I trust yall read between the lines when it comes to Natasha, she does one thing and means something else.

Good luck.

...

"I am not talking about that; what do you really want from me?" He cut in dryly.

"I don’t know what you mean, John?" She gave that cute, oblivious look, her red hair sliding down her shoulders as she leaned forward.

"The way you walk, you only hide your training enough that the normal people wouldn’t notice it. Even the way you purposefully let that mask slip at times while talking to me, I know you aren’t someone as simple as a replacement professor." John really wanted to drop her legal name right there, but that would only create more problems.

"What are you playing at?" Because even if he didn’t know her, she had been dropping enough hints for anyone with decent observation to notice how out of place she was.

"Hey now, figuring things out is my job, okay?" This much was good enough for now because her face went to neutral like she had control over each muscle; before long, a smirk appeared on her lips.

"It didn’t look like you were trying." He leaned on the wall to the left, finally able to relax a bit.

"Well, I made a bet with someone on how long I would have to put my ass in your face for you to give a reaction." She stepped closer with a huff. "I admit it was fun to see you try and look away. But it hurts my pride to see it took that much to make you budge. Normally a smile and passionate eye contact do the job."

Even now, she hadn’t stopped testing him. Black Widow herself was an ultimate test, but the way she spun her words to get the information she needed wasn’t to be taken lightly. If he went along with her flow, she would get everything and leave him with nothing.

Against a seasoned spy like her, framing the conversation as an exchange would work the best.

"Did you come here for what happened at Stark Expo?" But an exchange was never equal; one party always gained more.

"You can say that." Natasha smiled, already catching onto his plan, but she played along with him. "But that isn’t all."

The gears in John’s head turned. If it was him being a risk, Fury wouldn’t have sent Natasha all the way here. It was a move too dumb for someone who had seen the video of him fighting the Hammer drones.

’So, either Fury wants to recruit me, or she hadn’t turned the footage in?’ That left him with the simplest question: why would she not turn it in?

"Is this about Kraven?" His probing continued as she stopped a few steps in front of him.

"Do you think so?" She raised her brow playfully.

That reaction was enough to tell him Kraven wasn’t the issue either. Natasha didn’t say if John did the right thing by beating him or show any repulsion for the fact; this was her own thoughts, not SHIELD’s.

Because depending on how SHIELD viewed his fight against Kraven and the Hammer drones, he could either be placed under surveillance or observation.

Fury either had every possible candidate under observation or on a watch list. If he had sent Natasha, it would be for observation and analysis.

But Natasha hadn’t shown any signs of either yet, at least in his case. Rather than interrogation, she was trying to test his skills, like she wanted to confirm something.

A part of him wanted to show off, but that would get him in the wrong box with Natasha. Watching over his shoulder for the readers was enough; he didn’t want to add a highly trained, almost superhuman assassin to the list.

’He is listing the reasons SHIELD could send me after him; he knows the standard procedure and already expected to get monitored. But he is a bit too calm.’ She had touched his shoulders and back during the lectures, and there were no scars or bullet wounds anywhere.

Someone trained under those types of organizations wouldn’t be this unblemished or unguarded about their body. Even she had her wounds despite being trained in espionage, assassination, and seduction. The scars came with the skills.

"Who are you?" She decided to deal with him as he wanted; he had skills, but he didn’t get them the usual way.

"Want me to do your job for you?" He scoffed.

"I was hoping you would be generous. But if it means anything..." She leaned in, her right hand climbing under his shirt while whispering to him, "...I can pay for the information in any way you want."

’No scars here either.’ She kept the inviting smile, going closer till her lips were just a few inches away from his; that’s when she tried to slip her hand on his back.

But he grabbed her wrist and pulled at her. Before she could blink, her back hit the wall as she gasped. No, she had hit his chest. His left arm wrapped around her chest and grabbed her right shoulder, keeping her in place. And his fingers dug under her jaw, with his thumbs firmly shutting her lips.

"I think I have been a bit too patient with you." John’s tone had turned cold. The words almost seemed foreign as his breath fell on her ear.

Natasha could tell from the way those fingers were placed. If she tried something else, he would rip her face off.

But would he really do it? No, he wouldn’t.

All the fights he had been involved in were cases where he had no other way out.

The fight with Ajax happened because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kraven targeted him, and he retaliated. At the Stark Expo, he used his power to save the civilian couple and his date, Gwen Stacy.

John wasn’t some sleeper agent or a pawn of any organization. Well, the chances were never zero, but this action of his, along with her own investigation and instinct, all pointed to only one answer.

’Even if it was a let down on that front, he is still a fascinating case.’ Natsha raised her hands, not a twitch on her face. Instead, she kissed his thumb slightly as a form of her surrender.

Hearing him sigh, she signalled at him that she would take out a pen and paper. With an unreal calm, she started patting down her pockets, before finally undoing the first two buttons of her blouse.

Feeling his gaze on her hands, to make she didn’t pull a fast one on him, she reached into her cleavage and took out a palm-sized notebook and pen stuffed in the lacy black bra. Flashing him on purpose.

’This woman I swear...’ John almost rolled his eyes as she started writing on the paper while wrapping her lips around his thumb.

What was this? Her pacifier?

After a few more seconds of scribbling, she held the paper up for him to read.

’SHIELD didn’t order me to observe you specifically.’

The file Fury had given her was filled with many people with the name John. Because the writer John Doe and his website were bouncing between the IP addresses and emails of every person named John in the world.

John Grayson was one of the first Johns on a long list of baits. That much was already confirmed before she even came to ESU. Fury had given her a different task; going after John was just her personal endeavour.

Something she was glad to follow through with.

’I expected him to play innocent about the Kraven part, but he doesn’t exactly fear being exposed for having powers.’ Still, everyone had secrets they didn’t want to expose. If he didn’t show fear, it only meant that she hadn’t even scratched the surface.

’There is something bigger that he is hiding.’ She wanted to sink her teeth in it like she was nibbling on his thumb.

"What is your real task then?" John could only think of Gwen. Was Natasha sent here to observe her for the Avenger initiative? Or was she trying to make him think that?

You will have to figure that out on your own. I believe in you. She wrote with a bit of mischief in her eyes. Or you could get the details out of me by force.

I’ll have you know that torturing me will get you nothing; I am, however, very weak to pleasure. Wink wink. She pressed her tongue against his thumb, wrapping her lips around it. Natasha leaned back, positioning her ass onto his crotch. I’ve always been curious what it’s like to ride a bull. Feels like it’ll be a fascinating experience, no?
