Chapter 38: Reading A Book About The Forgotten
Carl immediately jumped onto his chair and began the task of creating the list, which Klaus knew wouldn’t take long; the person making it was none other than Carl Snitzer, after all.
’Who would’ve thought that he is an idol stan?’
The corners of his lips lifted upward.
Whatever, it will only make things easier for me.
He also returned to his chair.
Slowly, his smile vanished, and he asked himself, ’Do I really have to call her?’
His gaze shifted to Carl, and he mumbled inwardly, ’I don’t really want to.’
’But I must.’ His eyes burned with determination. ’Stop thinking about it. There is still time for that.’
He moved his eyes away from Carl and looked around to find something to pass the time.
Right then, he noticed a book placed on the short shelf beside the computer desk, and he picked it up.
"The forgotten time?" Klaus mumbled. The name alone was enough to pull at his curiosity.
He leaned back in his chair, opened the book, and checked the index. He wasn’t the type to wait for a mystery to reveal itself. He preferred solving it himself.
The book had three sections listed as modern time, past time, and forgotten time.
Each section had three Chapters named humans, world, and kings.
’It feels like I am reading some forbidden scripture.’
Out of curiosity, he checked the modern humans Chapter, and it took him around ten minutes to read a total of six pages.
"It is detailed and not at the same time," he mumbled with furrowed brows.
The Chapter talked about how modern humans lived, what most of them wanted, needed, and gained, how the civilization functioned, the difference between the classes, and lastly, which people made the most contribution to create that lifestyle.
Reading it made Klaus feel like its author had never experienced that life. However, that was literally impossible, so he believed it was because of the way he had written it.
He checked on Carl and saw that he was still absorbed into his computer.
He returned to the book and continued to read it.
A few hours passed as he completed the modern and past time sections.
To sum up, the Chapters mentioned the lifestyle during those times, the condition of the world, and the people ruling over the populace, which was government for the former and kings, emperors, or similar for the latter.
Now, it was finally time for the last section.
The forgotten time.
Without wasting any moment, Klaus read the beginning Chapter and was left stunned by the detailed writing for this one.
The forgotten humans Chapter.
During a time between the caveman era and the era of the new kings, the humans lived under the protection of seven kings who were superior to everyone but each other.
Their life was full of hardship and suffering, as the seven kings were always at war with one another, and what the people at that time wanted most was to be blessed by their respective king.
The people who were blessed by the kings were considered a higher existence and could exert their power whenever they wanted.
People back then lived less and survived more.
The Chapter hit Klaus’s very core because it talked about a world that had lived opposite to the one he wanted to build.
Involuntarily, he flipped to the next Chapter and read it.
This one mentioned that all of the continents were once a single gigantic landmass and then an unprecedented disaster had forced them into what they now were.
’Is it talking about Pangaea?’ Klaus thought as he read it and moved to the last one.
The forgotten kings.
As per his expectations, this Chapter talked about the seven kings and gave names to their forgotten dynasties: Ndlovu, Duroda, Valois, Prescott, Quiroga, Farquhar and Yhaver.
There wasn’t much about them. It only stated that the seven kings never achieved harmony, even until the day they were split apart by the world itself.
"That’s it?"
The last Chapter was a huge disappointment, to say the least. It had built the seven kings for the first two Chapters, but when it was time to deliver, it had nothing to say about them.
"Who wrote this bullshit?" He flipped back to the introduction page, and there was the writer’s name.

He closed the book, and at the same instant, a blue screen appeared before him.

He read the message with a confused look and asked the system, ’What is this?’
[It is Host’s sixth completed daily task of today and eighth of tasks you are aware of.]
’What? Do I have to read books daily now?’ He frowned.
[The more knowledgeable you are, the easier it would be for you to save humanity from extinction.]
A thought came to his mind, and he asked, ’How am I supposed to do that when the world is ending?’
The system was supposed to appear on the first day of the apocalypse, so such a task didn’t make sense to him.
Who the hell is going to study during an apocalypse anyway?
[It is up to you if you want to or not. My creator had made sure to add everything, regardless of whether it makes sense or not.]
"Hmm..."
Klaus thought about it for a long while and then came to a decision: ’I will do this one until I find a better one.’
’Now I need to discover two more to start leveling up daily like before. It would be much easier if you just listed them.’
