Chapter 460 - 432: Exploring the Underground
"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK~"
The Ant Queen, carried in by the Fishmen, lay on the ground in Home. It looked pitiful and let out a weak sound. Its upper body had the form of an Ant-man, while its lower half was a fat, plump white body, much like a greatly magnified white worm.
Its appearance was truly hard to describe.
Qin Ziwu turned to his big brother. "Big Bro, what’s with all its gibberish? Is it in heat or something?"
Jia Liangcai gently plucked a whisker from his chin, the pain making the corner of his eye twitch slightly. A trace of clarity appeared in his eyes. "There’s something strange about this sound."
Du Yu stepped forward and landed a high kick on the Ant Queen’s abdomen. "Vile creature, cease your bewitching!"
That one kick nearly knocked the bile out of the Ant Queen.
The Ant Queen’s cries stopped abruptly.
The room instantly fell silent.
The Ant Queen obediently quieted down and lay prostrate, looking aggrievedly at Du Yu.
It was just scared and had subconsciously been trying to seek more protection.
It never expected this human to just charge over and kick it.
Now its stomach still hurt.
But it didn’t dare make any more random noises.
Qin Ziwen said to the old man behind him, "Old Lei, have a good chat with it. Ask if it knows anything about the Gray Race ruins."
Lei Wenbo straightened the hem of his clothes, took a small notebook from his pocket, and turned to the Ant Queen. He then spoke in crisp, clear Insect Man language: "Hello, we need to have a conversation..."
...
"President, this is everything it knows." Lei Wenbo presented the notebook in his hand to Qin Ziwen.
Qin Ziwen took the notebook, muttering to himself, "So it’s actually here."
He had heard Lei Wenbo’s entire exchange with the Ant Queen with perfect clarity.
This Ant Queen was not old, only thirty-seven.
In the lifespan of the Ant Queen’s species, this was considered young.
After the previous Ant Queen died, this one inherited all of its predecessor’s legacy, including a portion of memories from its bloodline.
And it just so happened that this portion of memory included information about the Gray Race.
After the city built by the Gray Race collapsed, the Insect Men had tried to dig tunnels to get inside. However, according to the inherited memories, the ruins of the Gray Race’s city contained a curse, and basically all the Insect Men who set foot in that area died.
Over time, that area became a forbidden land for the Insect Men. When they dug and tunneled underground, they would consciously avoid that region.
That area was directly beneath the very cave where the Qin Alliance had discovered the Giant Aphid Rhinoceros Beetles!
It was less than a thousand meters from the Gated Community’s location.
In this intricate and complex subterranean world, that was incredibly close.
"Big Bro, now that it mentions it, I think I also felt that place was a bit different from the other caves," Qin Ziwu suddenly spoke up.
"How is it different?" Qin Ziwen asked curiously. Since crossing over to this underground cave map, he had spent most of his time in Home and rarely went out.
For one thing, the underground caves were pitch-black, and there was nothing much to see.
For another, he was the indispensable core of the Gated Community. Anyone else in the Gated Community could be sacrificed, but if something were to happen to him, the Gated Community would, so to speak, regress to a primitive state.
Because of his importance, any rational person would advise him not to run around recklessly and to just stay in Home to be revered like a mascot.
"The temperature inside that cave is higher than in the other caves!" Qin Ziwu answered without hesitation.
"I’ve explored a lot of the caves and tunnels around the Gated Community. To be honest, most places in this underground world aren’t very warm—they’re on the colder side. The guys on patrol outside all wear sweaters or a layer of leather over them to keep warm. But the temperature in that one cave is much higher than anywhere else.
The gathering teams working in there don’t dare wear too many clothes; they’re drenched in sweat after just a short while."
Hearing his younger brother say this, Qin Ziwen recalled something. He had been there before and remembered that it was a bit warmer inside than outside.
At the time, he had thought it was because of the plants.
He had assumed it was a common phenomenon, but it turned out to be a special case.
Lei Wenbo said, "President, the Ant Queen says the Gray Race were skilled at forging, so their choice of city location might have been deliberate."
Qin Ziwen was lost in thought. "It’s possible. Since they explored it back then, there should still be an underground passage. Let’s have it lead the way. Little Bro, go and give the notice. The risks of this operation are unknown, so we need to select a team of elites."
Qin Ziwu hurriedly said, "Bro, you can’t go. The danger there is unknown. No one’s sure yet if the curse only targets the Exotic Races that besieged the Gray Race back then. What if it’s indiscriminate and targets everyone? It could be dangerous..."
Qin Ziwen glanced at him. "And it’s not dangerous for you to go? If I go, I can open a Node at any time for everyone to escape. If it’s just you guys and you really run into something, you won’t even have time to run."
Qin Ziwu still wanted to say something.
Qin Ziwen cut him off with a wave of his hand. "Alright, stop your yapping. We can talk after you can take two of my punches."
Qin Ziwu’s mouth snapped shut.
’Taking two punches from Big Bro... that might be a bit difficult.’
Although Black hadn’t broken through to the Extraordinary realm, its size was becoming increasingly exaggerated. Nourished by its daily ration of canned food, Black’s body grew ever more massive as it hurtled toward its physical limits.
And Qin Ziwen had inherited all of Black’s Divine Power. Most importantly, all of Black’s strength was perfectly integrated into his own body, which was countless times smaller. His muscle density and explosive power were simply astonishing.
In terms of physical prowess, he was not Extraordinary, but he surpassed it.
...
Upon learning that these humans were going to the Gray Race ruins, the Ant Queen wanted to dissuade them.
According to its inherited memories, it was extremely dangerous inside. It didn’t understand why humans would want to go to a dangerous place.
But not only was its attempt at dissuasion ineffective, it even had to accompany them and lead the way.
The Ant Queen’s expression was listless upon hearing the result, but when you’re an ant under someone’s roof, you have to bow your head.
"Ooh, what a big Ant Queen." Pangding had heard that an Ant Queen was captured and came rushing over. It took an instant liking to the plump and cute Ant Queen.
Pangding walked over to the Ant Queen’s side. The Ant Queen raised its head and looked at Pangding, a flicker of confusion in its eyes.
Through pheromones, it could sense that the one before it should also be an Insect Man, but it was a new species it had never seen before.
Pangding reached out its hands and placed them at the base of the Ant Queen’s antennae.
The Ant Queen only felt a tingling numbness spread across its head and almost cried out.
But it remembered the earlier kick and held it in.
"I can tell you’re under a lot of stress. You must be very tired usually."
Pangding gently massaged the Ant Queen’s antennae, its voice soft. It could feel that the Ant Queen’s head was very tense—a sign of years of accumulated stress.
Normally, the carapace around the base of an Ant Queen’s antennae should be relatively soft.
"Squeak..." The Ant Queen closed its eyes. For some reason, it felt a little relaxed in front of this little thing.
Moreover, the pheromones emanating from the other being smelled pleasant—mellow and rich, like the scent of the old Ant Queen.
