Chapter 35: Goodbye, Hulk
"I didn’t expect you to actually drive that big guy away."
Watching the military leave in pursuit of the Hulk, Coulson could not help feeling a little surprised as he arrived with Wanda and Pietro.
S.H.I.E.L.D. also had data on the Hulk, and that data was constantly being updated. It had completely surpassed the limits of humanity.
Coulson had to admit that even if his idol Steve Rogers were still alive, he would not be able to stand against the green giant. But Orion Cross had done it, and it seemed like he had not even used his full strength.
"I think you’d better remind the military not to let large wild animals like that into the city in the future."
Orion Cross patted the dust off his body and offered a suggestion.
He was about to settle down in this city, and he really did not want two huge guys suddenly showing up outside his house one day and throwing a dance party.
"That’s right. They really should be warned."
Coulson put away his smile and nodded seriously.
The Hulk would not transform in the city for no reason. It had definitely been caused by the military attacking him first.
The military clearly knew that the Hulk would cause massive destruction after transforming, yet they still chose to launch a brainless frontal assault. Even if S.H.I.E.L.D. said nothing, other senators would probably move to impeach someone over it.
Do not forget, New York was an economic center.
Which senator did not have some industry here?
"I was just mentioning it."
"Speaking of which, is there a car coming to pick us up?"
Orion Cross helped Wanda carry the bag in her hands, looked around, and asked.
Seeing the bag in Orion Cross’s hand, Coulson’s expression instantly changed. He immediately turned to look at the crashed Quinjet.
This operation had not only cost him a Quinjet, but all the "local specialties" he had brought back from the other world had also been destroyed with it.
At the S.H.I.E.L.D. building, Nick Fury put down the work in his hands and had his subordinates prepare coffee and desserts in the reception room ahead of time.
"Boss, are you preparing to receive the Secretary-General?"
Maria Hill placed a stack of documents on the table and casually made a sarcastic remark.
"Just meeting a friend..."
"What clearance level?"
Hill directly interrupted Nick Fury, crossing her arms as she looked at him.
"Level Ten, but you can look into it beyond your clearance."
Nick Fury smiled awkwardly, straightened the corners of his clothes, and paused when he reached the door. "I suggest you come meet this old friend of mine too."
At this stage, Coulson was merely qualified to become one of his trusted subordinates, while Maria Hill had already earned his trust. So in essence, Nick Fury was more willing to let Hill come into contact with Orion Cross.
In fact, if Hill had not been unable to leave because of a special mission over the past two months, Coulson would never have been the one sent to Sokovia to search for traces of him.
"Fine, then."
Hill raised an eyebrow slightly and followed behind Nick Fury toward the reception room.
Inside the reception room, Orion Cross and the others were drinking coffee and enjoying afternoon tea.
Of course, Coulson did not receive such treatment. He could only stand quietly off to the side and watch.
"Agent Coulson, you can go handle your other missions."
As soon as Nick Fury entered, he glanced at Coulson standing there and spoke.
He had just received the report and learned that all the specialties Coulson had brought back from another universe had been destroyed along with the Quinjet. He was so angry he almost cursed out loud.
Nick Fury had received the notification last night and had immediately gathered a team of scientists to study the otherworldly items. In the end, today Coulson told him everything was gone? Was that not screwing him over?
Fortunately, Coulson had mentioned that aside from him, the two siblings following Orion Cross had also bought quite a few things in the other world.
If they really wanted to research them, they could only think of a way to obtain them from the siblings.
"I remember you don’t like coffee."
Nick Fury’s lips curved slightly as he pulled out a chair and sat down.
Maria Hill, who had entered behind him, stood to the side, seriously observing Orion Cross and preparing to analyze his behavior and personality.
"Oh, this isn’t coffee. I had them switch it to hot cocoa."
Orion Cross took a sip and looked up as he spoke.
"Let’s get straight to the point. I need you to join us."
Nick Fury stared at Orion Cross with his one eye.
"Straightforward. Then I’ll be straightforward too." Orion Cross clapped once. "I refuse."
"Why?"
"I can solve your housing problem."
"These two children can also be immediately arranged into the best elementary school."
Nick Fury pointed at Pietro and Wanda beside them and began negotiating.
"That’s something you have to do anyway. Otherwise, why do you think I came here?"
Orion Cross laughed and replied.
"Then what are your conditions?"
Nick Fury lowered his stance and asked.
It had already been more than ten years since he first had the idea of forming the Avengers. He had stayed up so long over it that all his hair was gone, yet there was still not even a shadow of the team.
Nick Fury was now truly unable to hold on anymore. He had already given up on pride to the point of wanting to recruit the Hulk, a being wanted by the military. That made Orion Cross, who had broken out of a seal, even more impossible to ignore.
"No matter what, I won’t join right now."
Orion Cross shook his head. He was not stupid. The Avengers did not have a single member right now. If he joined, would he not become the only tool man?
"However... we can switch to another form of cooperation."
Orion Cross suddenly thought of something and spoke.
