Chapter 2261 - 2256: Counselor of Surrender
"For Commander Wang."
Zeng Qiang frowned. He wanted to view the Jade Scroll but found that a Formation had been placed upon it.
"Honored Vanguard, what’s written in the Jade Scroll?"
The Skeletal Overseer couldn’t wait to ask.
Ever since that falling out, the Skeletal Overseer no longer directly addressed Zeng Qiang by name, instead opting to call him Honored Vanguard.
Zeng Qiang knew this was the Skeletal Overseer’s way of emphasizing their relationship, as it appeared more formal this way.
Previously, during their conversations, they mostly used each other’s names because the Skeletal Overseer believed the Zeng brothers were like him, people of the West Desolation’s old demon.
Zeng Qiang glanced at the Jade Scroll and said, "This is confidential; you don’t need to know. Second brother, bring it to the commander. We’ll set up camp here."
"Got it, big brother."
Zeng Meng replied as he picked up the Jade Scroll.
The Skeletal Overseer snorted as he sat on his Iron Hoof Beast, turned his horse’s head, and returned to his previous position.
The surrounding generals who followed the Zeng brothers burst into laughter.
Though Guo Cunhou was appointed as the logistic overseer, he held no real power.
Those generals on good terms with him were all siding with Wang Buqun, who was taking advantage of his absence to win them over.
Perhaps once Wang Buqun had secured their allegiance, Guo Cunhou would no longer be necessary.
Lying on the wooden bed, he slowly closed his eyes. Guo Cunhou knew if he wanted to escape, this might be the best opportunity.
"Master, it’s time for dinner."
A woman’s voice came from outside the tent.
Guo Cunhou’s eyebrows raised. Women were not allowed in the army. This was a rule he had set back in the day. There used to be a women’s military camp, but for special reasons, it was disbanded later.
"I don’t know which friend is visiting. Come in, there’s no one else in the tent besides me."
Guo Cunhou sat up, his gaze fixed on the entrance of the tent.
"Hehehe, Xiao Guo, you’re not bad. You humans, after all, have the capabilities to rule this world. We of the Fox Demon Clan often find it much harder to gain Spiritual Wisdom and strategize."
Hu Sanqiu lifted the tent flap and walked in.
No smile appeared on Guo Cunhou’s face. If Hu Sanqiu could easily arrive here, it meant she could easily kill him, too.
Guo Cunhou was not without strategy. His main concern was survival.
After all, with his wife bearing his child, even if he didn’t serve as Commander of West Desolation City, with his and his wife’s abilities, they could still find a quiet place to spend the rest of their lives.
Unfortunately, Wang Buqun wasn’t planning to give him that chance, constantly scheming how he could escape, considering he had already arranged a way out for his wife.
"Even if strategy is useful, in the face of immense power, it’s just some useless drivel. Senior Sanqiu, I’m no longer the strategist that holds military power. Since you’ve come, you must be aware of my situation."
Guo Cunhou chuckled self-deprecatingly.
Hu Sanqiu nodded: "That’s right, I know all about your situation. But you’ve misunderstood one thing: I’m not here to kill you, but to rescue you from here."
"Rescue me? You want to win me over."
With sharp insight, Guo Cunhou discerned Hu Sanqiu’s intent the moment he appeared in the tent.
"Indeed. Actually, I’ve long wanted to win you over, but back then, the Fox Spirit Mountain Range had no ambition to dominate. I’ve schemed for a very long time, but there seemed to be no opportunity to win you over. Now the opportunity has arrived, hasn’t it?"
Hu Sanqiu smiled at Guo Cunhou.
Guo Cunhou closed his eyes, sighed deeply, and said: "Senior Sanqiu, do it, I won’t go back with you. I must repay the old commander’s kindness; he wanted me to guard West Desolation City. He fell in West Desolation, I cannot betray the city."
"You’re mistaken, Guo Cunhou. He didn’t want you to guard West Desolation City, but West Desolation itself. The enemy here is the Demon Abyss and its Demons. Do you think, with the current internal strife and interwoven powers in West Desolation City, they can handle the Demons?"
Hu Sanqiu snorted and asked.
Guo Cunhou sneered coldly: "If West Desolation City can’t deal with it, do you think the Fox Spirit Mountain Range can?"
"At least we are united, and with Tang Ming, West Continent City can rise again. With West Continent City’s Formation, the Niu Family, Fox Spirit Mountain Range, and the Demon Slayer Clan, why do you think we can’t handle those Demons? Don’t forget who sealed the Demon Eye back then."
Hu Sanqiu’s lips curled slightly.
Guo Cunhou fell silent, sighed deeply, and said: "Everyone has their choice, Senior Sanqiu. I cannot betray West Desolation City."
"You’re indeed stubborn, then take a look at this."
A Red Ling Sword appeared in Hu Sanqiu’s hand.
Guo Cunhou’s face changed drastically as he stepped forward and grabbed the hand Hu Sanqiu held the sword with: "Hu Sanqiu, you’ve captured Meijuan."
"Yes, He Meijuan and her unborn child are at Fox Spirit Mountain. Now, what do you say, Guo Cunhou?"
Hu Sanqiu smiled calmly at Guo Cunhou.
Guo Cunhou took a deep breath: "Fine, I will go with you to the Fox Spirit Mountain Range."
"No, merely going with us isn’t our main goal. On this trip to West Desolation City, we’re taking not only your wife but also the families of some generals and soldiers. They have all gone to the Fox Spirit Mountain Range."
Hu Sanqiu looked at Guo Cunhou, who was completely stunned.
He had no idea how Hu Sanqiu managed such a feat; it involved most of the population in West Desolation City’s North District.
Since those people were on good terms with him, they lived quite closely together.
Guo Cunhou, fearing the worst, had asked his wife to inform their family members to flee promptly.
This was why Guo Cunhou insisted those generals and soldiers return home at night before heading to battle the next day.
"I understand your intention. Don’t worry, I’ll write to them immediately."
Upon discovering He Meijuan was at the Fox Spirit Mountain Range, Guo Cunhou had to acquiesce. After all, his wife was the most important to him.
Zeng Meng went to the rear of the convoy and met with Wang Buqun. Wang Buqun greeted him at the tent’s entrance with a broad smile: "What’s wrong, Brother Zeng? Has the Vanguard Camp encountered a problem?"
