(Author’s POV)

"So~ ... may I?" Elio asked for her permission, his eyes trembling.

Myra didn’t waste any time and gave him her hand. When Elio held it, Myra felt the tremor resonating from their contact. The majestic royal prince of Lionheart Kingdom was nervous because of her. He paused, the ring balanced between them, waiting for the final and most important moment of their lives.

Just as the cold metal brushed against the tip of Myra’s ring finger, a heavy thudding sound boomed from above, startling them thoroughly. Everyone present looked at the sky, which had now turned grey and ominous. Myra felt her heart thumping against her rib cage, her eardrums ringing, and her hair stood on end. Warning sirens were flaring in her brain, telling her that something wasn’t right.

She tried to grab hold of Elio’s arm, but before she could, a thunderstroke crashed between them, throwing them apart. The spot where they had been standing just a moment ago was cracked open.

Elio, because of his sheer strength and combat skills, steadied himself before colliding with the pillar. But the same couldn’t be said for Myra. She lurched from the impact, her body flying backwards.

Myra’s eyes trembled when she saw her soul getting separated from her body. She floated midair; her spirit passed through the giant pillar, but her body didn’t. Her head and back rammed right into the limestone column, blood gushing down from the back of her head instantly.

Elio screamed for her, his throat producing a gruff howl, "MYRAAAAAAAAAAAAA~~~~~~ ...." Forgetting about everything else, he rushed towards her.

A painful groan escaped the Myra who was lying on the ground, "Arghh~ ...." as she opened her eyes slightly.

Elio reached her and took her into his arms, his eyes bloodshot, his voice shivering and urgent, "Myraaaa~ .... Myra~ .... listen to me. Stay with me. Keep your eyes open. Nothing will happen to you. I won’t let anything happen to you. Please, please~~~~ .... stay with me."

Myra hummed exhaustingly, though her mind was showing signs of slipping away. Her vision was hazy and partially blurry.

Elio shouted, angry, "HEALER~ .... SOMEONE CALL THE HEALER." But the crowd was already running awry because of the sudden powerful attack.

Just when he was about to take her to the healer himself, the woman in the emerald outfit came dashing their way, her face etched with feigned tension. "Brother Elio, it’s the Cursed Hound Hyenas. They are the ones behind this attack." She glanced at Myra, who was on the verge of losing consciousness, then added, "This place isn’t safe anymore. We need to get her out of here."

"Hound Hyenas~ .... how in the hell did they breach the protection barrier? They were in the holding cells," Elio scowled, furious.

"I don’t know~ ....," the woman shook her head repeatedly. As she finished her words, another bolt of lightning struck a few meters away from them, turning the floor charcoal and ashen. She screamed, "AAaAAAAAAaaaa," and covered herself while Elio shielded Myra.

Elio’s eyes glowed a shade of ferocious red as he barked, "Leticia, take the crown princess to the healer immediately. I will deal with them myself."

The woman named Leticia didn’t dawdle in the least. She quickly took Myra from his arms. Elio glanced at Myra with a heavy, disconsolate stare, then at his sister, "Go~ ... get her to safety."

Leticia hummed, murmuring under her breath, "Gladly." Elio didn’t catch it; his mind was already on how to crush the hound hyenas who were now descending. The Myra who was now in Leticia’s grasp was too out of sorts to know anything, but the spirit Myra looked at it all from a third-person point of view. She even saw a wicked grin tugging at Elio’s sister’s lips.

She screamed, "NOOO~~~~ .... don’t let her take me away. ELIO~~~ ... ELIOOO~~~~~ ...." But her voice only reached deaf ears. No one could hear her, no one could see her. A few minutes ago, she was the main character of the story. Now she wasn’t even the side one. She was reduced to a mere bystander who could do nothing.

Leticia dragged Myra’s body roughly, her face contorted as she hissed, her voice low, "You shameless bitch, how dare you try to drag my brother, the crown prince of Lionheart, down with your filthy origin. He is someone who is destined for greatness and you~ ... just some worthless stray he found in the woods. I warned you before to leave him quietly, didn’t I; otherwise, the consequences would be dire. But~ ... you won’t just listen. Now, see what is happening because of you. You brought this upon yourself. I have already arranged everything for your afterlife."

The soul heard every syllable she uttered. The malicious intent was practically dripping from her tongue. She could see Leticia had no intention of taking her to the healer or a safe place. She floated and tried to free her body from that evil woman’s hold, but her hand didn’t make any contact.

Soon a portal opened right in front of the two women, as hound hyenas poured out of it in large numbers, circling them. Leticia said, her voice venomous, "You whore~ ... your worthless life ends now." She signalled the leader, who raised an eyebrow in amusement. She then quickly changed her tone, feigning fright, quivering, her voice loud, "NOO~ .... don’t do anything to us. No~ .... NOOO~~~ ...."

The drooling leader smirked and approached them, his steps slow and deliberate, his fellow hyenas closing in as well. He said, "Lioness, I brought a special weapon just for you. Enough to shatter your body and destroy your soul. Hope you will enjoy it." He took out a dagger, red and orange flames blazing from it.

Myra peered with her eyes ever so slightly; She had no strength left in her body, and her head was buzzing. She could tell her end was near. She knew she was not definitely making this. She called Elio’s name one last time, her voice broken and extremely low, "El~ ... Eli~oooooo ...."

Elio sensed the unease and dashed towards them.

The leader raised the dagger to aim for Myra’s heart, but as he plunged the weapon down, Elio threw himself between them, his back the hit. The flamed metal burned his precious, divine wings and screwing deep into his heart, piercing a hole in his back. He coughed up blood, staining Myra’s ivory wedding dress into a deep shade of red.

Myra’s eyes expanded in horror. "ELIOO~~~ ...." He shouted with all the strength that was left in her.

A blood curdling scream tore through both Leticia and the spirited Myra simultaneously, "NOOOO~~~~~ .... ELIOOOOO~~~~~ ...."

Elio only smiled sorrowfully. He touched her face to wipe the tears from her cheeks and said, his voice utterly hoarse, he was suppressing his pain, "Myrah~~~~ don’t cry, my love. Didn’t I~ ... didn’t I sa~y, I don’t want to be in a world where you do not exist? In our next life and the ones after that, promise me you will be with me as my~ .... mate~ ...."

Myra’s head wobbled as she nodded, "I~ ... I promise. We will be together in this life and all eternity. Eli~ ... please~ ...." She was a sobbing mess now.

Elio’s face brightened as a flickering candle flame that was about to go out He let out a weak breath as his hand slipped away; his body went limp. He fell to the ground with a loud, resonating thud.
