Chapter 154

Liyu repeatedly threw his punches over and over again right onto Guan Haoran’s body, and with every passing second, his rating of the guy’s freakish nature rose higher and higher. Still. It was crazy, to say the least.

Liyu had, of course, been able to tell from the very start that the guy would be trouble. He had also heard from Li Xie about his rather impressive defense, one that was said to be unbreakable. Liyu believed he could gauge that defense using his slaps.

That was why he had struck with them first. But after seeing that his slaps were not working, he switched to his punches, which carried more weight and destructive force when compared to his slaps.

Yet once again, they did not seem to be having much of a lasting effect on Haoran. The large guy was able to take them all while his hands remained crossed over his chest. His posture was still relaxed, and his demeanor remained calm and composed.

He looked casual. Almost bored. And that only caused Liyu’s interest in the guy to grow and reach another whole level entirely. Who knew? Maybe his bones would be more worth breaking compared to Shi Mo’s.

Come to think of it, Liyu had been unable to break Shi Mo’s bones due to the fact that he had taken things too far at the end. Instead of Liyu breaking Shi Mo’s bones, Shi Mo had almost broken Liyu’s bones.

But now, he had found another worthy opponent whose bones would be totally worth breaking. Liyu was still amidst that train of thought when he suddenly felt his punch being grabbed.

His attention quickly returned to what was happening. He saw that Haoran had grabbed his fist. The large guy spoke, sounding rather bored. "If this is truly your best now, then I guess I have hoped too much."

He paused for a moment before continuing. "This is too weak and pathetic to hurt me." His metallic gaze remained calm. "You are too weak."

With that, he pulled Liyu forward. Liyu being Liyu, he immediately tried to resist and pull the guy off balance. After all, he also possessed an insane level of strength.

If Guan Haoran thought he could pull him around like some frail and weakling, then the guy must be dreaming. Or so Liyu thought. He tried to pull his arm away. That was when he realized something deeply unsettling.

The force behind the man’s grip was heavy and strong. No. It was too strong. So strong that Liyu was dragged forward despite his resistance. He was unable to pull away like he had first planned.

His face was being dragged directly toward Haoran’s waiting fist. Liyu’s eyes widened slightly. He managed to shift his head sideways at the last moment, allowing the metallic fist to slam into the side of his cheek instead of meeting his face head-on.

BAM! The moment the fist collided with him, Liyu felt his head rattle violently. Pain. Deep pain. It was almost as if he had been slammed into by an evil trunk of some sort that held a personal grudge against him.

His feet left the ground as he was sent flying. Liyu slammed hard onto the ground and rolled several times across the white marble stage before finally coming to a halt. For a few seconds, he remained there. Then Liyu slowly rose to his feet.

And that was when he felt it. His mouth felt wet. Liyu raised the back of his hand and wiped his mouth. When he looked down at the hand that had wiped it, he could see it clearly. There was blood on it. Liyu’s gaze did not darken.

He did not even seem angry or scared. If anything, he looked even more amused. This Guan Haoran guy had truly caught Liyu’s interest. It seemed he was stronger than him. Liyu admitted that fact within his heart. Yet he was not shocked by it.

A super genius at the very peak of the Qi Refining Realm being stronger than him, a cultivator at the first stage of the Qi Gathering Realm, was more than normal.

That was how things were supposed to be. Or maybe not. Sincerely, Liyu was not even supposed to be crossing blows with someone like Haoran and the rest.

They were far above him in terms of cultivation level and overall strength. And yet, he had crossed blows with them. Not only had he crossed blows with them, but he had also managed to beat every one of them to the edge of death. That alone was the peak of anomaly.

But finally... Here was someone who seemed to possess the strength to boast for his stage. Someone who could truly stand at the peak of the Qi Refining Realm and back up every bit of his confidence.

Liyu stared at the blood on the back of his hand for a moment before slowly wiping it away. A small grin appeared on his face. "So, you are stronger than me."

He spoke calmly, almost as if he had just discovered something interesting rather than being sent flying across the stage. His dark eyes slowly rose and locked onto Guan Haoran. "But that only makes things more interesting."

Liyu’s grin widened. "Let’s see how long that confidence of yours lasts." The pain he felt was real, and he was going to multiply it for Guan Haoran three times more. Liyu looked at his hands. He closed and unclenched them a few times, almost as if he were getting a feel for his strength.

It was clear that he couldn’t match or even hurt Haoran with his base strength, so what he needed to do was become far stronger. And it had to happen now. That sounded stupid, didn’t it?

Anyone here hearing Liyu’s train of thought would have believed that as well. But they would be mistaken to take his words as the rambling of an idiot. After all, Liyu was far from being one.

I guess I should really stop holding back now, Liyu thought. And then he took the next step toward getting serious. Soon, a familiar ding echoed within his mind as he gave the command.

[Ding!]

[Primal Qi has been activated.]

[All physical stats have been amplified fourfold.]

Liyu felt a surge of intoxicating power well up from deep within him before spreading through every fiber of his being. He stared down at his hands. He could hardly get used to this feeling.

The overwhelming power filling his body was simply too intoxicating. Liyu slowly closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. Now this is better, he thought. Then he took a low stance as if he were preparing to sprint.

Several meters away, Guan Haoran, who had been watching him calmly, raised an eyebrow. Hadn’t Liyu seen it for himself? Hadn’t he realized that he couldn’t hurt him no matter how much he tried?

He was simply too weak to wound him. Liyu didn’t seem like the proud and stupid type. No... Haoran took that back. He was surely proud, but he wasn’t stupid. So what was he planning now?

Guan Haoran wondered as he raised an eyebrow, wanting to see what Liyu intended to do next. Meanwhile, Liyu remained in his sprinting position.

Seeing the cocky and calm expression on Guan Haoran’s face, he couldn’t help but feel a small sense of joyful glee as he imagined what the guy would be feeling soon enough. Liyu exhaled. Then... WHOOSH! BAM!

Guan Haoran didn’t even get the chance to register what had hit him before his entire body shot across the battle stage. He slammed hard into one of the towering pillars at the side with a deafening bang.

The very air seemed to compress tightly before a loud, rumbling explosion echoed throughout the arena. Guan Haoran’s body crashed into the pillar with tremendous force, and several cracks immediately spread across the surface of the towering structure.

The crowd, who had been murmuring and chatting in disbelief about Guan Haoran’s seemingly impossible defense, suddenly fell silent in unison. Their faces widened as if they had witnessed something terrifying.

Their eyes were filled with shock, awe, and excitement. And the reason for that was simple. Liyu was standing there with his fist still outstretched.

Meanwhile, Guan Haoran, who had seemed to be the one dominating the battle just moments ago, had been sent flying and crashed hard into one of the massive pillars.

"Did you see that?" someone asked, nudging the friend beside him. The latter slowly shook his head. "I wasn’t able to see it... but I can clearly see what happened. Or rather, it’s pretty obvious."

"The Honored One has decided to make his comeback, hasn’t he?" "Yeah, I think so as well." "It’s as we believed. He refuses to stay down for long." The two nodded in unison.

They hadn’t been able to see what had happened or how it had happened. Sincerely, they weren’t the only ones. Almost everyone in the massive colosseum had been unable to follow Liyu’s movement.

What they had been able to see... or rather, hear. . was a loud bang. It was the sound of Guan Haoran crashing hard into the towering pillar.

Then came an even bigger bang that seemed to have echoed a moment later. It was the sound produced by Liyu’s attack. An attack that rang throughout the arena as loudly as a thunderclap. The destructive force behind it could only be imagined.

"See! I told you he was going to make a comeback!" Someone from the crowd shouted like a lunatic. Tears streamed down his face as his eyes became wet while he looked at Liyu as if the young man were his personal savior.

How could he not be? The guy had won the last round of betting because he had placed his bet on Liyu. He had earned a good amount of money, and in his blind hope of recovering everything he had lost before, he decided to bet on Liyu once again.

For some reason, seeing Liyu constantly do crazy and impossible things gave him hope.

Hope that Liyu was bound to defeat the Iron Behemoth, even if everyone around him had completely different thoughts. So, let’s just say that he needed Liyu to win.

No. Liyu had to win, or else he didn’t know if he could handle the heartbreak that would come from losing his entire fortune. And so, just as many would have imagined, seeing Liyu struggle against Guan Haoran and remain unable to land even a single effective attack made the man feel as if he was drowning.

The worst-case scenario kept replaying inside his head over and over again. Liyu losing. His money disappearing. His entire fortune being wiped away.

He didn’t even know when the tears had started falling from his eyes as he watched Liyu struggle in vain against Guan Haoran. The tears tripled when Liyu was punched and started bleeding.

The man’s hope continued to dwindle, reducing from a raging inferno to a small candle that seemed to be reaching the end of its lifespan. Seeing his final hope slowly fading away, the man did something he rarely ever did. He prayed to the immortals.

He prayed for them to let Liyu win this bet, and in exchange, he would stop gambling altogether. And it seemed that they had answered his prayers.

He didn’t know how. But when he raised his head, he heard the loud BANG! Looking upward, his eyes widened in shock as he saw Guan Haoran being knocked far away like a cannonball. Then he looked toward Liyu, the one responsible for it all.

Seeing that Liyu had seemingly accomplished such an unbelievable feat with nothing more than a single punch, the man’s entire body trembled. "He is really awesome, isn’t he?!" the man shouted as he cheered for Liyu from the bottom of his heart.

Liyu had to win. He needed to win!

While the crowd was still startled by the sudden change and slowly coming to the realization of what had just happened, the cheers finally broke loose. "Honored One!" "Honored One!" "Honored One!" "Honored One!"

Over and over again, Liyu’s name was chanted throughout the massive colosseum. Liyu stood at the center of the stage in a cool punching pose. A small smile appeared on his face as he wondered if he had perhaps punched the man a little too hard.

After all, the poor dude wasn’t getting up again. At the seat of the leaders, Guan Ju’s gaze couldn’t help but darken when he saw the scene before him. "That freak... Did he just become stronger like that?"

"And by such a massive margin as well?" "That kid isn’t human. He can’t be. There is no way he is human." Guan Ju’s eyes were wide with concealed panic.

He didn’t show it outwardly, but he was far more afraid now. Liyu had been weaker than Guan Haoran only a few seconds ago. Then, as if he had simply decided that he wanted to become stronger, it happened.

He was stronger the very next moment. "That kid... Just how the hell is he doing all of this?" The question rang violently inside Guan Ju’s head, making him feel as if he was starting to develop a migraine.

Meanwhile, back on the stage... Guan Haoran’s body was slumped against the massive pillar. He hadn’t moved for a while. Soon, however, his hand trembled slightly before slowly clenching into a fist.

Then, if one looked closely, they would see a small smile appearing on Guan Haoran’s face. "Finally..." "A worthy opponent."
