Chapter 5: Killing Bugs Makes Me Strong
’I have to wait for a month for him to verify the information. Tch, that bastard can’t even trust his best friend.’
After having a good dinner and a long, slightly heated conversation with Martin, Klaus returned to his house.
Thankfully, with Martin’s aid, he could now act sick and stay home leveling up instead of working 9 to 5 for some measly cash.
I have about three grand on me, so it won’t be a problem for some time.
At this moment, he was truly regretting burning his savings and not saving more, but that was the life of a person in finance; they had to appear rich to get rich clients.
As he stepped in, system screens flooded his vision.
[Daily tasks have been refreshed!]
[Host has found a safe shelter!]
[Host has found edible food!]
[Host has found drinkable water!]
[Host has found a usable communication device!]
[Host has found items for hygiene!]
[Host has completed five daily tasks!]
[Host has leveled up!]
[No environmental mana found. Level up effect has been reduced by 50%.]
[Remaining effect would be reapplied once environmental mana has been detected.]
The warm sensation of leveling up spread through his body, and he mumbled, "It feels so weird yet good."
He then walked into his room and jumped on his bed. Even though he was no longer fatigued, his lifestyle was already structured in a way that allowed him to sleep whenever he wanted.
However, before he could close his eyes, a system screen materialized before him.
[What are you doing?]
"I am going to sleep," he replied with his brows furrowed in irritation.
[Host is not even fatigued, then why are you sleeping? Staying awake and vigilant is the only way to survive the apocalypse; level up only recharges your energy so you can do that.]
"..." he stared at the screen with a humorless expression and let out an audible sigh.
’Who is going to tell this stupid system that the apocalypse hasn’t even started yet?’
Knowing that there was no way to convince it, Klaus simply closed his eyes and went to sleep.
The system also stopped bothering him because, in the end, its task was to support, not to dictate.
*
The night passed, and Klaus left his house.
He rode his black BWM R 1000 RS and cut through the bustling streets like a ghost.
He had a wide grin behind the black race helmet with orange flame designs on both sides, and his heart was full of excitement.
Klaus loved to bike, and one could gauge that just by seeing him ride the first time.
[Host, where are you going?]
’Stop asking me and just wait for it.’
[I wish that you are not doing something stupid again.]
’Can you even wish?’
[Negative. I am simply made to say it this way to sound more humane. Humans tend to dislike the overflattery and rigidness of Artificial Intelligence.]
’That’s true.’
A few minutes later, the bike came to an abrupt stop, and Klaus took off his helmet before setting his eyes on the large store on his left.
The store had a board which read: Wen Ten’s Pet Store
Klaus parked his bike by the road and walked into the store with a look of expectation on his face.
"Welcome to Wen Ten’s Pet Store. How may I help you?" The young storekeeper standing behind the counter greeted and asked with a friendly smile on his face.
[Another human who can’t accept his reality.]
Klaus ignored the system and returned the smile. Then he looked around at the boxes of pet food and spoke in a somewhat confused tone, "I recently adopted four fishes and a friend told me to purchase live larvae as feed... Do fish really eat those?"
[Host, you don’t have any fish.]
The young storekeeper let out a chuckle and nodded. "You aren’t the person who has asked me that, and yes, they do enjoy eating live larvae."
"Haha. I thought I was being weird; fish must eat something to survive in the wild after all." Klaus scratched the back of his head.
"Are you looking to purchase some?" The young storekeeper’s eyes shone with dollar symbols, and Klaus nodded.
"Yeah, can you get me the biggest pack?"
The young storekeeper nodded.
After about an hour, Klaus returned to his house with a container as large as a shoebox, which was full of live larvae.
[Host, what is wrong with you today? Have you finally gone mad?]
"I am fine, heck, I am even better than yesterday," he stated while grinning widely.
However, the system was unable to understand him. To it Klaus’s actions were rather reckless.
He had once again left his safe shelter, met with more humans who were probably starving and could have attacked him at any point, and then he purchased a bunch of dead larvae.
It couldn’t understand why its host would do that, didn’t he know that the wave of mana had killed all of the live larvae?
Alas, it would’ve been better if someone like Martin had been chosen as his host.
Meanwhile, Klaus put on rubber gloves and scooped some live larvae into a polybag.
After filling it with about fifteen live larvae, he closed the container and rolled the polybag.
"Please work," he prayed inwardly and crushed the larvae with an open palm.
[Host has killed a mutated monster: Unlisted!]
[Host has killed a mutated monster: Unlisted!]
[Host has killed a mutated monster: Unlisted!]
[Host has killed a mutated monster: Unlisted!]
[Host has killed a mutated monster: Unlisted!]
[Host has killed...
As the system screens bombarded his vision, Klaus jumped off the seat and pumped his fist in pure excitement. "Yes!"
[Host has killed five mutated monsters!]
[Host has leveled up!]
[No environmental mana found. Level up effect has been reduced by 50%.]
[Remaining effect would be reapplied once environmental mana has been detected.]
[New normal mission added!]
[Kill ten mutated monsters.]
"Hahaha!" Klaus laughed loudly, and the screens continued to appear.

[New normal mission added!]
[Kill twenty-five mutated monsters.]
Only after two minutes did the system screens stop, and Klaus clenched his fist a few times.
Enthusiasm coursed through every fiber of his body, a wide, joyous grin plastered on his face.
[What just happened?]
The system asked, as it was unable to understand the situation.
"Heh," Klaus smirked and answered smugly, "I just slapped a bunch of mutated monsters to death. Did you really think I was chosen as the host for nothing? Tch tch. I really pity your creator for having such an unfilial creation."
[The mutated monsters that you have killed do not exist in my data. Does Host wish to name its species?]
His brows rose in surprise. "I can do that?"
[Yes.]
"Hehe." He smiled mischievously and stated in a prideful tone, "Name it: Klaus Murrow is the best host ever!"
