Chapter 500 - 495: Bratty Kids
She drove to the Grant Group.
Standing beneath the office building, she tilted her head back to look at the Grant Group headquarters. Suddenly, a sense of pride, clearer than ever before, swelled within Jean Grant. All because the Sect Leader of the Grant Group was her brother, and that Sect Leader was a Grant.
She took the elevator to the entrance of Quentin Grant’s office. When Secretary Lynch saw her, he immediately came forward. "Miss Grant."
"I need to see my brother."
"Allow me to inform him."
Jean Grant nodded. "Okay."
Secretary Lynch knocked, went inside for a moment, and then came out. "The boss says you can go in."
Jean Grant pushed the door open and found Quentin Grant busy with work. He looked up at her. "What brings you here?"
Jean Grant closed the door and called out, "Brother."
"Hm?"
"If I can never get pregnant, and I get divorced because of it, would you be willing to support me for the rest of my life, Brother?"
Quentin Grant’s hands froze. He looked up at her and saw that Jean Grant’s eyes were red. He stood up. "What’s wrong?"
"I asked you a question. Please answer me."
"Of course. It doesn’t matter if you can’t have children. Even if you could, I’m more than capable of supporting you for the rest of your life. You’re my sister."
The tears in Jean Grant’s eyes instantly streamed down. She slowly began to lose control.
Whether it was because she had been through too much, or for some other reason, she suddenly dropped to her knees in front of Quentin Grant with a THUD, sobbing uncontrollably. "Brother, I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry."
Quentin Grant looked down at her. "Get up."
She shook her head. "There’s something I have to tell you. I came to your office and secretly looked at the bid numbers. I tried to come a second time, but I couldn’t get in. It was Nicholas who told me to do it. He was always whispering in my ear, telling me to help him make the Grant Group change hands."
Quentin Grant was silent. After a moment, he spoke. "Why are you choosing to tell me this now?"
"Because I realize now that you’re more important than him, Brother. Because you’re the one who will always tolerate me and never abandon me."
"Stand up. The people of the Grant Family don’t have a habit of casually dropping to their knees."
Jean Grant stood up and sat in a chair. "I went to the hospital yesterday. The doctor said that because I’ve had so many abortions, my uterine wall is too thin, and I might not be able to get pregnant in the future. Today, I asked him what he would do if I couldn’t have children."
She sat there, the light gone from her eyes. "He told me he’s the only son of the Ainsworth Family and he can’t be without an heir. He said if that’s really the case, he’ll have to marry someone else. It’s only now that I realize what an idiot I’ve been, but Brother, from this day on, I won’t fall for his sweet talk anymore."
Quentin Grant turned, put his hands in his pockets, and opened the window. After a long time, he finally said, "Are you going to divorce him?"
"I must divorce him." Jean Grant’s face was devoid of expression as she spoke these four words. "But not now. Because he’s already started making moves behind the scenes to take you down. I won’t let him succeed."
Quentin Grant sat back down in his seat. "Even without you, his skills aren’t nearly enough to shake the Grant Group."
"But, Brother, it’s not just him. A woman came to the house today, and I suspect she’s one of his accomplices. Also, he’s been getting close to Martin Grant, and he’s in contact with people from Grestin."
Quentin Grant let out a sigh. "Oh, Jean. You’ve always been stubborn, always fixated on one thing and refusing to listen to me. If you had listened, if you had just stayed with Ethan Ellsworth in the first place, none of this would have happened. You married Marlon Marshall—a flash marriage and a quick divorce—and he wouldn’t stop harassing you. You finally got rid of him, and then along came Nicholas Ainsworth, another one you were so sure about."
Jean Grant slumped onto the desk, her voice cold and weak. "Brother, even though I really want a child of my own, after hearing what he said, I’ve given up all hope. I’m just something he can throw away at any time. And if I get thrown away, there will be plenty of new women waiting for him. If I continue to be this foolish, then I’m truly beyond saving. I married two men, and it was the same both times. The happiness I always hoped to find in marriage seems to have been nothing but a fantasy. I’m going home."
She stood up and started to leave.
"Jean."
Jean Grant stopped and turned around. "Yes, Brother?"
"I saw the security footage. I already knew you came to my office to see the bid numbers. But I don’t blame you. You’ve made a lot of mistakes since you got married, and I’ve never blamed you for any of them. Because no matter what, you’re still my sister."
Jean Grant nodded tearfully and ran out of the office.
Quentin Grant picked up the coffee on his desk, his deep eyes darkening.
Nicholas Ainsworth...
Heh...
Holly Wood changed into her work clothes, checked the time, and then took the stairs up to Leon Lynch’s office floor. She pushed open the office door and found no one inside.
Just as she stepped inside, someone hugged her from behind.
A familiar scent.
Her pretty face flushed. "What are you doing hiding by the door?"
"I knew you were coming. I did it on purpose."
Holly Wood turned her head to look at him. "It’s five-thirty. Are you getting off work?"
"Yeah, I’m done for the day. I’m taking you somewhere in a bit," he said, putting on his suit jacket.
Holly Wood didn’t ask where they were going; she just followed him out of the office building and into his car.
The car stopped in front of a villa in a high-end residential complex.
The two of them got out of the car. Leon Lynch rang the doorbell, and a moment later, the gate slowly opened.
Holly Wood felt a little intimidated seeing the Men in Black. Leon Lynch took her hand. "It’s okay. Come in with me."
She nodded and stepped inside, only to be left completely speechless.
The villa’s courtyard was enormous.
And on both sides of the path were tall, unidentifiable trees with lush, green foliage. Not far from the trees were numerous pots of various flowers, and flanking the flowers were Men in Black, standing perfectly straight.
Every one of them was carrying a gun, their gazes fixed forward.
"Godfather, you’re here?" Elmer Grant ran out from behind a tree.
"Did you miss me?"
"Nope."
Leon Lynch then asked, "Why not?"
"Because you visit so rarely. Just when I start to remember you, I forget you all over again."
He couldn’t help but laugh. "Where’s your brother?"
"There." He pointed. On an open patch of ground not far away, a small figure was jogging.
Leon Lynch exclaimed, "Your brother is jogging?"
"It’s not just my brother; I have to run too. We also have to do the horse stance every day. Last time, it wore us out completely."
"Where’s your mommy?"
"Oh, she went out. She’s not home."
"What about your real dad?"
"In the living room, drinking beer."
Leon Lynch clenched his fist. "This is outrageous!"
He dashed into the living room. Quentin Grant had his legs propped up on the table, a can of beer in one hand and his other hand tapping away at a keyboard. A laptop was resting on his lap.
"Quentin Grant, what kind of father are you? They’re just little kids! What the hell are you training them for?"
Quentin Grant raised his beer to him. "Calm down. Getting excited is bad for your kidneys. Come on, have a seat. We can talk about this."
Leon Lynch sat beside him, looking at him. "Your sons are just over two years old. What are they doing jogging?"
Quentin Grant was completely unfazed. "This is called getting a head start. Only a man with an IQ as high as mine could produce sons with such high IQs. They may be just over two, but if you told anyone that, would they even believe you?"
"When you were little, did your mom treat you like this?"
Quentin Grant shook his head. "No. My mom didn’t want me to be like this from a young age. Her goal was to make me a man of wisdom, so she had me memorizing the *Three Hundred Tang Poems* at a very early age."
"Where’s Nora?"
"What do you want with my wife? Anything you need from her can usually be handled by me. No need to bother her."
Leon Lynch smiled faintly. "I want to talk to her about Aunt Flo. Can that be handled by you too? You don’t get a visit from her."
Quentin shot back, "Who says I can’t? If you want to meet my Aunt Flo, I can call my uncle right now and have him bring her over. But my aunt is over sixty this year. She’s an old lady, you know. I doubt you two would have much to talk about."
Leon Lynch said through clenched teeth, "Just stop making the kids run."
"It wasn’t me who made them run. Maybe the first time, I had them do the horse stance and run, but these past few days haven’t been on my orders."
Leon Lynch stood up. "I’m taking the two little treasures to the amusement park for a while, with my girlfriend."
Quentin Grant put down his beer. "You have a girlfriend?"
"Yeah. You’ve got such a death grip on Nora that I never stood a chance. What was I supposed to do, not get a girlfriend? Unless you’re willing to share Nora..."
Quentin Grant cut him off. "Don’t even think about it. That’s my woman..."
Leon Lynch gave him an I-knew-it look. "I’ll take the two little ones out to play. I’ll have them back by bedtime."
Quentin Grant said coolly, "The amusement park... you’d better not go."
"Why not?"
"Do you know about the five dead men found on Southmount last time?" Quentin Grant shot him a glance. "Your godsons led Monty to do that. You still dare to take them out?"
Upon hearing this, Leon Lynch broke out in a cold sweat.
’At such a young age...’
"Why did they kill people?"
So, Quentin Grant told him the whole story in detail.
After listening, Leon Lynch sighed. "When I get old, I won’t have to worry about being bullied. If my own biological son isn’t dutiful, I’ll have these two godsons of mine beat him until he can’t get up off the floor."
"Then you’d better tell them in advance not to beat the person to death."
"I’ll just ask them if they want to go, you don’t need to worry about it. I won’t let them kill anyone."
Quentin agreed. "If anything happens to my two sons, you’ll bring me your head as an apology."
He stood up and nodded. "No problem. Even if something happens to me, I won’t let a single thing happen to them."
"That’s for the best."
Leon Lynch walked out of the living room and found Holly Wood squatting down with the two little ones, talking about something that made the two kids look as happy as could be.
He walked over. "Would you two like to go to the amusement park with your godfather and god...mother?"
Dylan Grant asked doubtfully, "The old man said you could take us?"
Leon Lynch froze for a second, and when he realized the ’old man’ was Quentin Grant, he let out a loud, uncharitable laugh. Then, he nodded. "He said that as long as you want to go, he won’t stop you. He also said that if you two cause any trouble, I’ll have to bring him my head as an apology."
"Yay, yay! We’ll definitely make you bring him your head as an apology, Godfather!" Elmer Grant clapped.
Leon Lynch: "..."
After a long pause, he finally managed to spit out three words: "You little brats."
"You don’t even have little brats of your own."
"..."
