...

’Strength that is beyond human, precise movements, and unbelievable ability to read attacks.’ Fury felt like he was watching a super soldier on gear.

But that wasn’t even the most impressive part about this young man.

All of it reminded him of the incident 5 months ago. It was like he had seen that green monster, but in a human, more contained, form. Even if General Ross seemed to feign ignorance, Fury would know the truth the moment they got a blood sample.

It was a good thing he had put Natasha on the case; she had already built a rapport with the person in question. And because of her following him, they had found him before things got out of hand.

’Is it too late to say that I already have a few strands of his hair?’ Natasha deadpanned while putting on the stuffy hazmat suit again.

The compound was still present near John, as nothing could get close enough to clean it. And truthfully, Natasha had discarded the hair strands she had swiped from John during classes, after he asked her to do so.

The bigger problem now was that any more than this would put her on Fury’s radar. Between this and making calling SHIELD out just for him, John was truly making her bend over backwards for him.

’Why can’t one have free things in this world?’ Even then, she preferred it this way.

With a titanium alloy syringe, because all the others bent out of shape going near him, Natasha entered the glass box with a sigh. She approached John one step at a time.

John’s height hadn’t grown, but his muscles seemed a bit larger. Even then, the projected weight for him had shot past 120 kgs. Honestly, just watching the scans had reinforced her confidence in their deal.

This wasn’t a normal human body. Whatever changed or enhanced it could help her as well.

’His arms though...’ Looking at the size of his forearms and biceps, he could very well break someone’s back with an enthusiastic hug.

"Hot..." She muttered while observing the definition on that chest.

"Come again, Agent?" Maria’s words came in from the earpiece.

"Temperature. It’s hot." Natasha’s brow didn’t even move.

She wasn’t lying about the inside of the glass cage being hotter than outside. Still, with a deep breath, she stepped forward.

And the moment she stepped into the range, she understood the pressure others were speaking about. It was like pushing against a steel wall, not just with her body, but with her mind as well. Especially heavy on the mind.

Another thing that the others didn’t note was that the air and the ground itself were trembling under this invisible energy emanating from John’s body.

’How many more secrets does he have?’ Sweat poured down her face as she stepped closer, gripping the syringe. Even though she had to cross the 5-meter mark, it felt like she was scaling a vertical wall. Thankfully, she stood right next to John now, facing the energy head-on with extreme focus.

Even if it was hard, she had still somehow made it to him.

"Collecting sample now." She announced for the sake of record-keeping and moved the syringe towards John’s right hand.

As much as she wanted to act and pass out, with Fury watching, that was out of the question. She hoped John would give her a little help if he didn’t want his DNA taken.

And the next moment John’s hand grasped at her wrist.

"Oh shi—!" Natasha was lifted off the floor like a twig in a storm.

One moment her feet were on the floor and the next instant her face was about to give the floor, and the reaper, a very intimate kiss.

And inside John’s mind, things had been a bit chaotic.

Since the wave of exhilaration had swallowed him whole, John had allowed his body to go along with the flow of this ocean. The scorching hot water kept crashing into his body.

It felt like he was a heated piece of iron on the anvil and these violent surges were hammers. They were forming his body and mind in the perfect condition little by little, but he didn’t let it change what he was beneath all that.

What was this perfect condition? John had understood that with how itchy his back and brain got over time. His back muscles were tensing and coiling about as his entire body had started to become heavier, more refined.

His mind had changed; he felt calmer. His thoughts were getting clearer. And with that clear mind, he had grasped the last remaining form of Haki.

It had always been there, but he couldn’t reach it because of the walls he had built. But now, he had grasped it while swinging this whirlpool.

He could already see it in action as well. Even if he was unconscious, he could still picture the surroundings of his real body a bit too clearly because of his itching brain.

With Adaptoid dismantled and Task Master gone, John had little to worry about. That was until Natasha arrived with SHIELD. Honestly, he didn’t want to involve the whole of SHIELD, but this mess was a bit too much for Natasha alone.

’And it is about time to make contact with them as well.’ John sighed as the researchers tried to take his blood samples, only to fall because of the raging Conqueror’s Haki exuded from his joyful body.

It wasn’t that big of a deal for them to get a sample, but John mostly didn’t want his data getting into Hydra’s hands. One ethically and morally challenged organization on his tail was more than enough.

Still, if they wanted it so badly, they’d have to earn it. Even if they did get the sample, at the end of the day, he was still biologically human. It was the perfect moment to pull the ’I am built different’ card.

’At this point, I don’t think they see me as a human; I wouldn’t either.’ John chuckled.

His body was almost done assimilating with the fully awakened Hanma bloodline. Honestly, it felt quite good. The one thing he was thankful for was that he wasn’t becoming a muscle monster even now.

His muscles and frame had grown, that was for sure, but he still wasn’t in the realm of proportions the fighters from the Baki manga had. Even then, his power had increased drastically.

In the Hanma Bloodline, the members seemed to have their own evolution paths.

’Maybe this is my own path.’ John was almost about to wake up when Natasha stepped in.

So far, his body had only responded to clear intent of harm that anyone sent his way to increase the burst of Haki. Even the researchers and agents still wanted to put a syringe in him, so it counted as intent to harm.

But Natasha seemed relaxed. Maybe she didn’t plan to put the syringe in him because of what he had said before. Even then, he wasn’t surprised that she made it to him, while facing the blast of Conqueror Haki.

Just as she stopped in front of him, the intent to harm, to put the syringe in his arm, became clear. Seemed like she had been concealing it the entire time.

’She’s a real handful.’ He shook his head internally while grasping her hand.

"What are you doing?" With the bright lights piercing his half-open eyes, John groaned a bit while massaging his temple with his left hand.

"You..." Natasha had this incredulous look on her face, glancing at her hand and at her feet, which were still solidly on the floor. "Not a morning person, are you?"

"Depends on who’s waking me up." He smirked, his eyes already adjusting to the light glaring through the glass cage.

"This is quite the setup." He felt like a monkey in a zoo with the way these twenty people were staring at him.

"Well, we tried." Natasha shrugged as he let go of her reddening wrist.

Before the assimilation, this might’ve pissed him off, but now he didn’t really care. And it wasn’t like they were evaluating him; it was a look of awe.

’Has my brain been messed up in a different way now?’ John let out a tired sigh.

’I was sure he threw me to the ground; what happened?’ Natasha looked at John’s unreadable face, a curious smile on her lips. And he matched her eyes too, probably looking at something only he understood.

"If you two have had your moment, could you give me some of your time as well?" At last, Nick Fury interrupted with a courteous smile and continued with a not-so-courteous tone. "If not, I can wait till you have finished your business."

"How understanding of you. I am hungry, so let’s talk over food." John walked towards the glass door, and without stopping for a moment.

The glass bowed around him for a heartbeat, stretching over his body like plastic, before exploding outward in a shower of glittering shards.

Fury stood under the shower with a mild frown as John stood in front of him. That was a missile-proof glass he walked right through.

"And get me a T-Shirt. It’s kinda cold today."
