Chapter 363: Look Who This Is
A rich woman has plenty of time and connections, but she just doesn’t know what to do with herself.
Now that Damien Vaughn had given her a direction, she was more than willing to get busy.
"Great! I didn’t realize you could draw. When will they be ready? I can’t wait!"
When it came to traditional-style clothing, countless color palettes and designs instantly flooded Damien Vaughn’s mind. He figured he could draw them all in a single day.
"You go contact the factories and makeup artists first. I’ll give you the design drafts within two days."
The rich woman gave Damien Vaughn another computer. They parted ways, and Damien Vaughn returned to his guesthouse. After doing some research online, he immediately started drawing nonstop.
He had slept too much recently, so he was full of energy now. Pulling one or two all-nighters was no problem at all.
He didn’t eat or drink, just kept drawing and drawing on the computer. On the morning of the third day, he met with the rich woman and successfully handed the design drafts over to her.
The rich woman’s eyes lit up with excitement as she looked at the fairy-like figures on the computer screen.
"These are gorgeous! I love every single one. I don’t care, I’m going to wear one of these and walk the runway at the fashion show!"
"That would be perfect. We can also design some men’s and children’s clothes and invite male citizens and kids to join us on stage."
"Yes, yes, yes! I’ll take the drafts to my friend at the factory right now. You go back and keep drawing."
Damien Vaughn pulled another all-nighter. The next day, he finished drawing the designs for men, young ladies, and young masters.
The next steps were to go to the factory to create the patterns, confirm the fabrics and styles, and then begin mass production.
Once the samples were confirmed, the production speed was incredibly fast.
While the factory was busy, Damien Vaughn and the rich woman had people build a stage in the center of the town square and put up huge advertisements to generate buzz for the fashion show ahead of time.
Hearing that they would get to wear oriental-style clothing, have their makeup done, and walk the runway, many people were eager to participate.
After about half a month of frantic work, the day finally arrived. The rich woman had hired fifty makeup artists, and fifty vanity tables were set up in the square, attracting nearly the entire city’s population.
The place was a sea of people, bustling with excitement.
The rich woman had intended to keep a low profile, but her mother showed up to watch, recognized her, and then called her husband over.
Having heard she was starting a business, and a very successful one at that, her husband was naturally curious. He blended into the crowd and watched the entire event.
The event was a huge success. This wave of cultural promotion was truly eye-opening for everyone, and many people were very interested in their clothes.
The rich woman received many orders, and the brand name instantly became famous.
After a busy day that didn’t end until evening, she and Damien Vaughn were backstage, full of hope for the future, when her parents and husband suddenly appeared.
"Ah! What are you all doing here?"
Her parents chided her gently. "Why didn’t you tell us you wanted to start a business? It’s not something to be ashamed of, acting all secretive. We always knew you were a smart girl. There’s nothing you can’t do if you set your mind to it. Look, today’s event went so well. We’re so proud of you."
The rich woman was delighted, waiting for her husband’s praise, but his gaze fell upon Damien Vaughn instead.
’When did she meet this man? Starting a business with him? How could some strange man know about this when I didn’t?’
’And why does he look so familiar?’
In front of his in-laws, it wasn’t appropriate to say much. The husband offered a few perfunctory words of praise to his wife and took her home.
On the way, he asked his wife when she had met Damien Vaughn, and she told him the truth.
He asked where the man was from and what his full name was, but the rich woman couldn’t answer.
"You don’t even know where he’s from or what his name is, and you dare to partner with him? Don’t you think that’s absurd?"
The rich woman said, "It might sound a little absurd, but he’s not a bad person. We’ve known each other for over ten days. Without him, today’s event would have been impossible, and my brand wouldn’t exist."
"You think that just because the event was a success and the brand is established, it’s all smooth sailing from here? The real spending and earning comes later. You don’t understand any of this. When you ask him for help and hand everything over to him, aren’t you afraid..."
This reminder from him sent a cold sweat down the rich woman’s back.
"No wonder he was so eager to help me... Are you saying... Honey, it’s a good thing you came today. What should I do?"
Her husband’s face was dark. "What else can you do? Get rid of him, quickly, before there are any losses."
"But..."
"But what? You don’t even trust me now, only him? What if his next step is to drive a wedge between us and convince you to divorce me? Would you listen to him then, too?"
The rich woman loved her husband very much; how could she possibly do something like that?
But her intuition told her that Damien Vaughn wasn’t a bad person, and she felt bad about just kicking him out like this.
After thinking it over and over, the next day, she used the excuse that her husband was jealous and didn’t want her associating with other men. She gave Damien 50,000 yuan.
"You’ve worked so hard with me during this time, and the designs were your original creations. It’s not fair for me to just take them. Take this 50,000 yuan as my compensation. The phone is yours to keep, too. Please don’t hate me, okay?"
Damien Vaughn had thought a wonderful life was beckoning, but it turned out all his hard work was for nothing.
Still, he could understand. No man could tolerate his wife working with another man every day.
’It seems I can’t rely on others. In the end, I have to start my own business.’
’At least she was generous. I have seed money now.’
"I won’t hate you. On the contrary, I’m very grateful you gave me the opportunity to work with you. I hope you’ll run the business well and make the brand a great success. If you ever need my help with anything, you can still call me."
The rich woman’s husband stared at the photo of Damien Vaughn on his phone screen, looking at it again and again. Finally, he sent it to the other party.
"Is this the man you’re looking for?"
Second Uncle woke up, opened his eyes, and saw the photo of Damien Vaughn. He jolted in shock.
Thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him, he looked carefully again and again, then made a phone call.
"When was this photo taken? Where? Have you shown it to anyone else?"
"Mr. Vaughn, I’m afraid I can only tell you that after you’ve signed the contract for me."
"You... What if I sign the contract and the photo turns out to be fake?"
"You can have a professional authenticate it if you want, but you’d better be quick. I can’t guarantee he’ll still be around by the time you’re done with your authentication."
Second Uncle had no choice but to sign the contract immediately and fax it to him.
"Now you can tell me, right?"
The man looked at the contract smugly. "It was taken in a certain square in Rivia. But he’s already left that place. And he has no ID and no fixed residence. By the time you get here from the oriental country, there’s no guarantee you’ll find him."
"But if you sign the contract for the other project as well, I can have someone keep an eye on him for you in the meantime."
