Chapter 54: Returning to the Peak, Su Qinghe’s Choice of School?
Sensing a gaze, Gu Yifan frowned slightly and turned to look in its direction.
He saw Han Ning staring at him with a strange look in her eyes.
Their eyes met.
Han Ning’s face flushed slightly, but she quickly recovered her composure!
"Hmph!"
She huffed, turning her head away and refusing to look at Gu Yifan again.
She looked just like a peacock that had won a dance-off, the very picture of haughtiness!
Gu Yifan: "..."
’What’s this girl’s deal?’
’So bizarre!’
Gu Yifan thought, at a loss for words.
He truly had no idea what to make of Han Ning’s recent behavior!
But at least she wasn’t "pestering" him anymore!
’This is great!’
After turning away from Gu Yifan, Han Ning grumbled to herself, ’That rotten Gu Xiaofan really knows how to play it cool. He still hasn’t come to talk to me!’
’Hmph!’
’Petty jerk!’
’If you’re going to ignore me, I’ll ignore you too. Let’s see how long you can last!’
With that, she went back to reading her book, ignoring everything else!
...
Time flew by. In the blink of an eye, a month had passed since Gu Yifan’s rebirth.
Ever since he’d gotten permission from his homeroom teacher to skip the evening self-study sessions, Gu Yifan had spent nearly all of his time outside of regular classes with Su Qinghe over the past month.
By now, his grades had improved by leaps and bounds. He’d gone from having forgotten everything to returning to his former peak—or rather, he’d already surpassed the peak of his past life!
Although he hadn’t proven it in a monthly exam yet, the signs of his improvement were already beginning to show in regular quizzes.
Su Qinghe was also very surprised by Gu Yifan’s massive improvement.
But then she remembered his grades hadn’t been bad before, and she accepted it without a second thought.
"Phew..."
In the library’s study room, Gu Yifan set down his senior-year, second-semester English textbook and let out a long breath.
Today, with just three days of validity left on the system’s Divine-level Learning Ability Card, he had finally finished relearning every subject from all three years of high school.
And he hadn’t just skimmed through it; he had thoroughly and completely mastered all the high school material!
At this point, aside from the essay in Chinese and the listening comprehension in English—two unpredictable components—he was confident he could get a perfect score on any other subject, no matter what questions they threw at him.
’And I still have three days. If I use this time to nail down the Chinese essay and English listening comprehension, then I’ll be invincible!’
’I might not get a perfect score on the essay, but getting a forty-eight or forty-nine will be no problem at all!’
’As for English listening, a perfect score is a given!’
’So!’
’In the next monthly or mock exam, if I feel like it, I can probably knock Su Qinghe from her unshakable first-place spot down to second, shattering her ’legendary’ reign at the top.’
’Can’t be helped!’
’I’m just that confident!’
’I want to be modest, I really do, but my abilities just won’t allow it!’
Sitting beside him, Su Qinghe saw the corners of his mouth curl into a slight smile and looked at him with a bewildered expression.
"Are... are you okay?"
she asked in a small, timid voice.
"Huh?"
The expression on Gu Yifan’s face froze. He turned to glance at Su Qinghe, feeling a little embarrassed.
"Ahem, ahem."
He faked a couple of coughs and changed the subject. "So, Qinghe, what time is it?"
"It’s nine-thirty."
Su Qinghe glanced at her phone and answered matter-of-factly.
"Oh, right."
"Then let’s call it a day!"
Seeing that his attempt to change the subject had worked, Gu Yifan thought for a moment before speaking.
"Okay."
Su Qinghe nodded.
At their current academic level, it didn’t really matter whether they studied anymore.
For the next two months, all they needed to do was occasionally review and solidify their knowledge.
To put it arrogantly, the college entrance exam was already in the bag for both of them.
The two of them packed up their things and left the school library.
"Qinghe, what university are you planning to apply to?"
Gu Yifan asked suddenly as he walked Su Qinghe back to the girls’ dormitory.
"Huh?"
Su Qinghe was caught off guard by Gu Yifan’s sudden question.
After a moment of silence, she shook her head gently. "I... I don’t know either."
In truth, she originally had a school in mind, but after meeting Gu Yifan, her thoughts had changed.
"You don’t know?"
Gu Yifan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Su Qinghe thought for a moment, then tilted her head to look at Gu Yifan and asked softly, "What about you? Where are you planning to apply?"
"Me?"
"I haven’t decided yet!"
"But I’ll probably stay in Mountain City!"
"I’ll figure out the specifics after the exam, once I get my score!"
Gu Yifan said after a moment’s thought.
"Oh..."
Su Qinghe nodded without saying anything more.
However, she had already silently committed the name "Mountain City" to memory...
「A few minutes later.」
After saying goodbye to Su Qinghe in front of the girls’ dormitory, Gu Yifan glanced at the time. It was only around 9:50, and the evening study session wasn’t over yet.
So, he turned and headed toward the senior academic building.
When he reached the Senior Class 1 classroom, it was completely silent. Everyone was engrossed in their studies, their heads buried in their books.
Gu Yifan circled around to the back of the classroom and slipped in quietly.
The physics teacher on duty, who was sitting at the podium reading a newspaper, glanced up and did a double take when he saw who it was.
Gu Yifan gave him a small wave, and the physics teacher nodded before returning his attention to his newspaper, not bothering with him further.
The homeroom teacher had already given all the subject teachers a heads-up that this fellow, Gu Yifan, had been excused from the evening study session and that they shouldn’t worry about him.
So, while the physics teacher had been surprised to see him, he didn’t intervene. As long as Gu Yifan didn’t disturb the other students, it was fine.
Gu Yifan went to his seat and sat down. He glanced at Wang Zibo in the seat in front of him and saw the guy scribbling seriously on a piece of scratch paper. ’Looks like tutoring with me this past month has actually paid off for that son of a bitch!’
Gu Yifan nodded to himself.
That’s right!
For the past month, Wang Zibo had been joining Gu Yifan and Su Qinghe at the library every afternoon for study sessions. He just had to return to the classroom when the evening self-study period began.
It couldn’t be helped!
After all, *he* didn’t have a father who was a deputy director!
Seeing how focused he was, Gu Yifan didn’t have the heart to disturb him.
So, out of boredom, he sat at his desk and began spinning his pen. The gel pen twirled rapidly between his fingertips, dancing like a fluttering butterfly.
CLATTER—
BRRRING— BRRRING—
The pen fell, and at that exact moment, the bell signaling the end of the evening study session rang.
"Class dismissed,"
the physics teacher called out to the class, then picked up his briefcase and walked out of the room.
...
