My Class is Null, But I Always Get the Best Outcome

Chapter 268: Whispering Ruins (Part 2)

The four Ruin Generals kept spreading out across the plaza, and Kai read them fast. Each carried a different weapon, and none of them charged in immediately, settling instead into distinct battlefield roles.

One carried a greatshield and sword, clearly the frontline commander. Another wielded a massive spear built for controlling distance. A third held twin curved blades, built for speed and assassination. The fourth carried an ancient staff, standing back from the others entirely.

Lily noticed it immediately. "...They’re an actual squad."

Kai nodded. "They’re covering each other’s weaknesses instead of fighting alone."

The Staff General raised his weapon, and hundreds of runes ignited across the plaza floor at once.

The fight began.

Instead of attacking directly, the Staff General started issuing commands. The Shield General moved to intercept Kai head-on. The Spear General forced Sera backward with a series of wide, sweeping thrusts. The assassin vanished entirely, reappearing somewhere near Lily’s position. Stone soldiers began emerging from hidden passageways around the plaza’s edge.

Kai laughed, blocking the Shield General’s first strike. "...They’re treating this like a real war."

The Staff General kept buffing the other three continuously, stone walls rising to reinforce their positions, broken statues repairing themselves mid-fight, the entire plaza actively assisting the bosses against them.

The Shield General blocked everything Kai threw at it, absorbing strike after strike without flinching.

Kai called out. "Mira!"

She grinned, already moving. "...Already on it."

Her Blast Maul crashed down against the General’s shield.

BOOOOOOM!!

The shockwave tore across the plaza, cracking stone tiles for a dozen feet in every direction. Instead of attacking wildly, Mira deliberately kept feeding Iron Fortress with every blocked strike, letting the General’s own force build up inside her armor.

The General pushed harder, throwing more weight behind each swing. Mira absorbed it all, storing more with every impact.

Kai smiled, watching from a distance. "She’s charging up."

Eventually the General overcommitted to one final heavy strike, and Mira released everything she’d stored at once, Blast Maul erupting with pent-up force.

"IRONHEART RELEASE!"

CRAAAAAAAAASH!!

The General went flying through three separate ancient walls, its shield finally shattering under the accumulated pressure. It didn’t get back up.

One boss down.

Meanwhile, the assassin kept blinking between ruined pillars, closing in on Lily from a dozen different angles. Lily never panicked once.

"...Left," she said calmly.

An arrow fired. The assassin dodged, straight into the path of a second Spirit Archer already waiting for it. Another arrow. Another forced dodge. Another prediction already accounted for.

Twenty Spirit Archers had taken position across the ruined rooftops by then, covering every escape route, every blind spot the assassin might have tried to exploit.

The assassin realized too late that it hadn’t been chasing Lily at all.

It had been trapped inside her calculations from the moment it committed to the attack.

Lily smiled. "...Checkmate."

A hundred arrows released at once, and the assassin vanished beneath the barrage entirely.

The Spear General dominated its own corner of the plaza, every thrust releasing shockwaves that cracked the ground beneath it. Kai closed the distance fast, and Sera filled every opening he left behind, the two of them moving together with a rhythm that didn’t need words anymore.

Kai attacked.

Sera blocked.

Kai retreated a step.

Sera advanced into the gap.

The General started getting overwhelmed by the constant pressure from two directions at once.

Kai switched to Tempest Fang, lightning exploding outward across the plaza. Sera followed immediately with a Light Wave, gold and blue energy overlapping in a blinding wash of light.

The General staggered.

Kai swapped instantly to Rootbreaker.

BOOOOOOM!!

The General crashed into the ground hard enough to crack the plaza floor, and Sera finished it with a descending spear strike straight through its chest.

Only the Staff General remained standing. Instead of attacking, it calmly raised its weapon, and every fallen General began glowing faintly across the plaza. Stone fragments started pulling themselves back together, rebuilding piece by piece.

Kai understood immediately. "...It’s rebuilding them."

Lily reacted first. "Destroy the core!"

A glowing crystal became visible inside the staff itself, pulsing with the light feeding the reconstruction.

Kai Air Stepped straight toward it, the Ashen Seal surrounding him as he closed the distance. Tempest Fang. Bloodthorn. Rootbreaker. Fractured Blade. Four weapons struck the crystal together in a single coordinated burst.

The staff exploded, and the final General collapsed, the reconstructing fragments across the plaza freezing mid-motion before crumbling back into inert stone.

Silence.

The plaza started shaking violently a moment later. The four broken Generals slid toward the center as one, stone and mana and ancient runes combining into a single mass.

Kai sighed. "...Of course."

Lily laughed despite herself. "I was wondering where the actual boss was hiding."

The combined mass rose slowly, forming into an enormous ancient stone king seated on a ruined throne.

[Dungeon Boss Detected.]

[Ruin King.]

[Level: 66.]

The throne slowly stood, and the King’s eyes opened.

Unlike everything they’d fought so far, the Ruin King barely moved on its own. Instead, it commanded the battlefield around it, entire sections of ruin transforming into weapons, stone dragons tearing free from collapsed towers, massive swords forming out of shattered buildings and swinging on their own.

Kai read the fight immediately. "...Kill the king. Ignore everything else."

The team executed it perfectly. Sera tanked the environmental attacks, shield absorbing hit after hit. Mira broke through defensive barriers the King kept summoning. Lily’s Spirit Archers suppressed the battlefield itself, forcing every stone construct into predictable paths. Kai stayed on the core, pressuring it constantly, never letting the King settle into a rhythm.

Eventually Kai switched to Null Fang, the black blade ignoring the King’s massive defensive rating entirely.

One decisive slash split the core clean open.

The Ruin King froze mid-motion. Cracks spread rapidly across its entire body, spiderwebbing outward from the wound.

Then it exploded into thousands of stone fragments all at once.

System windows bloomed immediately.

[Dungeon Cleared.]

[Boss Defeated.]

[Distortion Applied.]

[Reward Quality: Optimized.]

Blue light filled the throne room, and several high-quality drops materialized across the ruined floor: an Ancient Command Relic, a Ruin General Core still faintly glowing, a King’s Authority Crystal pulsing with dense mana, high-grade mana ore scattered in a loose pile, and a handful of rare crafting materials mixed in among the rubble.

Kai picked up the crystal, turning it over in his hand.

Lily’s eyes lit up instantly. "...That relay pattern." She reached for it. "I can use this."

Mira gathered the rest of the materials methodically, sorting them by hand into her pack.

Sera laughed, brushing dust off her shoulder. "Another successful trip."

The dungeon began collapsing without warning, stone ceilings cracking overhead, the whole throne room trembling around them.

Kai pointed toward the exit. "Run!"

The four of them sprinted through crumbling hallways as ancient ruins fell apart on every side, leaping through the exit gate just as the tunnel behind them gave way completely.

CRAAAAASH!!

The entire dungeon imploded a heartbeat after the last of them cleared the threshold.

Outside, the crimson gate fractured, cracks spreading across its surface before it shattered entirely into scattered blue particles.

Silence returned to the western district, the four of them standing there catching their breath, sunlight breaking through overhead like nothing unusual had happened at all.
