Chapter 378: Adrian, Our Fate Came Too Late
On the day the court case opened in Stellerton, it was a bright sunny day.
Over the past few days, there were several heavy snowfalls, and the cold wind pierced the bones with pain. But today, it cleared up, as if foreshadowing a good omen.
Cecilia Vaughn had worries on her mind and couldn’t sleep at all. She was awake almost at five or six in the morning and kept tossing and turning.
Adrian Law was also a light sleeper. Sensing the unease in his wife’s heart, he silently reached out his hand and embraced her in his arms.
The man tightened his grip on her hand.
"Cecilia, don’t be afraid, I’m here."
Many things had already found key witnesses and evidence, making the probability of overturning Cecilia Vaughn’s case almost certain.
Cecilia raised her head silently. Her eyes, bright like autumn water, contained so much, and in that instant when their eyes met, Adrian suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for her.
But in the end, Cecilia didn’t say a word. She finally settled down, finding a comfortable position in Adrian’s embrace.
...
However, what Adrian did not expect was that as he got up, Cecilia suddenly turned her head, placing her finger gently against his thin lips.
"Adrian, you don’t need to accompany me."
The man frowned slightly.
"Why?"
Cecilia’s eyes shimmered with a fragile light, beautiful yet resolute, like tears that refused to fall. But clearly, there was no trace of moisture in Cecilia’s eyes.
"I don’t want you to see me at my worst. I can’t guarantee I won’t act like a shrew, won’t become hysterical, won’t break down."
Her... the last time she was in court was three years ago, on a sunny day, normal in every way.
Ironically, today, three years later, is also a fine day.
But her state of mind has changed completely, from the past’s panic and unwillingness to a vast desolation after experiencing everything.
Adrian subtly lowered his eyelashes. He reached out and gently smoothed the creases on the collar of the slender and delicate woman in front of him.
"Cecilia, you know I don’t care about those things."
"But I care!"
Cecilia answered firmly.
"Adrian, you’ve helped me enough. The remaining matters, I want to bear them myself."
The girl bit her lip, her eyes softly gazing at him.
A silent plea, hidden within.
Every girl hopes to leave the best impression in the heart of the one she loves.
Although she knows that someone who truly loves her will unconditionally accept her entirely.
But Cecilia is selfish too. She wants to keep a bit of her goodness in Adrian’s heart.
The man saw Cecilia’s clear, pure eyes and finally let out a silent sigh.
"Alright, I won’t go, but Wyatt must go with you, in case something unexpected happens."
If Cecilia truly faced the court scene alone, how could he be at ease?
Three years ago, Cecilia faced the malice of the world alone. Three years later, even if she doesn’t want him to accompany her, he doesn’t want his beloved woman to be alone.
"Alright, let Wyatt go with me."
Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief and readily accepted Wyatt Law accompanying her without any unwarranted affectation.
Adrian shook his head helplessly at her look of sheer relief. He curved his thin lips and affectionately pinched her nose.
"You, you know that as long as you look at me directly, I can’t refuse anything."
Perhaps, even if Cecilia asked him to go through fire and sword, he would do so without hesitation.
Cecilia burst into laughter at Adrian’s teasing, shaking her head in disbelief.
"No way, don’t forget, at the first time I asked for help at the Law Headquarters, someone rejected me coldly several times... Of course, I admit, asking for a fake marriage is something no normal person would appreciate."
Adrian was slightly taken aback by her words.
He silently glanced at the red plum birthmark on Cecilia’s left wrist and gently lifted her fair wrist, leaving a barely noticeable kiss.
Gentle, affectionate.
"Cecilia, had I known how much I would love you one day, I would definitely have found you earlier, to prevent any harm from coming to you."
The smile on Cecilia’s face paused momentarily. She awkwardly withdrew her left hand with the plum blossom birthmark.
"It’s just that fate came a little late. Who told me to meet you a bit later?"
Saying this, she bowed her head with slight sadness.
"Back then, I only knew Tyson Law. How could I know there was such an excellent guy like you in the Law Family? Had I known, I would have dumped him and rushed over to you!"
Adrian laughed noncommittally, gently wrapping an arm around Cecilia’s shoulders and holding her quietly for a moment.
"Cecilia, if anything happens in court, call me anytime."
"Okay."
Cecilia smiled and nodded, deftly putting on her shoes and winking at Adrian.
"Why do you seem to care more about me than my mom?"
"Isn’t it good to have someone care about you?"
Adrian raised an eyebrow at Cecilia, and then the two of them laughed at each other.
Life is long, and the years are cold and indifferent, but isn’t it a blessing to meet someone who can care for each other?
...
After Adrian’s words of wisdom, warmth filled Cecilia’s heart, and the previous gloom gradually dissipated.
And before long, Wyatt had already parked a flashy red sports car outside the villa.
Cecilia immediately chuckled.
"Not bad, Wyatt, I have never seen you so high-profile before, this isn’t like you!"
Wyatt laughed honestly and sincerely.
"Young Madam, indeed, today is your great day of being cleared of injustice. I specially chose a bright car to celebrate."
"Nonsense, the court hasn’t even ruled yet."
Cecilia bent her brows, nonetheless accepting Wyatt Law’s gesture. She deftly pulled open the passenger seat and elegantly crossed her legs.
She gently took out the Purple Moon Charm necklace hidden under the sweater, silently praying for good luck.
"Though Grandma said you would bring disaster, but... since Adrian gave you to me, everything will be fine, right?"
After thinking this, Cecilia quietly put the necklace back on her chest.
Mom, if your spirit is watching, you should support your daughter in today’s trial, right?
...
Half an hour later, the car arrived at Stellerton Intermediate People’s Court.
As soon as the car stopped, they encountered two eyesores.
Florence Warner was supporting the pregnant Fiona Vaughn as she got out, and after almost half a year, Fiona’s stomach was still so flat that, if it weren’t confirmed she was carrying Tyson Law’s child, Cecilia would have doubted if Fiona was faking a pregnancy.
Cecilia glanced indifferently at the two of them and then walked towards the courthouse without a sideways glance.
Seeing Cecilia ignore her like this, Florence instantly bristled with rage.
"You little brat, stop right there! Fiona is pregnant, and you’re vicious enough to slander her like this!"
