Chapter 515 - 514: The Plan
After Ming Chen and his group left the Phoenix Race, their expressions were terrifyingly grim. The guards following them didn’t dare to ask a single question and simply flew behind them in silence.
"Ming Chen, what are we going to say when we get back?" the man beside him finally asked. He only broke his silence once they were outside.
But when he spoke, his voice was incredibly grating, like a broken gong being struck repeatedly, sounding extremely harsh. His name was Nangong Ming, an expert from the Nangong Family and a loyal subordinate of the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom.
"What is there to say? Could the Phoenix Race have really killed our Evil Spirit Race ancestor? That’s impossible! He was a Saint King, an existence that had reached the point of immortality. How could he possibly die!" Ming Chen was extremely displeased. This was their ancestor. If he was killed, beyond the impact on their plans, the greater tragedy was the death of their ancestor!
Their ancestor’s death meant the loss of a supreme expert. How could they not be in anguish?
"It’s highly likely that the Phoenix Race’s Clan Leader was lying to us. There’s no way our ancestor died so easily," Nangong Ming said in a low voice.
"But what if he really is dead?" Ming Chen turned to his companion and said coldly, "If that’s the case, we will definitely be severely punished by the Celestial Nether Saint Master!"
Nangong Ming fell silent and didn’t speak for a long time. It was indeed a predicament, and an extremely difficult one at that. Neither of them wanted to face the wrath of the Celestial Nether Saint Master. Although their crime wasn’t punishable by death, the penalty would surely be anything but light.
"How could a mere human possibly destroy our ancestor?" Nangong Ming still refused to believe it. How could the ancestor they revered, a legendary supreme expert, just die so easily?
"True or not, we have to go back and discuss this matter. It’s just that things are going to be difficult for us..." Ming Chen frowned.
"And isn’t this all because of you? If you had set a lower price, we probably would have gotten in long ago." Nangong Ming snorted. "And look what happened. A human interfered, and now we’re left with this mess!"
Ming Chen flared up on the spot. "Didn’t you nod and agree at the time? Did you ever try to talk me out of it?"
Nangong Ming didn’t offer a rebuttal, falling silent. He knew he shared the responsibility. They had both believed that only they could solve the problem, and that no human could.
That was why they had hiked up the price, leading to this outcome. It was truly a result of their greed. They wanted to both perfectly resolve the situation and make a fortune in the process. Why wouldn’t they?
Now they had ended up empty-handed, and they still had to face punishment upon their return. It was a true tragedy.
"Alright, what’s done is done. We can only brace ourselves and go back to report. We’ll just have to accept whatever the Celestial Nether Saint Master says," Nangong Ming said, shaking his head. He was just as guilty of greed, so there was no point in assigning blame.
...
Meanwhile, Yi Tianyun’s plans were rapidly set in motion. They didn’t have much time, so they implemented the plans without a moment’s rest. There was more than one plan, but the one concerning the Celestial Nether Altar was especially important.
"This time, we plan to infiltrate the Celestial Nether Altar. As I’ve said before, the Celestial Nether Altar has always been an important location, primarily because it holds a massive amount of resources! It has long served as a resource transport hub for the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom, with shipments always stopping there."
"Therefore, our first priority is to deal with the Celestial Nether Altar and steal all the resources inside. This will allow us to strike a heavy blow against the Celestial Nether Divine Kingdom!"
Bai Shuihuang looked at the three elders before her. They were all old acquaintances: Shopkeeper Ye, Elder Lei, and Elder Luo. They would be the experts taking part in this infiltration mission.
To ensure the mission was stealthy and successful, their cultivation levels had to be high. The altar was guarded by Spirit King Stage experts. If they didn’t send powerful elders, it would be a one-way trip!
"Before that, however, the Divine Envoy has said that he knows the way around inside the Celestial Nether Altar, so I plan to have him accompany you." At this, Bai Shuihuang dropped a bombshell, stunning all of them.
’No wonder Yi Tianyun was standing off to the side. So he was planning to go with them!’
"Is that appropriate? It’s incredibly dangerous there. A single moment of carelessness could mean leaving your life behind... Why not just have him draw a map for us? That would be enough," Shopkeeper Ye spoke up. He wasn’t targeting Yi Tianyun; he was just concerned for his safety.
’He couldn’t let Yi Tianyun die there. If that happened, who would seal the Evil Souls?’
"Don’t worry, I won’t hold any of you back," Yi Tianyun said. "I want to be a part of this. Guiding you in person will be much more flexible than using a map. More importantly, the Celestial Nether Altar is filled with Divine Runes. Do you think you can break them?" Of course Yi Tianyun wanted to go; otherwise, he would miss out on a ton of experience and quests.
The three elders looked at each other. He had a point; they couldn’t break them! Clearly, it wasn’t a matter of having a map or not. Even if a path was laid out for them, the Divine Runes would make it impassable. How could they steal anything then?
"Do you think I haven’t considered that? The Celestial Nether Altar is heavily fortified. If it were so easy to sneak into, plenty of people would have done it by now. So, along the way, you must take good care of the Divine Envoy. There can be absolutely no accidents!" Bai Shuihuang instructed.
"That’s not a problem. But first, we need to see how effective the Divine Envoy’s aura concealment is. If it’s poor, the difficulty of the infiltration will be greatly increased..."
Just then, Yi Tianyun’s figure flickered and vanished completely from their sight, hiding himself nearby. They were instantly stunned. His concealment effect was even better than theirs!
’The crucial part was that he hadn’t used a Divine Skill for Invisibility; he had simply concealed his aura and hidden himself. It was flawless.’
"So, what do you think?" Yi Tianyun reappeared, causing them to gasp. His skill was not just on par with theirs—it was even better!
"As expected of the Divine Envoy. That Concealing Ability is just too powerful..." Their faces twitched. They found Yi Tianyun to be incredible. ’How does he know how to do everything?’
"If there are no other problems, I’ll lay out the plan," Yi Tianyun said suddenly.
Bai Shuihuang was taken aback. She had no idea Yi Tianyun had another plan. She quickly responded, "What plan? Let’s hear it."
"Simply sneaking in to grab the resources is too simple, in my opinion. I’m thinking that after we’ve taken the resources, we should do a big cleanup and wreck the Celestial Nether Altar. It would be a waste to just leave after that." He had no intention of just grabbing the resources and running; that was far too unambitious.
"Absolutely not! That would alert the enemy. If too many experts surround us and we’re forced to use our full power, we could easily expose ourselves! If they suspect the Phoenix Race, we’ll be in serious trouble!" Elder Luo immediately retorted. Although he had a good relationship with Yi Tianyun, he objected for the sake of security; their identities absolutely could not be revealed.
"No, no. It seems you’ve misunderstood something. When the time comes, I’ll be the one doing the destroying. You all will evacuate first, understand?" A cold smile tugged at the corner of Yi Tianyun’s mouth, and from it, they could almost smell the scent of blood!
