Chapter 392/The Mask of Friendship Shattered
Chapter 392
Stella’s point of view
Jake let out a heavy sigh, dropping his arms and showing absolutely no desire to fight back or attack. He spoke in a low, exhausted tone, thick with weariness: "Mike... for heaven’s sake, I really don’t want to fight you tonight."
But my brother’s mind had been completely incinerated by bitter jealousy. He lunged to attack again, screaming like a lunatic: "I am going to kill you tonight!"
I threw my body between them, pushing hard against Mike’s chest to hold him back, shrieking in frantic desperation: "Mike! Please, snap out of it!"
He tried to violently shove me aside, roaring: "Stella! Get out of my way right now!"
I planted my feet stubbornly, screaming at the top of my lungs: "I won’t! Let’s just go home... please, Mike!"
Mike stopped struggling, staring at Jake’s face with broken, deeply betrayed eyes. He spoke in a trembling, cracked voice: "I will never forgive you for stabbing me in the back like this, Jake. Never."
We turned around and marched out of the wooden cabin, my heart burning and shredding itself with boundless, venomous hatred. I couldn’t stomach the thought that Jake the man I had given my childhood heart and unrequited love to had actually slept with Julie on that bed. How could she let him touch her like that? How could she sleep with him so cheaply, while he ruthlessly kept me out of his life?
We reached the car, only to find Julie already sitting in the back seat, wrapped in her white sheet with an absolute, chilling calmness looking like an innocent angel who hadn’t just committed a sin in the dark.
I turned to look at Mike, whose features were completely frozen in deep agony. He walked to the back door, opened it, slowly slid off his heavy wool jacket, and gently draped it over Julie’s bare shoulders to shield her from the night chill.
Julie whispered in a dry, low voice: "Thanks, Mike."
Mike climbed behind the wheel, his entire posture rigid, while I slid into the passenger seat beside him, a raging anger boiling in my chest. I turned my entire torso around, locking my eyes onto her cold face, spitting venom: "I asked you before if you had anything going on with Jake... why didn’t you tell me?!"
Julie calmly turned her head, looking out the window with complete indifference as she replied flatly: "Jake and I have nothing between us, Stella."
I curled my lips in disgust, raising my voice: "Are you kidding me?! I saw you two kissing like crazy, and now you just slept together! How do you explain that?!"
Mike slammed his palm against the steering wheel, screaming at me in a fit of rage: "Shut up, Stella! Shut the hell up!"
I snapped back defiantly, shouting in sheer agony: "I won’t shut up! If you desperately want to ignore the bitter truth to protect your pathetic delusion, that’s your problem, dear brother! But this is the bare, ugly truth!"
Julie let out a fake, bored sigh, meeting my gaze with freezing coldness as she stated with finality: "I don’t owe you any explanations, Stella. This is my private life. I sleep with whoever I want, and it is none of your business."
My fingers dug hard into the seat fabric, and I shouted in pure malice: "I don’t want an explanation! But at least tell me the truth! Aren’t we supposed to be close friends?!"
Her eyes met mine, and she spoke in a quiet, undisturbed voice: "Fine... if you are really my friend, you would believe me when I say there is nothing between Jake and me."
I couldn’t believe how easily lies and sheer audacity draped over her features. I mocked bitterly: "Then what the hell were you doing inside that cabin?!"
She shrugged, murmuring: "You mean because he slept with me tonight?"
I nodded with sheer malice: "Yes, exactly!"
She looked away, delivering a cold line that completely crushed my pride: "That’s nothing... it really means nothing to me."
Mike let out a ragged, pain-filled shout to end the nightmare: "Shut up, both of you! Shut up, for heaven’s sake!"
But my rage and madness had crossed every possible boundary. I turned back, throwing my poison directly into her face: "Are you just a cheap whore who sleeps with guys to satisfy her disgusting lust?!"
Mike slammed on the brakes with a sudden, violent force that threw us forward. He glared at me, his eyes bloodshot and wild with rage, screaming: "One more word, Stella... and I will kick you out of this car in the middle of this dark, deserted road right now!"
I was forced into silence, my heart burning with absolute hatred. My stupid brother was completely blinded by love, utterly unable to see the bare truth of how Julie was using his kindness. We finally arrived in front of our house. Mike brought the car to a screeching halt, staring straight ahead as he spat cold words at me: "Get out of the car, Stella. Now."
I stared at him in disbelief and heartbreak: "Am I going in alone?"
He barked coldly: "Get out!"
I threw the door open and stepped out with furious strides. The moment I slammed the door shut, he floored the gas pedal, speeding away like a lunatic and leaving a cloud of dust to hit my face. A savage, venomous hatred ran wild in my veins toward Jake, toward Julie, toward my idiot brother, and toward this entire godforsaken world.
I rapidly pulled my phone out of my pocket, turning it on with fingers shaking with burning wrath. The very second the device caught a signal, I dialed Julie’s father’s number with absolute, ruthless determination. It barely rang twice before his booming, frantic hiss filled the speaker:
"Hello! Tell me where Julie is right now!"
A sinister, dark smile stretched across my face, filling my soul with a twisted joy. I hissed in a low, breathless whisper: "Do you really want to know where your daughter is hiding right now?"
His voice exploded in desperate, violent urgency: "Yes! Tell me quickly!"
I curled my lips in malicious satisfaction: "She is currently... in the village of Bay Shore."
His breath hitched for a fraction of a second, and he demanded in a sharp, suspicious tone: "Are you telling the truth?!"
I replied with absolute, cold confidence: "Yes. Absolutely."
He instantly hung up on me. I slowly lowered the phone from my ear, a wide, wicked smile stretching across my face, gleaming in the darkness with triumphant happiness. Even though I didn’t know what awaited her or what kind of man he was, I would be absolutely thrilled if he was a lunatic who would drag her straight back to the hell she escaped forcing her to drink from the exact same cup of agony she loved to share.
I whispered a low, venomous promise to myself as I took my steps toward the front door: "I will make sure you pay, Julie... I will show you what happens when you dare take what belongs to me."
