My Crazy Upgrade System

A high Sin Value was a total hate magnet, effective against humans and Demon Beasts alike. Anything with hostile intent would prioritize attacking him.

For example, if two people hurled the exact same insult, he would undoubtedly be the one to get hit first. This was all because his Sin Value was too high; it drew aggro way too intensely.

There was only one solution: spend the Sin Value. It was the simplest, most direct method. But he couldn’t bear to do that. He was determined to save up enough to buy a brand new, million-point tier set.

In this state, Yi Tianyun’s aggro-drawing effect would only grow stronger, and right now, it was on full display. Wherever there was danger, he was guaranteed to be involved.

If his power level were any lower, he would definitely be the first to die. But there was nothing to be done. To afford a high-grade Sin Set, he just had to tough it out.

"Yi, we can handle them too. You don’t have to take them all on by yourself!" They watched Yi Tianyun with concern. Even though the Netherwater Insects were fast, they were still capable of fending them off.

"Exactly! I know you’re powerful, but taking everything on yourself... aren’t you looking down on us? We came prepared. If we can’t even handle these little bugs, how are we supposed to survive in the Netherworld?" Yang Zhiwen was getting a bit angry. Having Yi Tianyun’s help was one thing, but having him do *everything* made them feel deeply indebted and a bit useless.

"That’s right. I’m angry too!" Leng Hu’s expression darkened, clearly displeased as well.

Yi Tianyun felt helpless. He had just made up a casual excuse. ’It’s not like I’m doing this on purpose. My Sin Value is just too high, I can’t help it.’

"I know what you’re capable of, but since you’re guiding us this time, I’ll help fend off the Demon Beasts. We can just call it a normal division of labor, right?" Yi Tianyun said. "Besides, now isn’t the time to discuss this. The priority is getting through here quickly. We can talk about it more after we’re out!"

He quickly changed the subject. The others exchanged a look; for now, they had no choice but to accept it.

They immediately resumed their advance. Yi Tianyun continued to draw all the aggro. Not a single Demon Beast attacked the others; they all targeted Yi Tianyun exclusively, which made his companions feel incredibly guilty. But alongside their guilt, another feeling grew: gratitude.

Yi Tianyun could tell, because he could literally see their Favorability score with him skyrocketing. It looked like it would break 200 soon. ’Adversity reveals true character,’ and it was also the fastest way to raise Favorability.

’This sparked the idea of recruiting them. It would be great if he could get them to join his Celestial Cloud Mansion; he’d instantly gain three new Grand Generals! All three were powerful experts. They were quite skilled for Loose Cultivators. If they were given more resources and access to better Martial Arts, wouldn’t their power soar?’

’But he didn’t say anything for now. He could only wait for the right moment. If an opportunity didn’t present itself, he would just drop the idea.’

As they pushed forward, venturing deeper, the death fog began to thicken, and their expressions changed.

"This is bad! The death fog is starting to gather. Looks like we’ll have to stop here for now." Seeing the situation rapidly deteriorating, Ren Liangchen had no choice but to call a halt.

The death fog gathered faster than it dispersed. One moment it seemed to be just starting to coalesce, and in the blink of an eye, it became incredibly dense. They could barely see the path in front of them. Although they could still move forward, it would be all too easy to get lost if they couldn’t see where they were going.

Their visibility was reduced to less than half a meter. How could they possibly navigate? The best solution was to stay put and wait for the fog to dissipate.

"Looks like we didn’t make it through before the fog closed in. This is the most dangerous time. We can’t see our surroundings at all. We wouldn’t even know if something was ambushing us..."

Their expressions were grim. There was a reason it was called the death fog, and its most terrifying aspect was this: it blocked out all sensation.

It would be one thing if they couldn’t sense anything, but the problem was that the ambushing Demon Beasts *could* perceive their presence. That was what made it so terrifying. Getting lost wasn’t the real danger; you could eventually find your way out by moving slowly. But once the death fog gathered, all that awaited them was the slow approach of death.

The crucial point was that death could be closing in on them, and they wouldn’t even know it! They might only perceive the threat at the very moment of their death...

They drew their weapons and scanned their surroundings vigilantly, but their eyes met only an impenetrable gloom. They couldn’t see a thing. The fear of the unknown began to creep into their hearts, and they didn’t dare utter a single word.

The slightest sound would have them instantly on guard, turning toward its source.

"Do you guys trust me?" Yi Tianyun suddenly asked.

His voice shattered the silence. They all turned to look at him, unsure of what he meant.

"Of course we trust you. Why wouldn’t we? We’ve all seen what you can do, Yi. Who wouldn’t trust you?" Ren Liangchen asked, confused.

"Then give me the map. I’ll lead you out." ’He didn’t mention that he already had a map; that would have been like a slap in the face to them.’

"Lead us out of this dense fog?" They stared at Yi Tianyun in disbelief. ’Even if he’s more powerful, there’s no way he can perceive his surroundings clearly, right?’

"It shouldn’t be a problem. As long as you trust me, I believe I can get us out," Yi Tianyun said with a faint smile, the picture of confidence.

The three of them exchanged glances. After only a moment’s hesitation, Ren Liangchen handed the map to Yi Tianyun.

"You’ve basically saved our lives already. We trust you!" Ren Liangchen said in a grave tone.

Yi Tianyun accepted the map and took the lead. "Thank you for your trust. Don’t worry, I’ll get you out. This isn’t too difficult for me."

As he spoke, he released two Netherwater Insects, sending them to scout the path ahead. The moment his companions saw this, they immediately understood.

"Yi, no wonder you were so confident! You have Netherwater Insects to lead the way... We can’t sense what’s ahead, but the Netherwater Insects can," Ren Liangchen exclaimed in delight. "I was so tense I completely forgot you were a Beast Tamer! With their help, we can get through this death fog, no problem!"

Yang Zhiwen and the others were overjoyed. They really had forgotten about that.

Yi Tianyun just smiled. He had prepared for this in advance, specifically catching some Netherwater Insects to help find the path. As their master, he could easily perceive everything they did and have them navigate for him.

’This was the advantage of being a Beast Tamer. No matter where you went, you could just catch a local creature, and it was like you were in your own backyard. Mazes? They were completely useless against him! Not worth a damn!’

"That’s right. Let’s go. We need to get out of here quickly." Yi Tianyun smiled and quickly led them forward. Of course, along the way, he was still inevitably attacked by Netherwater Insects and other Demon Beasts—they all came straight for him.

He couldn’t detect them from too far away, but he had no problem sensing them at close range. He just had to counterattack the moment they pounced.
