Chapter 37: Assigned a Driver: Skye

"The house has been arranged, and the car has been driven into the garage for you."

After taking a phone call, Nick Fury raised his head and looked at Orion Cross. "Do you want a driver?"

"Do you think I know how to drive?" Orion Cross asked back.

A trace of awkwardness flashed across Nick Fury’s face. He had almost forgotten that Orion Cross was essentially an "ancient person." He had been sealed away for so long before breaking free. How could he possibly know how to drive?

"Fine. I’ll arrange for a rookie agent to act as your driver. She’ll call you when the time comes..."

Halfway through his sentence, Nick Fury awkwardly remembered that Orion Cross did not seem to even have a phone number.

What the hell...

Nick Fury took a deep breath and turned to look at Hill. "Help me get a brand-new agent phone."

"Three," Orion Cross said.

"Fine... three."

Nick Fury gritted his teeth. Why... why did he suddenly feel like he had become a complete sucker?

Hill turned and left, heading straight to the logistics department to bring back three brand-new agent phones that had just left the factory, without any programs or surveillance installed.

"Since I’ve agreed to so many of your requests, I have one request as well."

Nick Fury watched as Orion Cross and the other two fiddled with their phones, then suddenly spoke in a serious tone. "If the Hulk, that big guy you encountered today, appears on the streets of New York again, I hope you can step in and stop him."

"Fine."

Orion Cross snapped his fingers and nodded in agreement.

"Then, Hill, take the three of them to Queens first."

Seeing Orion Cross agree, Nick Fury immediately let out a sigh of relief.

"Let’s go, kids."

Hill smiled at Pietro and Wanda.

"To be honest, I don’t want to go to school."

Pietro stuffed the phone into his pocket and followed her. "I want to be a special consultant too. Do you have any training here that can awaken superpowers?"

"No."

Hill was speechless. This was truly a child’s naive fantasy. If they really had the ability to cultivate superpowered individuals, would the Director have worried himself bald?

Decades ago, they had gone through all kinds of effort just to produce one Steve Rogers. Even now, a second person capable of carrying the banner still had not appeared.

How could superheroes appear that easily?

"Just go to school properly. There will always be a chance."

Orion Cross patted Pietro on the shoulder and spoke.

Unlike Wanda, if Pietro did not have the Mind Stone to activate him, it would be very difficult for him to awaken and become Quicksilver.

As for the Mind Stone, it was probably still in Thanos’s hands right now. Pietro would likely only be able to awaken his superpower after Loki, the equipment deliveryman, appeared.

But that was hard to say. Orion Cross’s abilities were changing with each passing day. Maybe tomorrow, he would complete some mission in New York and obtain an item that could awaken people’s superpowers.

"Speaking of missions..."

Thinking of this, Orion Cross suddenly felt his head ache.

[Hulk Series Mission: Strongest Defensive Gear: Steal the Hulk’s pants.]

Fortunately, it would refresh in a month. Otherwise, Orion Cross really would not be able to make up his mind to do something so lacking in integrity.

Putting everything else aside, the instant he stole the Hulk’s pants, he might end up getting a sty.

After Hill left with Orion Cross’s group, Nick Fury took Coulson, who was still completely unaware that he was about to be punished, to a sealed area on the basement floor of the building.

"Director, you want to recruit that person and have her act as Orion Cross’s driver and bodyguard?"

Inside the elevator, Coulson looked at his superior with slight surprise.

That person had originally been a talent he had taken a liking to and was preparing to recruit under him. She was just not quite ready yet. He had not expected his superior to cut in first.

"That’s right."

Nick Fury spoke with a stern face. "If it were Tony Stark, the agent we sent would have to be skilled in combat techniques such as hand-to-hand fighting and firearms. But he doesn’t need that kind of protection. He needs protection in another area."

"Network security."

The elevator doors slowly opened. In the room outside the elevator, an Asian woman was rapidly typing on a laptop.

Hearing the sound of the elevator, the Asian woman hurriedly closed the laptop, looking somewhat panicked.

"I only hacked into the New York Police Department’s network before to check some citizen records. You can pretty much let me go now, right?"

Skye hugged the silver-white laptop and looked warily at Nick Fury and Coulson.

"Girl, I need you to join us," Nick Fury said seriously.

"He’s your top boss? The Director of that Homeland something-something Bureau?"

Skye looked at Coulson and asked.

"That’s right," Coulson nodded.

"I refuse."

Skye rejected him without the slightest hesitation.

"Boss, we don’t lack expert hackers. Why not choose someone else? She’s right. She only made a simple intrusion. Plenty of people can do that."

Coulson frowned slightly and quietly suggested this to Nick Fury.

He did not know Orion Cross’s true identity, but someone who could travel to other dimensions, was friends with the leader of some mage faction, and had the highest Level Ten classification... how could they let an "amateur" hacker protect him?

He wanted to recruit Skye as a subordinate only because she already had this level of talent at such a young age. After a few years of training, she would be able to accomplish something.

"You’re only seeing the surface."

Nick Fury suddenly spoke. At the same time, an old fox’s smile appeared on his face as he walked up to Skye. "Indeed, if it were only your previous illegal actions, you could leave now..."

"Then I’m leaving."

Skye felt a chill run down her spine under Nick Fury’s stare and immediately hugged her laptop, preparing to leave.

"But!"

Nick Fury stopped her and pointed at the computer in her arms. "What were you looking at just now? Do I need to remind you?"

"You... entrapment?!"

Skye froze when she heard that, then immediately understood, revealing a furious expression.
