Joseph Lancaster put down his chopsticks and left. Violet Zimmerman also returned to her room. At the dining table, only Daxton Lancaster and Lucy Zimmerman remained.

Lucy Zimmerman picked up another piece of rabbit meat, eating it with delight. Chewing, she mumbled, "Brother-in-law, if they won’t eat it, we will. Look at them acting up, refusing to eat rabbit meat. I say they’re just being pretentious!

Next door, Old Xie’s family can’t even afford cornmeal mush, let alone meat!"

Seeing Daxton Lancaster’s expression also turned cold, Lucy Zimmerman quickly tried to defend her cousin, Violet Zimmerman, "Brother-in-law, don’t mind my sister. She’s just spoiled after marrying into the family, but she’s really not that bad."

"Lucy, I’ll have the driver take you to the station tomorrow!"

Violet Zimmerman stood on the stairs, planning to call the servants to wash the child’s diapers. Unexpectedly, she came out and overheard Lucy speaking ill of her.

"Sister, why are you kicking me out? I’ve already told Aunt I’d stay longer here with you."

Lucy Zimmerman turned her head, then looked back at Daxton Lancaster.

"Brother-in-law, do you welcome me staying longer to keep my sister company?"

Daxton Lancaster was about to return to his room, but something made him turn to look at the unhappy Violet Zimmerman with a smile that seemed not quite a smile, agreeing, "Sure, your sister is bored alone. Stay and keep her company."

"Thank you, brother-in-law!"

"Daxton, you!"

The sisters’ voices sounded almost simultaneously.

Violet Zimmerman, not expecting Daxton Lancaster to oppose her, held on to the railing and after saying "you," turned angrily back to her room.

"Brother-in-law, hurry up and eat before it gets cold." Lucy Zimmerman urged enthusiastically, completely ignoring Violet Zimmerman’s emotions.

After the meal, Lucy Zimmerman claimed to go for a walk outside to aid digestion, and left.

Daxton Lancaster returned to the room. Violet Zimmerman lay on the bed, back facing the door, clearly upset.

Daxton Lancaster approached the bed, looking down at Violet Zimmerman’s back, "Why didn’t you eat?"

"Little Gray died, I’m upset." Violet Zimmerman spoke frankly.

"Because Joseph gave it to you?" Daxton Lancaster asked directly, looking down at Violet Zimmerman’s back. The gentle man, when tense, could have a frighteningly cold face.

Violet Zimmerman suddenly turned, "What nonsense are you saying? Little Gray was raised by me, it’s like my child!"

"Ha!" Daxton Lancaster laughed coldly, looking down at Violet Zimmerman condescendingly, "You and Joseph really are a pair. You don’t eat rabbit meat, nor does he.

Violet, even your family’s foolish relative says there’s an affair between you two. Tell me, have you two done something behind my back again?"

Violet Zimmerman...

"Daxton, would you rather believe an outsider’s nonsense than your own wife?"

Daxton Lancaster sat down beside Violet Zimmerman, the mockery disappearing from his face, his eyes unfathomable.

"Violet, sometimes I think maybe I was wrong. I shouldn’t have let you look for Joseph in the first place. If it had been a stranger, perhaps you wouldn’t have feelings for him anymore."

Hearing this, Violet Zimmerman felt inexplicably guilty.

...

"Which house do you work in? What do you need?"

Sister Xu looked at the large-framed woman at the door, puzzled.

"Are you blind? Do I look like a servant? I’m the sister of your mistress. I’m Violet Zimmerman’s own sister!"

Lucy Zimmerman exclaimed unhappily, hands on her hips.

Sister Xu checked her out again but didn’t step aside, holding the door handle, she asked, "Do you have any business?"

"Of course, otherwise why would I be here. Move, I’m here to find Brother Joseph!"

Lucy Zimmerman forcefully pushed Sister Xu aside, swaggering inside, raising her voice, "Brother Joseph, I’m here!"

"Stop shouting. The young master went to the elder master’s house to eat!"

Sister Xu said impatiently, finally realizing who this troublesome person was. The morning incident had already spread through the household courtyard. It was known that the head wife’s cousin had fallen out with the second branch.

"Oh, then I’ll go find him!" Lucy Zimmerman turned to leave but then returned after two steps, "I better wait at home for Brother Joseph."

Her sister had instructed her not to wander around, plus that old witch seemed to dislike her, so she obediently waited in the house. Brother Joseph would return after eating.

Lucy Zimmerman plopped down on the sofa, and Sister Xu, unable to drive her away, glanced at her in displeasure and went on with her tasks.
