Chapter 428 - 425: I’ll Make You Die an Ugly Death

After dinner, Claire Sinclair urged Sierra Ainsworth to go back to her room with Catherine Callahan to talk and get to know each other better.

They obediently went upstairs.

Upon entering Sierra Ainsworth’s bedroom, Catherine Callahan’s eyes lit up. The room was decorated in an exquisite and luxurious style.

She was someone who had seen her fair share of the world, but Sierra Ainsworth’s room truly stunned her.

"Hmph, the room’s not bad. Pack your things and move out. We have nothing to talk about."

Sierra Ainsworth replied coolly, "I have nothing to say to you either, do I, cousin?"

A slap immediately landed on her face. "What did you call me? Say it again!"

"Cousin."

Catherine Callahan looked at her. "It seems my mother still hasn’t taught you properly. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have a mouth that’s just begging to be slapped!"

Sierra Ainsworth lowered her head, walked to the desk, and began packing her things without another word.

She took her belongings to the room Claire Sinclair had arranged for her. It was an ordinary room. While not exactly shabby, it was nothing compared to the one she had lived in before.

Lying there, Sierra Ainsworth’s tears flowed uncontrollably as she sobbed silently. The sting on her face lingered, but the place that hurt most was her heart.

’It’s easy to open deceived eyes, but when someone’s heart is deceived, like my father’s, they’ll never wake up unless you stab them.’

’After all, Claire Sinclair’s imitation of my mother wasn’t just a slight resemblance—it was a perfect copy. Her mannerisms, preferences, and tone of voice were all identical.’

The door opened, and Claire Sinclair walked in with a cold expression before shutting it behind her.

She moved closer to Sierra Ainsworth, step by step, then viciously grabbed a handful of her hair, forcing her to lift her face. "You’d better not make that kind of mistake again. Otherwise, I’ll kill you, understand?"

Sierra Ainsworth said nothing.

"Understand?!" Claire Sinclair repeated, her voice harsh.

"I understand." Her reply was cold, her voice tinged with a long-standing indifference.

Claire Sinclair slowly released her and sneered. "Don’t act on your own impulses again. In this house, if you disobey me, I’ll make sure you die a miserable death. Your father has arranged a matchmaking meeting for you tomorrow night. Proactively ask to bring your sister along, do you hear me? And don’t dress up too nicely. No matter how pretty you are, you’re just there to be her foil."

"I understand."

Claire Sinclair gave her one last look and left the room.

She headed straight for the master bedroom.

Luna Ainsworth, who had just stepped out of the shower, looked at her. "Where did you go?"

"I just went to comfort Sierra. I was worried she might be upset."

Luna Ainsworth smiled. "She’s our daughter. What’s there to worry about? She’s not a little girl anymore, she’ll understand."

"Even if she is our daughter, we still have to consider her feelings." She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Ever since I got together with you, I’ve felt like the happiest woman in the world. Luna, I love you. I love you so much."

"Faye, me too," he said, holding her tight.

The smile on Claire Sinclair’s face stiffened for a moment.

Her hand slid inside his bathrobe. "I’m feeling restless, Luna. Let’s have another child. We can do it through IVF. I want to have another baby for you."

Claire Sinclair chose every word with great care. After all this time, she had grown quite used to it.

"We already have two daughters, and you’re over forty. Having another child would be a huge risk. I won’t let you take that chance. Things are fine as they are. Let’s not have any more."

Every time she brought up the topic, he gave the same answer, almost word for word.

"I know you’re just looking out for me, but..."

He pulled her down to lie beside him. "Alright, I forbid you from bringing this up again. I really don’t want you to have another child for me. Remember? When you gave birth to Sierra, your health was terrible. It improved inexplicably later on, but I still don’t want you to take that risk again. Aren’t things great as they are? Two daughters, a perfect family."

"But I just want to give you a son."

He turned on his side. "Faye, in my eyes, nothing is more important than you."

Claire Sinclair couldn’t say anything more. "Alright, let’s go to sleep."

She took the initiative and climbed on top of him. The lights were turned off, and soon the sounds of lovemaking filled the room.

Outside the bedroom door, Sierra Ainsworth stared silently at the closed door. Finally, she turned and slowly walked downstairs, barefoot. Every step was exceptionally difficult.

She went to the wine cellar alone and drank a great deal. In the end, she stumbled back to her room and slept until broad daylight.

「The next day」

She came down for breakfast wearing a very plain outfit. Luna Ainsworth frowned. "Wear something prettier. Go change."

"Dad, you can only tell if a person is shallow by how they treat someone who isn’t dressed up."

Claire Sinclair chimed in from the side.

"Right, right! What Sierra said makes perfect sense."

Luna Ainsworth had no choice but to say, "Fine, go on. Don’t be late."

Claire Sinclair gave Sierra Ainsworth a look, and she took the hint. "I’ll ask my sister to come with me, to help me size him up."

"That would be for the best. Go together," Luna Ainsworth said.

And so, Catherine Callahan, dressed like a fairy, and Sierra Ainsworth, dressed like Cinderella, arrived together at the matchmaking venue.

A certain upscale café.

When the two of them arrived, the man had not yet shown up.

"We’re right on time. Why is this guy late?"

"He’s never been on time for anything," Sierra Ainsworth said faintly.

"You know this guy we’re meeting?"

"We were in the same class in college."

Catherine Callahan grew irritated. "If you already know him, what’s the point of a matchmaking meeting? Couldn’t you just call him and ask if he’s interested or not?"

"The point is to let you meet him."

Catherine Callahan laughed. "One look at the contrast between our outfits makes it obvious. My standards are very high; not just any man is good enough for me."

Sierra Ainsworth didn’t want to talk to her any more than necessary, so she fell silent.

They waited for a long while, but the man still hadn’t arrived. Catherine Callahan’s patience wore completely thin. She told Sierra Ainsworth to call the man, but when Sierra said she didn’t have a phone, Catherine simply stood up and left the café.

She sat there alone. It was only in moments like this, away from that house, that she felt a sense of peace, saw the elegance in her surroundings, and noticed the blue of the sky.

Nora Ainsworth and Quentin Grant had already suspected Catherine Callahan. She had done too many bad things in the past. For someone with such a record who was already so suspicious, she was naturally the primary target of their doubts.

That was one reason. Another was that Catherine Callahan, like Quentin Grant’s godfather and godmother, lived in Draconia in Valeria. This was far too much of a coincidence.

Therefore, they hadn’t approached her directly yet, opting instead to observe her first.

Watching Catherine Callahan come out and leave, Nora Ainsworth said, "The girl who went in with her is still inside. I’m going to go feel her out."

Quentin Grant agreed. "Go on. I’ll wait for you here."

Nora Ainsworth got out of the car and entered the café. When she sat down across from Sierra Ainsworth, both she and Sierra were startled. A feeling of intense familiarity washed over both of them.
