Chapter 508 - 507: Searching for an Older Sister
There was barely any discussion. It was essentially a monologue from Bai Shuihuang, who single-handedly finalized the decision to make Yi Tianyun the Divine Envoy. In any other situation, she would have been relentlessly criticized, but Bai Shuihuang had a way with words and settled everything.
All those elders hadn’t come to offer their opinions but simply to hear the announcement. Once it was made, the meeting was essentially over.
With that out of the way, they immediately moved on to discussing how to deal with their enemies. They weren’t safe at all; a great war could break out at any moment. Therefore, they had to devise countermeasures and, more importantly, strengthen the Phoenix Race’s defenses.
The Phoenix Race was facing a joint attack from two great Divine Kingdoms, so strengthening their defenses was imperative. As a Divine Beast Race, their power was indeed formidable, but this was a two-on-one fight—an entirely different ball game.
While they discussed their strategy, Yi Tianyun had already taken Yan’Er outside to wait. These matters were not something he needed to know about. Although he was set to become the Divine Envoy, he wouldn’t be asked to lay down his life for the Phoenix Race, so there was no need for him to remain in the strategy meeting.
Besides, he hadn’t officially become the Divine Envoy yet, so it was better for him to be outside. Once he was, he could choose whether to listen in on such meetings or not.
"Daddy, where are we going to play?" Yan’Er was completely oblivious to the situation. She was too young to possibly understand the details.
"Let’s just take a walk around here." Yi Tianyun held her little hand, strolling beside the nearby phoenix trees. Yan’Er skipped along happily, pulling him with her.
Watching Yan’Er’s joyful antics, he couldn’t help but wonder about his own future children. ’Will they be this happy too?’
They wandered about aimlessly. Yan’Er wasn’t demanding; she was perfectly content running in circles and hugging the phoenix trees. Soon, however, a group of children came running in their direction, their eyes blinking as they spotted Yan’Er.
"Want to come play with us?" one of the children called out.
Yan’Er looked back at them, hesitating.
"Go on, go have fun with them." Yi Tianyun couldn’t help but smile seeing children her age. He had just been wondering where she could find some friends, and now a whole group of them had appeared.
"Okay!" Yan’Er finally ran over to join them.
Yi Tianyun looked up and saw it was Pu Ren who had brought them. Pu Ren watched the children and said, "Don’t run off, no fighting, and play nice!"
Pu Ren watched the children dash away like the wind, a helpless look on his face. When he turned to Yi Tianyun, however, his eyes lit up. He immediately sat down beside him and asked excitedly, "Divine Envoy, how in the world do you control the Immortal Fire? That’s something only the Clan Leader should be able to control!"
"Well... I just kept practicing with it, and eventually I got the hang of it." Yi Tianyun didn’t know how to explain. His Immortal Fire had been a starter gift; who would have guessed it would be so potent and even a top-tier flame?
"’Kept practicing... and got the hang of it...’" Pu Ren was speechless. ’That has to be the lamest explanation ever.’ After a moment’s thought, he said, "Divine Envoy, when you return to the Mortal Realm, can you take me with you?"
Finally, after a few exchanges, he revealed his true purpose.
"Take you to the Mortal Realm? What would you do there?" Yi Tianyun asked, confused. "The environment for cultivation there is far worse than it is here. If you stay and train here, you’ll be able to advance your cultivation much faster."
Pu Ren was so young, yet he was already at the seventh level of the Core Transformation Stage. If he stayed here and cultivated diligently, he could definitely break through to the Void Spirit Stage. If he went to the Mortal Realm, who knew how long it would take him to make another breakthrough.
This time, Pu Ren didn’t answer right away. He was silent for a moment before he said slowly, "I want to find my sister..."
"Your sister? She went to the Mortal Realm?" Yi Tianyun asked, puzzled.
"I don’t know. My sister left home a long time ago. I’ve looked everywhere for her... My master and I searched for a long time without finding a single clue. I just have a feeling she might have gone to the Mortal Realm." To think that beneath Pu Ren’s wild and carefree exterior, he was hiding such a worry.
"How long ago did this happen?" Yi Tianyun asked.
"Just like Ms. Luo, she disappeared over two years ago..." Pu Ren said truthfully.
Yi Tianyun fell silent. He thought it was highly likely that, just like Luo Huang, she had been hunted down and escaped to the Mortal Realm. Or perhaps, she had died in the Netherworld.
"I understand how you feel, but I can’t take you to the Mortal Realm. It’s not even a question of whether I’d agree. First, the elders would never let you go with me. The situation is too dangerous right now, and the Phoenix Race needs your strength. You can’t leave." Yi Tianyun shook his head, refusing him. The Phoenix Race was in a state of emergency; there was no way they would let their people wander off as they pleased.
"But my sister..." Pu Ren gritted his teeth, desperate to find her.
"I’ll keep an eye out for any news. When I go back to the Mortal Realm, I’ll be sure to help you look for your sister," Yi Tianyun promised.
"Really? Then I’m counting on you, Divine Envoy!" Pu Ren was overjoyed. Suddenly remembering something, he quickly took out a small bottle and handed it to Yi Tianyun. "I don’t have much to offer as a reward, so please, take these Elixir Pills!"
The Elixir Pills he was offered were of a high grade; it was a bottle of Void Spirit Pills, perfect for Cultivators at the Void Spirit Stage.
"There’s no need. You should keep these pills for yourself and use them for your cultivation," Yi Tianyun immediately refused. They weren’t particularly useful to him—equivalent to a decent Experience Pill at best.
"Divine Envoy, please, you must take them. Otherwise, I won’t be able to rest easy..." Pu Ren’s gaze was intense. He didn’t have any great Treasures to offer, so Elixir Pills were all he had.
Seeing his determined expression, Yi Tianyun finally had no choice but to accept the bottle of pills. He knew Pu Ren wouldn’t feel right otherwise.
"Alright then, I’ll accept this as payment," Yi Tianyun said with a smile. He could only hope he’d be able to find some information for him.
"DING! Successfully accepted the side quest ’Help Pu Ren find his sister’s whereabouts.’ Completion rewards: 30,000,000 Experience, 100,000 Madness Value, 300 Reputation Points, and the title ’King of Finding People’!"
The sudden quest stunned Yi Tianyun. What really made him unsure whether to laugh or cry was the title. ’There’s a title like "King of Finding People"?’ He had no idea what its effect might be.
He would only find out what the title did after he actually earned it.
They then briefly discussed her distinguishing features, and Pu Ren took out a rolled-up painting. Handing it to Yi Tianyun, he said, "This is a portrait of my sister."
Yi Tianyun took the scroll and slowly unrolled it. The face that appeared was unfamiliar; he was certain he had never seen her before. Besides, if he had, he would have definitely sensed she was a member of the Phoenix Race. No matter how well she concealed her identity, she couldn’t have escaped his Eye of Investigation!
"I’ve got the general picture," Yi Tianyun said with a nod. "But I have no plans to return to the Mortal Realm just yet. When I do go back, I will definitely have my people help you search."
"Thank you so much, Divine Envoy!" Pu Ren said, full of gratitude.
"I’m not even the Divine Envoy yet. It’s a bit premature to keep calling me that, don’t you think?" Yi Tianyun laughed.
"No, I’m sure you’ll pass the trial!" Pu Ren’s eyes were filled with conviction, certain that Yi Tianyun would succeed.
