Chapter 2072: Operation Concluded
When they learned that Long Qie and the others were from Sky Net, shock immediately surfaced on the faces of Wu Duihai and his people.
The Wu Clan members had never imagined that Sky Net would suddenly make a move against them!
This was also because there was far too little communication between the Ghost Raising Families. If the news of Lin Yi and Yao Da’s deaths had been able to spread quickly within the Ghost Raising Families, the Wu Clan—along with the other surnames attacked tonight—could have prepared in advance and wouldn’t have ended up in such a wretched state.
But now, whatever was said was already useless. Long Qie and the others were killing mad, and there was no way they would let Wu Duihai and the others escape.
"Leave no one alive!"
"Kill every last one of them!"
Long Qie’s voice rang across the entire battlefield.
Once the Sky Net members received the order, they all surged forward to kill the enemy, fighting with their lives on the line.
Long Qie naturally didn’t hold back either; his strikes were brutally fierce.
Even with the two brothers Wu Duihai and Wu Duiyan joining forces, they were still completely suppressed by him. Even after both brothers summoned their ghosts to help, they still couldn’t reverse the disadvantage.
The two sides had fought for less than three minutes when Long Qie found an opening.
Wu Duiyan failed to dodge in time and had one arm chopped off by Long Qie’s axe. Then, because Wu Duihai was too anxious trying to save his younger brother, he failed to notice Long Qie’s movement and was directly cleaved in half by a single swing of Long Qie’s axe!
Seeing this, the maimed Wu Duiyan’s eyes instantly turned blood-red as he tried to go all out against Long Qie!
However, even three Wu Duiyans together would not necessarily be Long Qie’s match, let alone when he was already seriously injured. Without being able to avenge Wu Duihai, he too was quickly beheaded under Long Qie’s axe!
The two brothers died together, their deaths miserable!
When they saw even Wu Duihai and Wu Duiyan die at Long Qie’s hands, the Wu Clan’s morale instantly plummeted to rock bottom. As the saying goes, when an army is defeated, it collapses like a mountain; the battle ended just a few minutes later.
Long Qie cut down the last member of the Wu Clan.
Just as the corpse hit the ground, a Sky Net brother stepped forward, sounding a bit excited as he said, "Mr. Long, everyone here has been killed! Where’s our next target?"
At that, Long Qie dispersed the giant axe in his hand, then said, "No rush heading to the next location. There’s still something important we need to take care of here first."
"You all stay here and wait for me. I’m going inside for a bit."
With that, he walked into the large manor in front of him.
Long Qie did this, of course, to help Xiao Zheng look for the Golden Bone.
The reason he didn’t call anyone in to help was because he didn’t want more people to know about the Golden Bone, in case someone tried to use it as leverage against Xiao Zheng or something like that.
After all, the Golden Bone meant the continuation of Xiao Zheng’s life. When it came to something this important, Long Qie had to remain extremely cautious and careful.
Luckily, the manor wasn’t all that big, and Long Qie quickly found what he was looking for.
A total of four pieces of Golden Bone—one more than what Yao Da had mentioned!
It was obvious the Wu Clan didn’t know how valuable the Golden Bone was; they had just casually left the four pieces lying around in a storeroom. When Long Qie found them, there was even a layer of dust on them.
"Finally got them!"
A trace of excitement flashed through Long Qie’s eyes.
He carefully slipped the four pieces of Golden Bone into his pocket, as if afraid they might somehow get lost.
Once he was done, Long Qie walked back out of the manor.
"Mr. Long, can we set off now?"
Someone immediately stepped forward and asked.
Hearing this, Long Qie nodded and said, "We’re good. Let’s move."
With that, he led everyone toward their next target.
At the same time, Titan and the others were also in action.
Because there were many places they had to hit, and they wanted to complete the mission in the shortest time possible, everyone moved very fast. Each battle lasted at most ten minutes before it was over.
Yet even so, the entire operation still took nearly a day and a half to complete.
Maybe it was because they’d killed too many people, but the expressions on everyone’s faces were more or less numb. It wasn’t until their own casualty count came out that their expressions finally changed.
In this operation, they killed a total of 136 people from the Ghost Raising Families, while their own side suffered 28 casualties.
When Long Qie received the battle damage report, his face immediately darkened.
Because his original plan had been to wrap up this operation with zero casualties. The final result, however, was like an invisible slap to his face. Titan and the others who’d taken part in the operation all looked bad as well—after all, every squad had taken losses.
"Looks like life’s been too comfortable. Everyone’s lost their sense of danger."
Long Qie’s gaze swept coldly over the crowd, his tone icy.
He really was angry now, because those 28 brothers hadn’t needed to die. They died purely because of carelessness. This kind of meaningless battle damage made his heart ache.
"I bear responsibility for this."
Titan lowered his head, not daring to look at the people around him.
Because his squad had the highest number of casualties: of the 28, six were from his team.
At that, Long Qie said coldly, "Of course your responsibility isn’t small. If this operation were fully wrapped up already, I’d definitely punish you according to the rules. For now, I can only put this debt on hold. Once the matter of the Ghost Raising Families is completely settled, I’ll deal with you then!"
Although the two of them usually got along quite well, when it came to official business neither of them would show favoritism.
Titan truly looked remorseful. He nodded and said, "Whatever responsibility is mine, I’ll take it. As for the death benefits for those 28 brothers, let me shoulder them."
"Our squad also lost brothers. This is everyone’s dereliction of duty. Titan, you don’t need to take all the blame alone," Bai Mudan said. "If there’s punishment, we all take it together."
After that, all the other squad leaders spoke up in agreement.
Seeing how sincere everyone was in admitting their mistakes, Long Qie’s expression eased slightly. "What’s done is done. Arguing over who’s right and who’s wrong now is meaningless. We only have two things to do: first, take care of the death benefits for our fallen brothers; second, completely prevent anything like this from happening again."
"I hope everyone can take today’s events as a warning and keep enough caution and vigilance in their hearts at all times."
Everyone nodded, and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Long Qie didn’t want to blame them too much anymore. He then said, "Alright, everyone’s been in action all day. You must be exhausted. Go back and rest first. We’ll talk about the rest later."
The group then dispersed.
