My Apocalypse System Awakened Five Years Early

Chapter 3: Preparing For The Future

[There is not much I can say about the seven calamities.]

Then how the hell am I supposed to kill them? Is the creator of this thing playing a prank on me?

Klaus placed a good amount of butter on the heated pan and said, "Tell me everything that you can."

The butter hissed and began to melt, and he grabbed four eggs from the container placed beside the stove.

[The seven calamities were the primary reason humanity was pushed to the brink of extinction. Each continent houses one of the seven calamities, and each is different from the other. Their massive energy reserves allow them to control the area around them as though they are the ruler of that place.]

Klaus lowered the flame, cracked the eggs in a bowl, and began beating them with a fork.

"How many of them did we manage to kill?"

[With the help of seven heroes, humanity was able to kill all of them, but it was already too late. Most of the humans were dead, leaving only a few hundred thousand, who were separated from one another into small groups.]

He sprinkled salt and pepper into the bowl after beating the eggs, and then poured them into the heated pan.

The pan sizzled, and Klaus stared at it in deep thought.

He folded the soft curds over themselves with a spatula and mumbled, "Which one of the seven calamities resides in North America?"

[The fifth calamity.]

"Can you tell me where it is?" Klaus hoped that it would answer, but his expectations were low.

[Unfortunately, I am restricted from mentioning that.]

Just as I thought, Klaus nodded and asked, "I should be able to know once I have reached the required level, yes?"

[Yes.]

By the time the conversation ended, the eggs were also finished cooking, filling the kitchen with their aroma.

He turned off the flame, took the pan off the stove, then he walked to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of mayo, ketchup, and hot sauce, and squirted an unhealthy amount of each over his breakfast.

He placed his hands on his waist and stared at his "masterpiece" with a wide grin.

"Scrambled eggs only taste good when they’re soaked in the holy trinity."

[...Why did you do that?]

Klaus knit his brows in confusion. "Do what?"

[Ruin a good plate of scrambled eggs.]

"Ruin? Haha. What does a pervert like you even know about scrambled eggs? If I claim the second place for being the best in cooking scrambled eggs, not even Rordon Gamsay would dare take the first place. Hmph!"

[Are you really sure about not doing the check for the ment—]

"Ah, shut up already! Aren’t I in a desolate world full of mutated monsters? Did your creator not code you to be compassionate or something?" Klaus snorted as he placed the sauces back into the fridge and took out a can of Mountain Mist Code Red Zero Sugar.

He moved to the table in the hall, sat in the chair, and began to eat his breakfast.

Fzz!

He opened the soda can and took a sip while deep in thought.

’If the seven calamities are on all seven continents, then I would need a hell lot of money to go there and then more to find them. I’ve already used the little savings I had in that damned scammy game... How am I supposed to do this?’

He took another sip and ate slowly as he thought of ways to earn money.

After a few minutes, he finished eating. At the same time, he asked the system while leaning in his chair, "System. How much do you know about the world before the apocalypse?"

[I know most of the events that had a major effect on the peaceful world.]

"Peaceful, huh..." Klaus let out a chuckle.

’Why was I even worrying about money when I have a literal seer in my head?’

Now all I need to do is to use my connections as a finance consultant to turn the system’s knowledge into wealth, and then I will use that to build my empire.

[Host, why are you thinking about money when it has already lost whatever importance it held before the apocalypse?]

"Don’t worry about it," Klaus said with a greedy glint in his eyes and stood up from his chair.

He placed the plate in the sink and threw the soda can into the trash. Then slipped his hand into his pocket, took out his phone, and dialed a number.

[What are you doing?]

"Calling my son."

[According to the data, you do not have a son.]

’There is data for that?’ Klaus wondered and added, "I meant a friend."

[Are you sure you want to do that? What if he traces the call and finds your location?]

Klaus frowned and looked at the system screen with a dumbfounded expression. "Why would he do that?"

[Host, do you also have Amnesia? Don’t you know the world is ending? If he finds out that you have edible food, drinkable water, and a safe shelter, he may try to kill you and take your supplies and shelter.]

"Ah. Right..."

For a moment, Klaus had forgotten that this system believed that the apocalypse had already happened.

"Don’t worry about it. I have already made preparations for that," he said, and at the same time, his friend picked up the call.

"Martin?" Klaus called out.

[Seems like that person also cannot come to terms with his new reality. Why else would he call you to the office when the place is full of mutated monsters? I did not know humans had such a weak will before the apocalypse.]

"I am running a bit under the weather... can you come meet me after the office?"

"No, not my home. We’ll meet at the Golden Square Hotel."

"Yep, that’s all. Beware, if you don’t come, I will have no option but to tell Mrs. Morse that you are also dating her sister."

"Bye." Klaus cut the call with a wide grin on his face.

It is my right to exploit the system to its knees and rise above everyone, though first I need a hell lot of money.

A greedy glint passed through his eyes, and he mumbled while staring at the air, "System... I have a few questions about the world before the apocalypse."

[Ask me anything; I do not have any restrictions on that information.]

’Hell yeah!’

"Tell me about companions and incidents which will shake the world’s economy."
