My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 315: Even If It’s Delicious, You Shouldn’t Get It On Your Face

Because Damien Vaughn ate in the cafeteria every day, the Vaughn Group’s cafeteria served excellent food with an incredible variety of dishes.

Damien Vaughn led Cecelia Archer by the hand down the wide aisle, right up to the serving counters, and started explaining the options to her.

"We have several regional cuisines, like Sichuan, Shandong, Huaiyang, and Dongbei. Which one are you in the mood for?"

Cecelia Archer knew the Vaughn Group was loaded, but she never imagined it was *this* loaded.

The spread was dazzling, and the food at every station looked incredibly tempting. ’If I ate like this every day,’ she thought, ’I can’t imagine how much weight I’d gain.’

Cecelia Archer couldn’t decide. "Which one are you getting?"

"I’m having the Huaiyang-style dishes," Damien Vaughn said.

"Then I’ll have the same as you."

They went to the Huaiyang counter together. The woman behind the counter skillfully plated a few of Damien Vaughn’s favorite dishes, then looked over at Cecelia Archer with a wide grin.

"President Vaughn, is this your girlfriend? Is it her first time visiting the company? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her before."

"She’s my wife. You’ll be seeing her around often."

"Oh my, your wife! When did you two get married? You never said a word, or we would have all pitched in for a gift!"

"That’s not necessary. We don’t have plans for a wedding ceremony right now, but thank you for the thought."

"Oh, I was just saying! It’s not like I actually gave you anything, so what’s there to thank me for? It’s our first time meeting, so I don’t have a proper gift for you. Here, let me give you some extra food! Look at you, you’re so skinny. You need to eat more. A little more weight on you is good for your health—and makes it easier to have a baby!"

Cecelia Archer hadn’t expected the cafeteria lady to be so amusing and chatty. She accepted the gesture with a cheerful smile.

As the plate was passed over the counter, Damien Vaughn took it for her and asked.

"Do you want some soup? Let’s get some."

The woman behind the counter enthusiastically chimed in.

"Yes, get some! The soup here isn’t just an afterthought. It’s a rich bone broth that’s been simmering all morning. It’s really good for you! You have to try some!"

Cecelia Archer smiled and nodded at the woman, then turned to Damien Vaughn.

"Why don’t you go find a table? I’ll get the soup."

Damien Vaughn’s usual spot was, as always, being saved for him, so he walked right over.

’He knew full well that Cecelia could handle anything. She could even lead a group of men in manual labor at a place like Windmount. But now that she was his wife, he couldn’t even bear the thought of her carrying two bowls of soup.’

Damien Vaughn set down his tray and immediately walked back to Cecelia Archer, taking the soup bowls from her hands.

"Is it hot? Be careful. Let me."

They returned to the table and sat down across from each other. Cecelia Archer leaned in and whispered furtively.

"Can you stop being so dramatic? I’m not that fragile. Everyone’s staring at us."

Without looking up, Damien Vaughn neatly arranged her chopsticks and placed them in her hand.

"Let them look. What’s wrong with me doting on my own wife? Why should I hide it? Now, hurry and eat. Even a complete stranger can see you’re too skinny."

Cecelia Archer: "..."

She lowered her head and started eating. After a couple of bites, Damien Vaughn asked if it was good. Cecelia Archer honestly replied that it was delicious.

It was just that there were too many eyes on her, and it was making her feel incredibly self-conscious.

"But even if it’s delicious, you don’t have to get it all over your face."

Just as she was feeling all those eyes on her, Damien Vaughn reached out and gently touched the corner of her mouth.

Two grains of rice were stuck to the corner of her mouth. Damien Vaughn picked them off and popped them into his own mouth.

"It’s true, though," he said. "Your bowl does seem sweeter than mine."

Cecelia Archer: "..."

At the same time, she could have sworn she heard faint gasps from the crowd, and the buzzing of gossip grew louder.

"President Vaughn, please, behave yourself. So many people are watching."

Damien Vaughn was completely unapologetic.

"If you keep acting all secretive like you’re ashamed to be seen with me, I’ll kiss you in front of everyone. We’re not teenagers, what’s there to be shy about?"

Cecelia Archer was busy kicking him under the table when the elevator doors opened and another group of people walked into the cafeteria.

It was the engineering department.

One of the department’s aging electrical systems had failed that morning, and they had just finished the repairs.

They hadn’t expected to see President Vaughn in the cafeteria, let alone the long-absent President Linden.

Feeling bold from their time working together, a few of them immediately rushed over.

"President Vaughn, having lunch? President Linden, long time no see! What are you doing here at our company? Not cool, coming all this way without letting us know. We should be taking you out for a feast!"

Cecelia Archer was also happy to suddenly see these familiar faces.

But then her gaze swept over the crowd and landed on Miller, and the cheerful remark on the tip of her tongue died in her throat.

"I didn’t want to interrupt your work. Did you have to work late? You should hurry up and get some food before it gets cold. Our group chat is still active, isn’t it? We can catch up there later."

"Alright."

Since she was sitting with President Vaughn, they must have had important matters to discuss. Everyone took the hint and hurried off to get their food.

Every one of them wore a simple, honest smile, except for Miller. His expression was complicated.

After getting his food and sitting down, he listened to the gossip around him and grew even more panicked.

"Who the heck is that woman? She just came out of nowhere and snatched up President Vaughn. And he’s showing her off in public, too. She’s definitely the boss’s wife, no doubt about it! My god, he even ate the rice from the corner of her mouth! He’s not afraid to show his love at all! *Swoon*, that’s some serious boyfriend material!"

"Yeah, watching them is making me all starry-eyed. I want a boyfriend exactly like President Vaughn!"

The engineers were stunned at first, but then they thought about it and it seemed perfectly natural.

Back at Windmount, they had already sensed there was something unusual about the way President Vaughn looked at President Linden, but they hadn’t dared to overthink it at the time.

Now that they thought about it, the two of them were actually a great match.

Everyone was sincerely happy for them. Only Miller, his heart heavy with worry, pulled out his phone and found Gwen Morgan’s name.

"Miss Morgan, I haven’t seen you at the office at all since the New Year. Are you not coming in anymore?"

He sneakily took a photo of Cecelia Archer and Damien Vaughn eating face-to-face, smiling at each other.

"Are you really just going to let her win like this?"

On the surface, it looked like he was standing up for Gwen Morgan, but in reality, Miller was just afraid that Cecelia Archer would get revenge on him.

After all, only he and Cecelia Archer knew about the shameful thing he’d done at Windmount.

’If she really becomes the boss’s wife, won’t I be a dead man?’

Ever since deciding to give up on Damien Vaughn, Gwen Morgan had been listless. She was at home, spacing out from sheer boredom.

When she saw the text and photo from Miller, she grew even more irritated.

"Do you have any constructive suggestions or actual plans? If not, don’t bother me again!"

Miller: "..."

’Miss Morgan had given him several chances, and he’d failed to capitalize on a single one. It was his fault things had gotten to this point; he had no right to argue. But he couldn’t just sit back and wait for his doom, could he?’

"Miss Morgan, as long as you don’t give up, I won’t either! I don’t think she can compare to you at all. I’ll definitely find a way to get rid of her for you. Just trust me one more time!"

But by now, Gwen Morgan no longer believed him. Besides, with Mrs. Vaughn and the Old Master both dead, she had no one left to back her. Damien Vaughn’s attitude had truly left her disheartened.

Out of sight, out of mind. She blocked Miller’s number.

"If I can get rid of her for you this time, is the offer for the money still on the table?"

Miller thought for a moment longer before sending one last message, only to find he had been blocked.

A new wave of panic washed over him.
