Chapter 1495 - 1487: As Far as the Eye Can See, Everlasting (Part 8)
The old master handed the bulging red envelope to his grandson Daxton Lancaster. "Take it, this is your grandpa’s red envelope for you."
Back in those days when a ten-yuan bill was a big note, the old master’s red envelope held over ten thousand, so stuffed it looked like it would burst open any moment.
Daxton Lancaster received the red envelope with both hands. "Thank you, Grandpa!"
At the dining table behind them, Daemon Lancaster saw his grandfather give his cousin such a big red envelope, and his expression instantly turned ugly.
When he got married, Grandpa had only given him a thousand. It was generous, sure, but compared with his cousin, it was obvious at a glance who Grandpa was favoring.
Victoria Thornton didn’t care much. Their own family did business; she wasn’t bothered about this little bit of red envelope money.
The old master turned again and picked up another, still empty, red envelope. Violet Zimmerman was a bit puzzled. Was Grandpa going to give her a bankbook directly?
Just as she was wondering, the old master had already brought the red envelope to her, but didn’t hand it over. The old man looked at her, his face stern.
"Violet, this is the lifeblood of our Lancaster Family. Once you take it, you must manage the Lancaster Family well!"
Hearing the old master speak like that, Atlas Lancaster became even clearer on what was inside the red envelope. The Lancaster Family’s household was huge; all the valuables were kept in one room. What the old master was giving Violet was the key to that room, and this key symbolized the status of the Lancaster Family Head.
For more than twenty years, Atlas Lancaster had been fighting for the position of Family Head of the Lancaster Family, because the Family Head held absolute power over the family’s finances.
Even though they all worked for the company, what they received each month was just a salary.
The Lancaster Family was such a large clan, with countless businesses under its name—department stores, leather factories, shoe factories... Any one of those factories could turn a hefty profit in a year. All that money, however, was pooled together and handed over to Daxton Lancaster alone to allocate and manage. Anyone would be green with envy.
A sharp smack sounded from behind them; it might have seemed accidental, but in fact it was Daemon Lancaster, so furious he’d slammed his palm down on the table.
According to the Lancaster Family’s rules, the Family Head was to be inherited by the eldest grandson, and the lady of the house should be his wife. Yet the old master had...
How was he supposed to swallow that!
Although she didn’t know what was inside the red envelope, seeing the old master’s grave expression, Violet actually felt a little flustered. She turned her head, looked at Daxton Lancaster, and murmured, "Daxton?"
As the Lancaster Family Head, Daxton Lancaster had long known that once he took a wife, his grandfather would hand the Lancaster Family over to his wife to manage.
Seeing his newlywed wife looking to him for help, Daxton Lancaster smiled slightly and said, "Take it. It’s Grandpa’s intention."
With her husband having spoken, Violet accepted the red envelope with an easy conscience.
"Thank you, Grandpa. Don’t worry, I definitely won’t let you down!"
"Eh, good child!" The old master smiled in satisfaction and reached out to help Violet Zimmerman up.
Daxton Lancaster handed the red envelope the old master had given him to the servant standing behind him, but Violet’s he folded and tucked into his own pocket.
The couple then took up teacups to offer tea to their parents, and both elders gave them red envelopes.
When they offered tea to second uncle Atlas Lancaster, a small incident occurred. Second aunt Eva Hayes accepted the tea her nephew offered, but refused to take Violet’s.
Violet held up the teacup, watching second aunt sitting at the head seat, rubbing her temples and pretending to feel unwell, refusing to accept the tea for a long time. Anyone with eyes could see Eva was deliberately making things difficult.
"Oh dear, what’s this now? Is it your high blood pressure acting up? So dizzy..."
Eva Hayes reclined in her chair with her eyes closed. Daxton Lancaster’s phoenix eyes turned cold, displeasure filling his heart—after all, she was an elder.
The old master could also see that his second daughter-in-law was intentionally being difficult. His phoenix eyes narrowed, and just as he was about to speak, at the doorway, a young man ran in quickly.
