Chapter 1499 - 1491: As Far as the Eye Can See, Forever and Always (Part 12)
Without batting an eye, Daxton Lancaster looked at his brother, who was pretending to be oblivious, then glanced at his clueless new wife, and a certain emotion flashed across his slightly narrowed phoenix eyes.
As the head of the Lancaster Family, Daxton Lancaster bore many responsibilities. Although he was newly married, he didn’t give himself much time off and went to work right after sending Violet Zimmerman back to their residence.
Violet Zimmerman’s family was not in this city, and Daxton Lancaster hadn’t arranged any work for her, so she could temporarily only act as the Young Mistress of the Lancaster Family.
Over at Emerald Lake Garden, his second uncle Atlas Lancaster paced back and forth in the room, hands behind his back, brows furrowed, breathing heavily, visibly upset.
"This is simply outrageous!" Atlas Lancaster suddenly stopped, waving his arms and shouting in anger.
On the sofa, Daemon Lancaster also slammed the coffee table in front of him in discontent, fuming.
"The old man is obviously biased! Watching our uncle’s side mess around without stopping them!" Also says he’s too old to be in charge, huh! This favoritism is way too blatant!
"What can you do about it, who made him the family head!"
Gabriel Lancaster replied with a sarcastic tone. Not fond of studying, he joined the family factory right after middle school. Although a year younger than Joseph Lancaster, he was much more mature in speech and demeanor.
When it came to the matter of the family head, Atlas Lancaster and his wife felt even more aggrieved.
According to Lancaster Family rules, the position of the family head should typically skip a generation and pass to the eldest grandson of the current head unless there are special circumstances.
His own son, Daemon Lancaster, was clearly the eldest grandson of the Lancasters, five years older than the current head, Daxton Lancaster, yet the old man still biasedly passed the position to Daxton!
For many years, every time he thought about this, Atlas Lancaster would wake up from his dreams in anger!
The old man’s favoritism was obvious to everyone, perhaps because Daemon was his "illegitimate child," an embarrassment to the old man. On his sixtieth birthday, when the eldest son Daemon Lancaster offered him tea, he just put it aside.
With so many friends and family present at the Lancaster Family then, Daemon Lancaster was sullen for quite a while because of this.
"The old man is just biased, I wanted to reason with him but your dad stopped me!"
Eva Hayes also complained discontentedly. As the daughter of a bun shop cook, she had no education, and if it hadn’t been for Atlas Lancaster having an "illegitimate child" outside for which she took the blame, the Lancaster Family, being such a grand family, would never have married her in.
Even though Daemon wasn’t her biological son, she’s always been resentful about the fact her "son" didn’t become the family head, because as long as the couple kept quiet, Daemon wouldn’t know either.
It’s often said that a mother’s status rises with her son’s. Look at Lorelei Howard on the main side!
The mother of the current head of the Lancaster Family, even the servants in the house try to cozy up to her. If her son had become the family head, the servants would be cozying up to her instead!
"What’s there to reason about with Dad? You’re a woman; enjoy the blessings in the room and meddle less in men’s affairs!"
Atlas Lancaster scolded, displeased. In truth, he didn’t dare confront the old man either; after all, he felt guilty deep inside.
Initially, he took chances, never expecting the old man to be so stubborn.
"What’s so great about being the family head, dealing with such a huge mess? It’d be easier to run my own business. My dad recently turned a hefty profit on a batch of leather goods he brought in!"
Victoria Thornton, who hadn’t interjected until now, joined the conversation. With a clever mind and entrepreneurial spirit, her father had made a lot of money through business, and being the only daughter of the Thorntons, she brought a sizable dowry when getting married.
Although the Lancaster Family was big and affluent, Victoria, having grown up with a business-minded father, felt that managing such a large family business was not as practical as doing a bit of her own trade—even if not making a lot of money, the self-reliance and freedom it afforded were unmatched, unencumbered by others’ control.
