Chapter 2118 - 1951: Reunion
To love someone, to love them with all your life, yet not knowing the final outcome.
Ran Zhihan watched as Zhang Yichen’s figure disappeared from her sight, and she suddenly felt a bit reluctant to let go. She didn’t understand why her heart kept pounding every time she saw this man. Could it be that she was truly feeling the stirrings of springtime affection?
Ran Zhihan wished that she could frequently meet the man she had just encountered. She thought he spoke with elegance and was clearly someone from high society. She found him incredibly handsome and couldn’t understand why she felt such a deep sense of familiarity and a special closeness. Was it possible that, even though she had amnesia, she already knew this man before?
"If we are truly fated, then we will certainly meet again. I look forward to the day we reunite. I wonder, when that day comes, will you still remember who I am?" Ran Zhihan murmured to herself at the airport.
After leaving, Zhang Yichen turned around to look at Ran Zhihan. Like her, he felt he must have known this girl before, or why else would he feel such a familial bond upon meeting her? This feeling couldn’t have appeared out of nowhere; something must have happened before, but why couldn’t he remember anything? Suddenly, he realized that losing his memory was a particularly unfortunate thing.
At that moment, Zhang Yichen desperately wished that heaven would pity him and let him immediately recover his lost memories. He longed for a reunion with his beloved and hoped to find the silhouette from his dreams. He waited patiently for a serendipitous moment and for the day he would regain his memory. But why was that day so reluctant to arrive?
"Little sister, perhaps you don’t know, but from the first glance, I was deeply shaken by you. My heart has already been taken by you. Will we meet again? Now we are separated by distances, but I’m waiting for our reunion. Are you waiting for it too, just like I am?"
Old Master Zhang at the Zhang Family was unaware that his grandson had encountered his pre-arranged granddaughter-in-law on the way to the United States. He continued to hope that his grandson could smoothly bring back the granddaughter-in-law who had been lost. But would heaven truly fulfill Old Master Zhang’s wishes?
Zhang Yichen didn’t tell Old Master Zhang about who he met at the airport, nor did he reveal his inner thoughts to his grandfather. He felt it unnecessary to report these matters to his grandfather, believing that as an adult, he should take charge of his own affairs. When he saw Ran Zhihan, he was indeed moved, but now he felt conflicted. He didn’t know what to do; on one side was the girl from his dreams, and on the other was the girl he had just fallen for at first sight. He felt that no matter what he did, he would betray one of them...
After arriving in the United States, Zhang Yichen forgot to call Old Master Zhang to assure him of his safety. Old Master Zhang waited all night but didn’t receive a call for peace. Worried, he hurriedly called his grandson.
Seeing his grandfather’s call, Zhang Yichen answered and said, "Grandpa, why are you calling me? Do you miss me?"
Old Master Zhang was thrilled to hear his grandson’s voice, relieved after worrying for nothing. He was so afraid something had happened to him, unsure how he would carry on if anything happened to his grandson.
"You really are a Forgetful King. Did you forget what I told you when you left? Didn’t I tell you to call me to assure your safety upon reaching your destination? I’ve been waiting so long. Why didn’t you call? Did something happen?" Old Master Zhang asked anxiously.
"Grandpa, you’re overthinking. What could happen to someone my age? I was just delayed. Besides, I’m here on business, and as soon as I arrived, I got busy and forgot to call and assure you. I’m sorry for worrying you, Grandpa."
Old Master Zhang suspected his grandson was hiding something because his tone seemed off. He was curious about what might cause his grandson to keep a secret from him. After so many years, his grandson had never hidden anything from him, not once. Was it something related to him? Or had he met someone?
"Yichen, are you hiding something from Grandpa? Why does your tone sound strange to me? If something is going on, you must tell Grandpa. Over the years, you know how close we’ve been!" Old Master Zhang asked Zhang Yichen.
Zhang Yichen was surprised by his grandfather’s keen intuition and felt even more determined not to disclose this matter to him.
"Grandpa, you’re overthinking. I genuinely haven’t kept anything from you. It’s getting late; you should rest early and not worry about me. Once I conclude the business here, I’ll return home to be by your side. Take care of yourself during this time and don’t tire yourself out."
"Alright, you should get some rest too!"
And with that, they ended the call. After hanging up, Zhang Yichen couldn’t shake a sense of unease. It wasn’t due to anything in particular but rather a pang of conscience. He knew how much his grandfather had done for him over the years, how his grandfather had given him everything, sacrificing even basic comforts to provide for him. But why was he hiding this from him now? Would telling his grandfather harm him? Zhang Yichen felt deeply conflicted. He wanted to steer his own life, yet he couldn’t ignore his filial responsibilities. He couldn’t repay his grandfather’s generosity with deceit. If his grandfather ever found out he had intentionally kept something from him, how deeply wounded would he feel? Zhang Yichen couldn’t allow such an event. He couldn’t let the grandfather who loved him dearly be hurt again by his actions. Despite faint memories of events prior to his amnesia, he had completely forgotten the woman he once loved, not recognizing the silhouette in his dreams, the very image he longed to grasp, the missing presence in his heart.
As the heavy rain approached, it became clear that every story, years later, explained a period of yearning!
