Chapter 148

The referee, after seeing just how terrible Shi Mo’s condition was, did not waste another second. He quickly carried him toward the medical hub located close to the battle stage, where all the participants wounded during their matches were being rushed for treatment.

He reached the medical hub in less than the blink of an eye and carefully placed Shi Mo’s battered body down on one of the soft medical beds. Then, without wasting any time, he quickly turned toward Sir Won, the oldest and most skilled physician who had been brought to oversee the tournament.

Sir Won was far from weak himself. He was a late-stage Bronze Core Realm cultivator and a true expert in the field of medicine. His knowledge of the human body, cultivation injuries, Qi pathways, and internal damage was far beyond what ordinary physicians could ever hope to understand.

"He needs immediate medical attention," the referee said urgently. The elderly physician did not keep him waiting. Sir Won immediately stepped forward and began examining Shi Mo. He gently placed one hand against Shi Mo’s chest before closing his eyes.

He was using his senses to look deeply into Shi Mo’s body, attempting to understand just how terrible his condition truly was and what needed to be done to save him and restore him to full health.

Yet only a few seconds after Old Won closed his eyes, they suddenly snapped open. He immediately turned toward the referee, shock and urgency visible in his gaze. "Be quick!" His tone sounded urgent. Extremely urgent.

"Bring Elder Ting here immediately!" Old Won shouted. "Or else the kid will die!" The referee did not need to be told twice. He could sense that Shi Mo was far from being alright.

His condition was terrible, and the referee was certain that it was not merely the brutal beating Li Yu had given him that had caused him to reach this state. No. It had to be whatever Shi Mo had decided to use during the final moments of their battle. It was clear that Shi Mo had completely exhausted his Qi reserves.

Yet despite having no Qi left, he had somehow managed to increase the gravity around the entire battle stage by fifty times during the final moments of the match. Since his Qi reserves had already been exhausted, the question now was simple.

Where had all that Qi come from? Well, the answer was rather obvious. Wasn’t it more than clear? Shi Mo must have done something truly crazy. He must have shattered one of his refined Qi Beads to gain a massive influx of Qi. Crazy...

The referee disappeared from the medical hub in one second and returned during the next. Standing beside him was Elder Ting. Elder Ting was a Golden Core Realm cultivator and one of the five greatest physicians in the Rising Wave Sect.

His knowledge and abilities in medicine were far superior to Old Won’s, and the medical techniques he possessed were on an entirely different level. He calmly stepped forward and placed one hand against Shi Mo’s chest.

No one needed to explain anything to him. Through nothing but his immense experience, medical knowledge, and sheer insight, the moment his senses entered Shi Mo’s body, Elder Ting was already able to understand what had happened. The kid had done something crazy.

He had shattered one of his refined Qi Beads to fuel his final attack against Li Yu. What Elder Ting needed to know now was just how much damage Shi Mo had caused to himself.

However, when Elder Ting finally saw the condition of Shi Mo’s body, he was stunned. His eyes changed ever so slightly from their usual calm appearance. To most people, his expression remained completely unchanged.

He still looked calm and composed, and there was no obvious sign that anything had shocked him. But he was stunned. The referee and Old Won, who were standing beside him, noticed the small change in his expression. They immediately understood.

The kid might be much closer to death than I initially predicted, Old Won thought. For the first time, genuine worry appeared within his heart. After all, for someone like Elder Ting to be taken aback, even if it was only slightly, meant that Shi Mo’s life was in serious danger. Yet he would not die.

At least, that was what Old Won believed. Elder Ting was not merely an immensely powerful cultivator. He was also the most skilled physician in the entire Rising Wave Sect.

His medical abilities were extraordinary. His knowledge of cultivation injuries was unmatched. So yes... He would surely be able to cure Shi Mo. Only Elder Ting could save him now.

Meanwhile, the reason Elder Ting had been stunned was because of what he had discovered inside Shi Mo’s Dantian.

A violent current of Qi was raging wildly within it. The violent Qi surged through his Dantian like a destructive storm, constantly crashing against the remaining refined Qi Beads and threatening to consume them one after another.

If the violent Qi managed to destroy the rest of Shi Mo’s Qi Beads, he would regress completely. He would become nothing more than a mortal again. Well... That would actually be the best possible outcome if the violent Qi current could somehow be removed before it caused even greater damage.

There was another possibility. A far worse one. And it could not even truly be called the worst-case scenario because, if Elder Ting had not been present, it was almost certain to happen. Shi Mo would become a cripple.

His cultivation would be destroyed, his body would suffer permanent damage, and he would be forced to spend the rest of his life living in unbearable pain.

Out of the ten refined Qi Beads Shi Mo originally possessed, he had shattered one. He had used the enormous amount of Qi released from its destruction to unleash his final attack against Li Yu. Elder Ting slowly shook his head.

This was the mistake most cultivators made whenever they believed that shattering a Qi Bead would help them without creating consequences. They believed the only drawback was that they would regress to a lower cultivation stage because one of their Qi Beads had disappeared. No. That was not all.

Far from it. Breaking apart a Qi Bead released an incredibly violent tremor and a destructive force that was extremely difficult to contain. Perhaps Shi Mo would have been able to control the violent tremor and prevent it from damaging his remaining Qi Beads... That was, if he had been in good condition when he made the decision.

But Shi Mo’s condition at the time had been far worse than terrible. He had already been completely crushed. His bones had been broken. His body had been battered beyond recognition. His internal organs had suffered tremendous damage, and he had already been standing at the very edge of death.

Then, while in that terrible state, he shattered one of his refined Qi Beads. Because his body had already reached its limit, Shi Mo had been unable to properly control or nullify the violent force released from the shattered Qi Bead.

The destructive tremor immediately spread through his Dantian. It struck the nearest refined Qi Bead. And that Qi Bead began to crack. Then, the violent Qi current created by the damaged Qi Bead surged outward and struck the next one.

The damage continued to spread. One Qi Bead after another was beginning to suffer under the violent force. And if the chain reaction was not stopped soon... Shi Mo would lose far more than a single Qi Bead.

Out of all the eight remaining Qi Beads that Shi Mo was supposed to have after shattering his ninth one, only three were left... or rather, only two.

The third was quickly being destroyed and consumed beneath the violent Qi current that, at this stage, had become overwhelming and utterly violent in its rampage. It threatened to consume the remaining two refined Qi Beads after devouring the third. If it managed to do that... Then it was over for Shi Mo.

He should thank his luck that Elder Ting was here. Not even a powerful Bronze Core cultivator like Old Won could bypass the natural barrier and restrain all this violent Qi current quickly enough to save his life. But someone like Elder Ting... Now that was a completely different story altogether.

With a calm breath, Elder Ting formed several hand signs, and his palm started to glow with a faint white light. He focused his energy on Shi Mo, facing him with his open palm as a small mark formed beneath Shi Mo’s chest, directly above where his Dantian was located. "Gather."

Elder Ting spoke calmly, as if his words alone were enough to remove the violent Qi current. Must be delusional, right? And guess what? That was exactly what happened next.

The small white dot that had appeared on Shi Mo’s abdomen suddenly enlarged like a black hole... Although this one was white.

And instead of sucking in everything around it, the overwhelming Qi that would have surely and certainly ended Shi Mo’s life began to surge upward as if they were tiny needles being attracted by the powerful force of a super magnet.

They showed no resistance whatsoever. In no time at all, all the Qi currents that had been like a raging tide... like hungry beasts that wanted nothing but destruction... suddenly seemed to become docile and gentle, like obedient children.

The surging Qi current floated upward and gathered above Elder Ting’s open palm. It remained there calmly for a few seconds before Elder Ting slowly closed his hand. The surging Qi currents compressed. They compressed... And compressed... And compressed... Until they became nothing more than the size of a small bead.

Elder Ting’s hand stopped glowing, and he looked at the small Qi bead containing the essence of more than six refined Qi Beads with a calm gaze. Old Won and the ref, who had witnessed all of this, both heaved sighs of relief internally.

After all, the Rising Wave Sect might be powerful enough that no one would dare openly speak against them, but if they were unable to save one of the youngsters participating in the tournament, their dignity would surely be bruised.

And right now... If Elder Ting had not been here, the large kid would have surely died. He had simply been too far gone already. What Elder Ting had done was not a small matter at all. Higher cultivation or not, it was not easy to take control of another person’s spirit flow.

That was the flow of Qi around their Dantian. There was a natural barrier that the world itself had created to guard every person’s Dantian. Of course, it could still be broken through an immensely powerful attack. That was why many people had their Dantians damaged during battle and were left unable to cultivate ever again.

It could also be accessed by someone from a higher realm, just as Elder Ting had done. But first... The natural barrier had to be broken. If someone powerful (for example sir won) attempted to forcefully break through it, it would take at least five minutes to completely shatter the natural barrier.

And by then... Well, let’s just say Shi Mo would have already reached the other world. But Elder Ting shattered it in barely a second before gathering and condensing all the violent Qi currents in the very next second... As if it were nothing.

But then again... The gap between the Bronze Core Realm and the Golden Core Realm was immeasurable. So vast that it would make more sense not to compare the two realms at all.

While Old Won and the referee were once again in awe of just how freakishly powerful a Golden Core Realm cultivator was, they were reminded that there was still a realm out there capable of taking them down with a single attack.

Their heads straightened as their resolve burned fiercely. They needed to reach that realm as well. Elder Ting’s thoughts, however, were far different from those of the two men. Instead, he was feeling slightly annoyed that Shi Mo had made such a stupid and terrible mistake.

He looked back at Shi Mo, who was now radiating the cultivation of a Second Stage Qi Refining Realm cultivator, and released a sigh. That was not strange at all.

Far from it, even. After all, now that he only had two refined Qi Beads left, he would naturally only be at the Second Stage of the Qi Refining Realm instead of the Ninth Stage. Elder Ting shook his head once more.

Well, this was still for the best. Perhaps if he had helped him sooner, then he would have been able to save more of his Qi Beads. But alas, this was still far better than Shi Mo losing his life. After all, if he had died, then Elder Ting would have felt pain. A lot of pain.

A talent like Shi Mo, someone who possessed a rare and unique mutated Qi, was not someone that could be found easily. And it was not just any mutated Qi either. It was Gravity Qi.

The number of people capable of awakening such a Qi in the entirety of the Lykana Continent could be counted. That alone showed just how rare it truly was. Losing a potential talent like that would definitely hurt.

Another thing that made Elder Ting feel that this situation was extremely unfortunate was the fact that if Shi Mo had been well and sturdy, then he could have salvaged the Qi and created his refined Qi Beads once more from the violent Qi current.

Of course, that would have been impossible on almost every other occasion. But Shi Mo had the support of Elder Ting, and that was more than enough to make something that seemed impossible become possible.

With Elder Ting guiding and helping him, the kid could have surely and definitely suppressed the violent Qi current and used it to form his Qi Beads once again. But that was far from happening now.

Not only was the kid’s body messed up beyond words, but he was also unconscious. There was no way he would be capable of doing what Elder Ting had been thinking about. And now, even if he were awakened and completely healthy, it would still have been a big no.

Elder Ting looked at the white bead containing the essence of six refined Qi Beads and shook his head once more. Now that the Qi was outside Shi Mo’s body and his cultivation had fallen back to the Second Stage, the only way for the kid to rise once again was to cultivate from the beginning.

And for a while, that would not even be possible. After all, his Qi pathways had been hurt and heavily stressed due to everything that had happened. It would take him quite some time before he could begin his cultivation journey once more. From an inch away from the peak... Back to the early stages.

Elder Ting shook his head. This time, he truly pitied Shi Mo. The kid had taken a risky step. Something that he knew would place his life in danger. He knew that he might even lose his life right there and then, yet he had still done it anyway.

He had taken every single risk. All for what? To take down a single man. Elder Ting slowly turned his attention toward Liyu, who was standing some distance away with a warm smile on his face as he casually waved at the crowd.

He looked completely fine. He even looked relaxed. Elder Ting shook his head again, and this time, the pity he felt for Shi Mo somehow became even greater. If that made any sense. Sincerely, he did not know how Shi Mo was going to feel if he were awake enough to see this.

He had almost sacrificed his life just to take Liyu out. He had shattered one of his refined Qi Beads, risked destroying his entire cultivation, and nearly died just to defeat that single person.

Yet that same Liyu was standing there looking as if he had simply gone out for a picnic and returned. Not a single trace of exhaustion could be seen on his face. He was smiling. Waving. Looking completely calm and composed. As if the terrifying battle from before had been nothing more than a small and ordinary inconvenience.

Elder Ting shook his head. If Shi Mo saw this, then he was certain that the kid would definitely suffer a mental, physical, and soul-level breakdown. A total breakdown.
