Chapter 440 - 437: A Bimbo’s Stupid Actions
Mr. Ainsworth and Sharon Ainsworth watched the two of them. Mr. Ainsworth remained silent, but Sharon couldn’t hold back. "Brother, have you forgiven her?"
Nicholas Ainsworth pulled out a chair for Jean Grant to sit, then sat down beside her and replied coolly, "What’s the alternative? Divorce?"
"Why can’t you get a divorce? If you do, plenty of women would be lining up to marry you."
Nicholas Ainsworth didn’t want to discuss the topic. "Enough. Stop worrying about my affairs. You’re not young anymore, either. It’s about time you seriously considered getting married yourself."
Sharon Ainsworth muttered sullenly, "There are only men who can’t get a wife, not women who can’t get married. A three-legged toad is hard to find, but two-legged men are a dime a dozen."
"Stop saying that. If they’re so easy to find, why don’t you bring one home for me to see? Sharon, a woman’s youth only lasts for a few years. Once you’ve squandered it, all you can do is watch others enjoy theirs. Just find a good man and get married."
"I have no desire to enter the prison of marriage right now. When I find someone suitable, I’ll bring him home for you to meet."
Wanting to avoid conflict, Jean Grant said nothing, but inwardly, she looked down on Sharon Ainsworth.
She had long heard rumors that Sharon had been kept by several men, and there was no way Nicholas didn’t know.
’As her brother, even he hasn’t said anything. My own relationship with Sharon has already soured, so it’s certainly not my place to comment.’
Sharon Ainsworth quickly finished her meal, slung her bag over her shoulder, and left.
Mr. Ainsworth, who hadn’t spoken a word, picked up his newspaper and went upstairs.
After he finished eating, Nicholas Ainsworth also left the house. Jean Grant saw him to the main gate.
Afterward, in a good mood, she turned around, went back to the bedroom, and went back to sleep.
A life like this left her quite satisfied.
She was woken up by a phone call from Nicholas Ainsworth.
"Nicholas, what is it?"
"..."
"Okay, I’ll change and head over."
Jean Grant immediately changed her clothes, then drove to the Grant Group Tower.
When Secretary Lynch saw her arrive, his mind raced, and he immediately stepped forward to stop her. "Miss Grant, what brings you here?"
"Is my brother not here?"
"President Grant is abroad. He’s not in."
"Oh. Well, I’m tired from walking. I’ll just go in and sit for a bit."
Secretary Lynch quickly blocked her way. "Miss Grant, I absolutely cannot let you do that. Please don’t make things difficult for me again. The last time I let you into President Grant’s office, I got chewed out. I absolutely cannot let you in this time, not unless President Grant himself agrees."
"I’m a member of the Grant Family. What? Are you afraid I’ll go in and steal corporate secrets?" Jean Grant lifted her chin arrogantly.
Although Secretary Lynch knew exactly what she was up to, he maintained a placating tone. "How could I dare to think such a thing? This is a rule set by President Grant. I’m just an employee. I have to do whatever the boss tells me. I don’t dare to disobey."
"Hmph. Call my brother right now. I refuse to believe he won’t let me in."
Secretary Lynch nodded. "Alright."
He took out his phone and dialed Quentin Grant’s number.
"Hello, President Grant. Your sister, Miss Grant, says she wants to rest in your office for a bit. What are your instructions?"
He put the call on speaker, and Quentin Grant’s voice came through. "Are there no other lounges in the entire Grant Group Tower? If you ever ask me such a stupid question again, you’d better consider the consequences!"
"Yes, yes, Boss. I’ll never ask you such a stupid question again." Secretary Lynch quickly hung up and said to Jean Grant, "Miss Grant, you heard him. If you need to rest, you can use my office or any of the other lounges. Take your pick. But our boss’s office is the only one that’s off-limits. Please understand."
Seeing that there was no way she was getting in, Jean Grant had to think of another plan. "What time do you get off work?" she asked.
"Eleven-thirty."
"Fine, I’ll go home and rest." She stepped into the elevator in her high heels, went directly to the restroom on the floor below, and sat there. It was still an hour until eleven-thirty. She would wait.
Secretary Lynch turned away, his expression cool and indifferent. Just as he reached the secretarial desk, another call came in from Quentin Grant.
"Is she gone?"
Secretary Lynch lowered his voice. "Boss, if I may be frank, Miss Grant’s excuse was terrible. I saw right through it."
"If she were that smart, do you think she’d make the same mistakes over and over without ever changing? It’s only because she’s my sister. If it were anyone else, I would have dealt with them long ago. Make sure security is in place when your shift ends. Keep an eye on things. There can’t be any incidents before I get back."
"Understood!"
Hanging up, Secretary Lynch sat there and sighed. ’Are they really siblings, born from the same mother? How can they be so different?’
Leon Lynch would occasionally check the security feed for the first floor. He had noticed that Holly Wood worked diligently from morning until the end of her shift every day. Moreover, when others couldn’t finish their tasks and left them for her, she never once complained.
However, this habit of checking the feed led him to discover something strange over the past few days.
Every day at eleven-thirty, right before their shift ended, a few of the first-floor cleaners would always call her into the women’s restroom. Half an hour later, she would come out. This had been happening for several days in a row.
He was curious about what they were doing in there.
The women’s restroom was always cleaned in the morning. This anomaly was a clear signal to Leon Lynch.
Holly Wood was being bullied.
He replayed the security footage from the past few days and discovered that every time she came out of the restroom, her gait was unnatural, and she always walked with her head down.
To find out what was really going on, today, after he saw them enter the restroom as usual, he left his office and went to the first floor.
By this time, everyone had either gone to lunch or gone home.
There was no one around the restroom area.
"Hurry up! Stop dawdling, or we’ll beat you to death right here."
"Yeah, our time is precious. Can you not drag your feet like this every day?"
"Dammit, can’t you be any faster! Keep this up, and we’ll give you a ’shower party’ today!"
Leon Lynch pushed open the door, and the scene inside stunned him.
Several women were perched on top of the stall doors, holding basins of water. Holly Wood was nowhere to be seen, which meant she had to be inside one of the stalls.
"What are you doing?"
The women panicked. They tumbled from their perches as the water basins crashed to the floor with a clatter, spilling water everywhere. It was a scene of chaos, with people falling over and crying out in pain.
He strode forward, pulled open a stall door, and saw Holly Wood sitting on the floor. Her clothes were torn and disheveled, and the red mark of a slap was visible on her face.
The women scrambled to their feet, soaked to the bone.
"I asked you, what were you doing."
"N-nothing. We were just talking to her."
"Get out. Go to HR and collect your pay." With that one sentence, he let them know they were fired.
Although the women were reluctant, they scurried away in disgrace.
He walked into the stall, crouched down, extended a hand, and said gently, "Get up."
Holly Wood slowly pushed herself up and fell into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
