Adrian stepped into his bedroom with a towel hanging around his neck, rubbing the last of the water from his hair as mellow music played from his phone on the bed.

The apartment was finally quiet.

Suspiciously quiet.

He tossed the towel onto the back of a chair and reached for his phone.

The screen lit up before he could unlock it.

[Daily Task Complete.]

[Reward: 500 Billionaire Points.]

Adrian stared at the notification.

Five hundred. Not bad.

He opened the System interface.

[Billionaire Points: 1,000]

His mouth lifted slightly.

"Finally."

One thousand points wasn’t much compared to the money he’d been dealing with lately, but it was different from the rewards he’d been collecting before.

He finally had enough to spend.

Adrian sat on the edge of the bed and opened the Store.

He scrolled past a few items. Some were useful. Others looked suspiciously designed to make him spend points simply because they existed.

Then he saw it.

x1 C-Rank Gacha pull🎟️

Cost: 1,000 BP

His thumb stopped. He looked at his balance.

1,000 BP

A new skill already, now that was just too tempting.

He opened it. A confirmation window appeared.

Would you like to spend 1,000 Billionaire Points?

[Yes]

[No]

Adrian’s thumb hovered over the Gacha pull. One thousand points. Exactly his balance.

Maybe he’d get something incredible. Or, maybe he’d get something worse than Nutritional Multiplier

A moment passed before he huffed.

Nah.

He’d spent enough time being broke to understand the value of having something left over.

"Accumulating it should be the best option right now." A beat. "When I have enough I can..."

He paused, his eyes drifting toward the bottom of the list. That was when he noticed a section he’d somehow missed.

Point Conversion

He tapped it. A smaller panel opened.

Billionaire Point Conversion

Starter conversion: 3,000 Billionaire Points = $1,000

Adrian blinked. "No way."

He read it again just to be sure.

Three thousand points for a thousand dollars. His balance was only a thousand. Still, that was enough to give the points another purpose.

He could save them for gacha pulls or turn them into actual money when he needed it.

This is insane... He smirked.

Adrian looked back at the conversion rate.

Fifteen thousand points was enough to cover the five-thousand-dollar activation cost.

Adrian glanced at the Mind Maze Runner entry again.

It was still a long way off, but at least the cost no longer felt impossible.

Cashback wasn’t his only way to get there anymore.

Then came the more complicated question. Who would he use it on?

Rose?

Adrian dismissed the idea almost immediately.

There wasn’t much he actually wanted to know about her badly enough to invade her privacy.

Maybe... Jenna.

Adrian paused. Hmm...

It didn’t exactly sound like a bad idea. She talked enough to make him think she had nothing to hide.

Somehow, that only made him more curious about the things she didn’t say.

Reading someone’s thoughts wasn’t something he wanted to make a habit of. Still, trying it once wouldn’t hurt.

Then, he paused. That’s right, Jenna had been calling him since.

He closed the Store. Three missed calls waited on his phone.

Jenna.

Why the hell was she calling when she knew I was with Rose?

Adrian frowned.

Knowing Jenna, it was probably some kind of stunt.

He tapped Call. The phone rang twice before it connected.

"Finally."

Adrian smiled faintly. "Hello to you too."

"You sound awfully calm for someone who’s been ignoring me."

"I was in the shower."

"You were in the shower for forty minutes?"

Adrian glanced toward the bathroom. "It was a very thorough shower."

"I’m sure it was." Jenna laughed under her breath. Adrian smiled.

"Um. By the way, someone wants to have a talk with you."

Adrian straightened. "A talk? Who is it?"

A man’s voice blasted through the phone. "THIS GUY."

Adrian pulled the phone slightly away from his ear. His eyebrows rose.

"...Drew?"

"Fuck yeah, it’s me. You ghosting bastard."

Adrian stared at the screen. How the heck did he meet Jenna this early?

"You disappear for hours, ignore my texts, and then I hear you’ve been making out with Jenna?"

Adrian’s eyebrows rose. "Making out?"

"Don’t play dumb."

"I asked a question."

"Shut up, Adrian."

Jenna’s voice came faintly through the phone.

"Drew, give me the phone."

"Screw you too, you Jezebel."

"Drew."

"Adrian, you owe me."

Adrian frowned. "Owe you?"

"For emotional damages." A beat. "You left me on read. That hurt my feelings, you douchebag."

Fair enough. At this rate, owing people things was becoming a hobby.

"Mm. I guess that seems fair," Adrian said, settling back against the headboard, "so I’m guessing you already have something planned."

"Of course I do. We’re going out, today."

Adrian’s smile faded slightly. "Today?"

"Yes. Today."

"Can we do it tomorrow? I kinda already have plans."

"I don’t give a shit about your plans, dude. You owe me."

He paused.

He should probably have said no. He still had too many plans already.

Yet somewhere between Drew’s complaints and Jenna laughing in the background, Adrian found himself smiling.

"Fine. I’ll come."

Drew went silent for half a second, then. "Good choice."

"You didn’t give me much choice."

"You don’t get a vote."

Adrian sighed.

"Alright. See you in twenty."

"Make it ten." Drew replied. "And buy me some cheese sticks on your way here."

The call ended before Adrian could respond.

He lowered the phone and stared at the screen for a moment. Apparently, today was going to be busier than he thought.

Better get going, then.

Adrian walked to his closet, running a hand through his still-damp hair as the music continued playing from the bedroom.

He opened it and paused. There were actual colors in there this time. Look at him, personal growth.

He reached for a clean white button-up shirt, and slipped it on, turning towards the mirror to check the fit.

Bzzzt. Bzzzt. Bzzzt.

He glanced at the screen. For half a second, he assumed Drew had forgotten something.

Then he saw the name.

Dad.

Adrian’s thumb stopped over the screen. His father didn’t usually call him. The music had already stopped, leaving the room strangely quiet.

He stared at the name for another second before answering.

"Hello?"

There was a pause.

Then his father’s voice came through.

"Adrian."
