear.
"The doors and windows show no signs of forced entry, and there are no signs of a struggle. The man fell to the ground before he died, and the woman has mysteriously fainted..."
Su Changliang called a Forensic Doctor in. Instead of examining the body directly, he had the man inspect the food on the table.
Su Changliang continued to rattle off his observations, his words subtly pointing to the old woman crying by the door as the murderer.
The Forensic Doctor took out a Silver Needle and stirred it in the food. Seeing it turn black, he said, "My lord, the food is poisoned!"
"My lord, I found a packet of poison under the bed!" a governmental officer called out.
Su Changliang turned to the old woman and bellowed, "You venomous old hag! How dare you poison your own husband and then report the crime to mislead me!"
Stunned by Su Changliang’s accusation, the old woman’s sobs hitched. She stared blankly for a moment before crying out:
"My lord, you’ve got it all wrong! Why would I poison my own husband!" The old woman’s wails grew even louder.
Su Changliang strode outside and shouted, "The evidence is ironclad, yet you still deny it! Men, take her to the dungeons and keep a close eye on her!"
The governmental officers cupped their fists and replied in unison, "As you command!"
Several governmental officers then dragged the old woman away.
The commotion drew a crowd. Neighbors gathered around the clinic’s entrance, chattering as they watched the spectacle. Opinions were flying:
"The old couple seemed so devoted to each other. I can’t believe she’d do something like this!"
"You never know. These days, you can know a person’s face but not their heart!"
"Let’s see what judgment the magistrate delivers!"
"Sigh, poor Doctor Li. He was such a good man. Gone just like that."
"You can say that again!"
...
Su Changliang didn’t have the Forensic Doctor examine the body. The man lying on the floor had purple lips; one didn’t need a close look to know he’d been poisoned.
Su Changliang ordered, "Everyone out. Secure the scene, don’t touch anything. Seal the door—no one is to enter or exit."
In the dead of winter, the body wouldn’t decompose even after a few days.
The most urgent task was to bring the murderer to justice within the next day or two!
With that, Su Changliang swaggered off.
A few governmental officers placed a seal on the room door, then exited the clinic and sealed the main entrance as well.
The governmental officers shooed the neighbors away, saying, "Break it up, break it up! Nothing to see here. Everyone go on home."
After dispersing the crowd, the governmental officers stood guard at the clinic’s main entrance.
One governmental officer yawned and said, "What a pain. I was about to turn in for the night, and now I have to stand guard duty here."
"Keep it down, the magistrate hasn’t gone far," another officer replied. "Hopefully, someone comes to relieve us for the late shift."
Inside the room at the clinic, Doctor Li, the man on the floor with purple lips, suddenly opened his eyes. He rose to his feet and let out a cold laugh.
He gently pushed the door open, leaped onto the wall, and vaulted over, disappearing into the night after just a few steps.
His movements were so agile that the governmental officers at the clinic’s entrance didn’t notice a thing.
Su Changliang stood at a street corner, seemingly waiting for someone.
Doctor Li landed nimbly in front of Su Changliang and looped an arm through his.
Su Changliang froze for a moment, a little flustered.
Doctor Li’s thick, purple lips curled into a smile at Su Changliang. "So, how did I do?"
Su Changliang looked at the middle-aged man before him. "It was great. Your acting was very convincing!"
Doctor Li shook Su Changliang’s arm, pouting those thick lips. The voice that came out was that of a gruff old man. "Well? Aren’t you going to give me a little kiss? As a reward, you know~"
Su Changliang coughed and shifted forward half a step. He stared at the middle-aged man, wanting to kiss him but just couldn’t bring himself to do it.
"Oh, forget it! We can talk about it at home!" Su Changliang said, grabbing Doctor Li’s hand and starting to walk toward the Su Mansion.
"Hmph. You don’t love me anymore, do you?" As the middle-aged man spoke, his body and appearance began to change. He gradually transformed into a beautiful young woman, two furry ears perking up playfully, looking utterly adorable.
The person Su Changliang was holding hands with was none other than his wife, Xiaoqian.
Without turning back, Su Changliang said, "My dear wife, when you’re shapeshifted to look like Doctor Li, it’s really hard for me to kiss you!"
Xiaoqian yanked Su Changliang back with her right hand. With her plump, cherry-red lips, rosy cheeks, and a pout, she swayed her body coquettishly. "And now?" she purred.
Su Changliang glanced around and saw that they were alone.
Su Changliang licked his lips and swallowed. He gently rubbed one of Xiaoqian’s furry ears with his right hand, rested his left hand on her chest, and leaned in to kiss her.
A forked snake tongue and a little fox’s tongue twirled together, a trickle of saliva occasionally escaping.
After a long moment.
"Ahem, ahem, ahem..."
A series of coughs from a dim corner of the street ahead interrupted their intimate moment.
Su Changliang and Xiaoqian had been completely absorbed, unaware of how long the person had been there or how much they had seen.
Embarrassed, Su Changliang retracted his forked tongue. He looked down and tugged at his clothes, as if trying to hide something.
Xiaoqian noticed the top few buttons of her blouse had come undone. She hurriedly fastened it, hiding her two little "bunnies" away.
A figure slowly emerged from the dim corner. He was about five-foot-ten and teased, "Brother-in-law, you can’t be doing things like this out in the open. It’s indecent!"
A smile plastered on his face, Su Changliang replied, "Brother-in-law, you’re right. It was indeed inappropriate."
’Of course, Su Changliang knew full well that when it came to ’indecent’ matters, no one could hold a candle to his brother-in-law! Anywhere there weren’t any bystanders, his brother-in-law would be up to something. Especially with his own sister. He showed no mercy with his ’rod,’ making her cry out with pleasure again and again!’
Su Changliang would never say these things out loud; he’d be too embarrassed.
Lu Yuan waved his hand, setting up an Invisible Air Wall around them. Xiaoqian clapped and said, "You’re amazing, brother-in-law! To know such a powerful Technique."
Lu Yuan smiled and nodded at Xiaoqian. "So, how did the task I asked of you two go today?"
Su Changliang adopted a serious expression. "Brother-in-law, don’t say that. It was no trouble at all. I’ve already had Doctor Li’s wife thrown in the dungeons."
Lu Yuan nodded, pleased. "Brother-in-law, you handled this beautifully. I’ll have you over for drinks tomorrow!"
Xiaoqian jumped in with a giggle. "Oh no, you can’t, brother-in-law! Changliang is quitting drinking right now. We’re planning to have a baby by the end of the year!"
Xiaoqian’s face grew redder as she spoke.
"That’s wonderful news! We’ll owe you those drinks, then. We’ll wait until my brother-in-law takes care of his important business. The new year is almost here, so we can all get together then!"
Su Changliang gave an obsequious smile. "You’re too understanding, brother-in-law. It’s just, this whole thing tonight happened so suddenly, and there’s one thing I don’t quite get."
Lu Yuan replied, "Go ahead and ask."
So Su Changliang asked, "Brother-in-law, look, Doctor Li was poisoned by someone using a Silver Needle. Why did we frame his wife and arrest her?"
A Silver Needle materialized in Lu Yuan’s hand. "Outside the Imperial City, I was once struck by one of these," he said. "If it weren’t for my profound Inner Strength, boosted by a Healing Pill, I’d have met my great-grandfather long ago. Speaking of whom, my great-grandfather was also a County Magistrate in Taiping City, though he was an official of the former dynasty."
Lu Yuan had only survived thanks to his wife and mother-in-law rescuing him in the nick of time.
Back then, Lu Yuan was only barely hanging on. It was his wife and mother-in-law who defeated his enemies.
"And then what?" Xiaoqian found a spot to sit down, cupping her face in her hands, looking like she was ready for all the tea.
Lu Yuan and Su Changliang also sat down on the curb.
And so the three of them sat right there on the street, chatting away without a care in the world.
Lu Yuan’s Invisible Air Wall ensured that no one could see or hear them.
Lu Yuan said, "I’ve studied medicine. While the art of healing and the art of poison are different, they have their similarities. I dissolved the poison from the Silver Needle in a solvent and, after a pharmacological analysis..."
Xiaoqian cut in, "Brother-in-law, what’s a solvent?"
