Chapter 973 - 972: Only Her

All along the way, the streetlights shone so brightly that this whole side was lit up like daytime, and Finn Chandler followed Julian Ford step by step toward his secret garden.

When they arrived, it really was a garden.

The garden was beautiful. Not many flowers were blooming at night, but just from the fragrance in the air, she knew there were countless plants here.

"Why are there so many flowers out here?"

Finn asked curiously.

Julian smiled and led her to a wooden table.

"My mom planted them here!"

Finn grew even more curious. The Ford Family had so many places suitable for flowers—why would Mrs. Ford choose outside?

"My mom and my dad’s relationship isn’t as good as what you see."

Finn froze for a moment. She wondered if she’d heard him right, and also found it strange that Julian would suddenly bring this up.

"Don’t they look pretty good together?"

At least on the surface they seemed to live in peace, respectful like guests—no, it was Mr. Ford who seemed afraid of Mrs. Ford.

"The three of you as a family look really happy."

Julian’s family background wasn’t just "happy"; it was practically perfect.

"On the surface, that’s true."

Julian’s smile faded as he said, "A strong woman and a weak man, and on top of that, a marriage between two families. Do you really think that would turn out well?"

Mr. Ford and Mrs. Ford’s story really was quite clichéd.

Back then, when The Ford Family ran into a crisis, it was Mrs. Ford’s family who stepped in to help.

Mrs. Ford’s family made one request: Mr. Ford had to marry her.

"Before my dad married my mom, he already had someone he loved."

"Huh?" Finn was taken aback. So Mrs. Ford had broken up a pair of lovers.

"So after they got married, the two of them were in a cold war for a very long time."

"And because of this marriage, my dad’s lover married the wrong man. Not long after giving birth to a daughter, she passed away."

"Her daughter is Fiona Ford."

Finn ventured a guess.

"Yes." Julian admitted it. Looking at the garden around them, all planted by Mrs. Ford, he went on with a smile, "Fiona is my dad’s first love’s daughter. After her mom died, my dad insisted on bringing her into the house, no matter how everyone objected."

"But my mom agreed."

"She didn’t want your dad to be heartbroken?" If that was the case, then Mrs. Ford must really love Mr. Ford, to the point of accepting even her rival’s daughter.

"Of course that’s not it." Julian laughed. "My mom isn’t that generous or kind."

"She’d been driven crazy by the elders of both families pressuring her to have a child, so she made my dad a proposal."

"To have a baby?"

Finn asked uncertainly.

"Right."

Julian nodded. "That would be me."

His birth wasn’t exactly welcomed either.

His biological father’s heart belonged to someone else. In order to bring his first love’s daughter home, he had him with Mrs. Ford.

"My mom probably wasn’t very happy for the first few years, but she knew very clearly what she wanted."

"When she was in a bad mood, she would bring me here to stay for a few days."

"She told me not to get involved in their mess, not to vent the negative emotions onto my dad, and to live my own life well."

"Live your own life well."

Finn repeated Julian’s words. She understood what he was really saying—he was using Mrs. Ford’s story to talk her through things.

"Chuchu."

Julian looked at her with a smile.

In his beautiful eyes, there was only her reflection.

"There are no perfect people in this world, and no perfect situations."

He looked perfect, but in truth his temperament and his temper weren’t that great.

His family looked happy, but was actually fragile.

"If they don’t want you, that’s on them. You have to make sure you live well."

"You have me, and him."

As Julian spoke, he gently placed his hand on Finn Chandler’s belly.
